Not sure whether to start another thread or not, if this is hijacking the original then the mods can move it. Just read this today, it's worth a read as it speaks to the issue of drugs. What we need also is referenda on important 'social' issues. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/opinion/sorry-to-harsh-your-mellow-california-but/article1759454/ excerpted:

I'm not denying that these issues don't exist, they do with a minority, they even exist outside of the CPC. I'm saying that there is no CPC policy or proposed legislation of moral issues. As far as pot goes I don't think someone with a very small amount on them should be made a criminal, but pot is a drug, it does kill brain cells and certainly there are no reliable tests for driving while drugged. If people are opposed to tougher sentences for drug trafficking too bad, anyone caught trafficking in drugs should be treated harshly. Is the legalizing of drugs, or the abuse of drugs a 'moral' issue, it's a health issue when people become addicted requiring health care, IMO the harm of drugs on society far outweighs any 'benefit' there might be from legalization, which in itself would cause a huge criminal black market. But we are off topic.

Exactly. It was an amendment to existing legislation allowing U.S. war resisters to apply for permanent resident status. Resisters is just a politically correct word for "deserter." Someone who volunteers for the U.S. army for whatever then decides they really didn't mean it. Maybe they should do their "conscientious objecting" in their own country, before they sign on.

Well, he's not going to do it gratis, not even a socialist could do that. It won't be a clone of Fox though because he knows that there isn't a market here for something quiet that heavy. Besides, I don't think there are any Canadian commentators along the line of Beck or Hannity, unless Michael Coren would be it - Coren has mellowed from his earlier CFRB days though when he was downright rude to callers. I can't see Kinsella being as much of a light weight as Colmes whom I never thought was a good match for Hannity.

Well, not any more LOL I read elsewhere but can't find it now about a couple of other people who also were suspended, so at least these people were caught. Wiki is really not the best, most accurate or balanced site to go to for info. This guy contributed to climate change disinformation and fear mongering of the worst kind. For which party LOL Why does it matter if Harper wears glasses, I wear them is that somehow wrong ? -
I know a lot of conservatives from both sides, I served on EDA's for both Reform, Alliance and CPC in more than one riding, so do have a wide area of knowledge. (I'm not involved right now) The only issue of real importance to them that they would actively support legislation on, is abortion and for a very few, oral contraceptives (they think it's an 'abortifacient' and that I've read about, I don't know them personally. Other than abortion I know of know move or propositions to bring anything forward on any other issue. Many people, not just conservatives have reservations about some issues but I doubt that they would legislate anything. Please enlighten me as to what morality legislation, other than abortion, you think some would like to see enacted.

I knew Wiki could be edited and used for propaganda purposes, this bear it out. What else is edited and used as propaganda? This is interesting and really does speak to the validity of Wiki and what propaganda we are fed so will maybe lead to a more balanced debate. Wikipedia announced that it has fired its long time climate editor William Connolley who has been found to have changed over 5,000 Wikipedia articles to promote AGW catastrophic speculation. http://bishophill.squarespace.com/blog/2010/10/14/going.html http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/10/14/lawrence-solomon-global-warming-propagandist-slapped-down/#ixzz12WbotUDa William Connolley, arguably the world’s most influential global warming advocate after Al Gore, has lost his bully pulpit. Connolley did not wield his influence by the quality of his research or the force of his argument but through his administrative position at Wikipedia, the most popular reference source on the planet. Through his position, Connolley for years kept dissenting views on global warming out of Wikipedia, allowing only those that promoted the view that global warming represented a threat to mankind. As a result, Wikipedia became a leading source of global warming propaganda, with Connolley its chief propagandist. His career as a global warming propagandist has now been stopped, following a unanimous verdict that came down today through an arbitration proceeding conducted by Wikipedia. In the decision, a slap-down for the once-powerful Connolley by his peers, he has been barred from participating in any article, discussion or forum dealing with global warming. In addition, because he rewrote biographies of scientists and others he disagreed with, to either belittle their accomplishments or make them appear to be frauds, Wikipedia barred him — again unanimously — from editing biographies of those in the climate change field. I have written several columns for the National Post on Connolley’s role as a propagandist. Two of them appear here and here. more on wiki http://climaterealists.com/index.php?id=6185 http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/Finally+common+sense+global+warming/3675534/story.html#ixzz2hAQlQeBp

Rick Mercer would be a good addition to help balance it out.

That's torture, people beheaded should be so lucky. It was a woman according to Haaretz and the big difference here is that Israel does not condone it, the IDF's internal investigation department has ordered an immediate probe into the matter.

Fred Phelps and his followers are pond scum they are a very vocal minority with members who are lawyers, therefore are better able to manipulate the system. They are radical but sure don't represent Christianity and are not indicative of any group, they are just plain nuts. I do feel for the relatives and hope that something can be worked out, the court has allready ruled that the protesters have to be so many feet back. One thing that can be done (but not at the funeral itself) is somehow, meet them with peaceful counter protests, let them know how people feel about them, confront them peacefully every time they show up for something.

Gay marriage is a closed issue there's nothing going on to change it, nor will there be. What legislation or even policies are there, or are being changed in order to enact any legislation. I don't see pot as a morality issue, I see it as a safety/health issue, sex outside of marriage - say what, what have I missed. Some people may not agree with it but I don't see them attempting to legislate anything.

Now look if the Toronto Star says it's good - we know it's good -
They can't eliminate it without paying back buckets of money to Ottawa, McGuinty looked after that issue very well. We can only hope that one away or another by the next election we will see relief (from taxes).

Even ole Jon Stewart has lost his happy face, maybe he'll show up at a congressional committee to make a fool of himself too. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/23/stewart-saddened-by-obama/?iref=obinsite http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-10-12/obama-losing-supporters-in-poll-as-joblessness-prompts-voters-discontent.html -
Toronto Municipal Elections 2010
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
If nothing else Ford will shake them up and in doing so, may actually get them to cut the lard out so to speak. Speaking of which, did anyone see the Globe and Mail's hit piece on Ford and fat... wow pretty low class journalism - but.... they must have thought better of it so yanked it because it is not to be found in the G & M or in google's cache. Too bad the Red Star doesn't give it's editorial head a shake now and then. http://bcblue.wordpress.com/2010/10/15/globes-marche-uses-fat-17-times-in-rob-ford-column/ Twitter trackbacks http://topsy.com/www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/rob-fords-not-popular-despite-being-fat-hes-popular-because-of-it/article1759870/ -
Now there's a thought, wonder if he'll do it hmmmm

He can't eliminate the HST but he can cut it back and or he can eliminate the PST portion on some items, he can give people the option to use 'smart meters' and he can lower the electricity rates. He does have some options. The rest of your rant has no bearing on this election.

#2 is very bothersome, from an email they sent out - talking about smear, their petition was a smear with misinformation and innuendo, really short on facts. How many of the names on that petition were Canadian, how much of their money was Canadian? It's no surprise that the left wishes to suppress opposing opinions, this only confirms it. Did you know that they are registered as a 3rd party in Canada, spending tens of thousands of dollars aimed at defeating three Conservative candidates in three federal ridings, even though the Elections Act puts a tight limit on that kind of targeted spending to just a few thousand dollars. I had hoped that after this piece there would be an investigation. I suggest you all write to Elections Canada and your MP asking for one. http://www.nationalpost.com/m/blog.html?b=fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/09/20/kevin-libin-the-third-party-no-one-talks-about
