Actually, is it too much to believe that gov't employees should be neutral, and seen to be neutral ? Although I don't think that wearing a yarmulke or a niqab (not the hijab) is really sending anyone a message, those items as well as the cross as jewellery are innocent casualties in a war against face coverings (e.g. hijab). They can't discriminate against one particular piece of clothing so must include all. They've been pretty heavy handed and have blown it actually, I would imagine eventually it will be rescinded. edited to correct... Although I don't think that wearing a yarmulke or a niqab (not the hijab) is really sending anyone a message, those items as well as the cross as jewellery are innocent casualties in a war against face coverings (e.g. hijab). It should read: Although I don't think that wearing a yarmulke or a hijab is really sending anyone a message, those items as well as the cross as jewellery are innocent casualties in a war against face coverings (e.g. niqab orl Burkha )

Rue, according to the news this morning, the call received by the police said there was a woman threatening a man with a cleaver. There fore the cops acted on a weapons call or whatever they call it. She did not have a cleaver by all accounts, but had a knife. We don't know what she did or how she acted nor the events leading up to this. We don't know who the man was she was chasing because her husband is deceased, but there is a lot more to this than we know. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2013/09/20130904-071842.html Provincial guidelines on the use of stun guns note it's advisable to use them on the elderly. "Is an officer supposed to check someone's identification to check their date of birth before deciding to take life saving action?" said an officer. "It's dark, there is a potential victim and a suspect has a deadly weapon. Those are the first factors an officer considers."

At what point did you stop beating your wife !

Information is changing as we write. There was a knife, not a cleaver as reported to the police. The woman has dementia but we don't know what the events where leading up to the tasering. She said her mother does suffer from dementia. "That is true. She has had a history of mental health issues. She is kind of in and out." Angela said she talked with her mom at the hospital. "I asked her the position of the knife. She said it was down by her side. Not waving it up in the air. "It is so frustrating."

I don't know, only that they were acting on a report, which according to the daughter, was wrong. It was a knife, not a cleaver as was reported to the police. The daughter is getting a lawer. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2013/09/04/21096126.html As usual there are so many sides to this we will have to wait for all the details before rushing to judgement. No doubt had they just tackled her and maybe broken an arm, we would see headlines "hard hearted cops break little old helpless lady's arm".

According to the news this am they got a call saying a woman was chasing a man with a meat cleaver. The woman has dementia but had she buried the cleaver in his head what would be said then.

Well, didn't David Suzuki just tell us that we don't need more people, including immigrants, surely he can't be wrong. Elderly parents tend to be a drain on our health system but if their sponsors take responsibility for their parents’ health (and financial )care then fine. Canada has agreed to take in 1,500 Syrian refugees but Justin Trudeau tells us it's not enough. I have no idea what their skill sets or education would be, or if they would be able to improve themselves once here. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/not-doing-enough-for-refugees-trudeau-221899561.html However, The Fraser Institute tells us that immigrants and refugees impose a fiscal burden on Canada. I think many of us have long believed that, especially when it comes to the family class immigrants. http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/08/29/fraser-institute-report-says-immigrants-refugees-impose-fiscal-burden-on-canada-urges-reform/

Ontario Liberals Sneaky Cuts to Diabetics
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Not likely, and it's the sneakiness that's a big problem. Cuts without announcements. Some people need more than others - but hey - lets give free needles to addicts but not to diabetics. I do watch my diet and don't test as often as some type 2s do and I don't take meds. I'm not really affected by this but I know people who are and have to check more often. bambino: My understanding is it does not affect type 1s. -
The spin around Harper on here is not to be imagined, it's right there. The reporter Li got physical with an aide and tried to grab the microphone so the RCMP stepped in. I can only imagine if a physical altercation happened at a U.S. Pres. Conference.

I doubt that waiting a month to return is due to the Senate expenses, really the gov`t would know how that would be taken. IMO it`s more to do with having some time to regroup, ready for a budget and preparing the legislative agenda. I think we are going to be seeing some strong positions and push back to the negativity.

The real owners are getting screwed. They even have the special 17-digit registration certificate matching the code etched onto each window proving it is theirs. They let the insurance lapse while it was in storage as it was supposed to be secure, if they were actually towing it they would have to put the insurance back on. Which brings us to the storage and why they wouldn't have some liability in this. I suppose they would have to hire a lawyer to sue. However, the real reason behind this is politics and the protection of 'traveller's rights'. In other words the powers that be don't want to be accused of racism and won't go on to a traveller site to evict them. There have been problems before on traveller sites where the police are mobbed and have to use riot police. In other words, if the illegal owners were not 'travellers' the police would have seized it and returned it to the rightful owners. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8835560/Dale-Farm-eviction-as-it-happened.html They are now willing to seize it - if they can find it. I guess the pressure was on to do the right thing. http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/09/police-apologise-to-couple-after-they-fail-to-seize-stolen-caravan-because-other-family-are-in-it-3918107/

Ontario Liberals Sneaky Cuts to Diabetics
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I'm not sure I buy into that. I'm a type 2 and test myself regularly along with seeing a dietician etc. It is a big deal for those who have to check themselves. Again, I see it as just another form of rationing health care to save money. -

Pat Martin - he had to borrow a lot of money for his defense in a lawsuit. He settled but there's non disclosure I guess cos we don't know how much he had to cough up. -
More sneaky stuff from the Ontario Liberals, now they are rationing type 2 diabetics without notification or publicity. This is just another form of rationing seniors' health care. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2013/08/20130814-073258.html

The original owners didn't get insurance because they were 'in between policies' whatever that means. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10211103/Couples-stolen-caravan-cannot-be-returned-as-could-breach-traveller-familys-human-rights.html The real owners of the caravan bought it on hire purchase and are still making payments on it. All we know is that the travellers ‘allegedly’ purchased a caravan worth tens of thousands for £300 from a guy (probably their cousin) in a pub and have a scrap of paper as a receipt which they could have written themselves. They didn’t know it was stolen… sure… guess they also believe in the tooth fairy. At the very least the traveller is in receipt of stolen goods which is a crime. I’m not sure why the new owners of this caravan would not be responsible for the rest of the payments now that they have possession and nothing to say they should not assume payments. Also, what if the real owners quit making the payments, could the company then repossess it. (assuming they could find it ) Some additional info here and it seems the case has been re-opened and now they can give it back to the rightful owners but have to find it first. Good luck with that now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-23612766 "We are aware of the public's concern but this was a unique set of circumstances and we remain committed to protecting our communities. "A key part of [the] inquiry is to locate the caravan and return it to its legal owners."

Only in your mind. As for 'fleshing out an argument' - for what purpose, it just goes off into never never land most of the time. -

Say what !! This poor couple spent their savings on a retirement plan, a new caravan but it was stolen by travellers. The caravan has been found but the police won't return it because - guess what - it's against the Travellers' human rights  I think I'd be watching it to see if they left it then hitch it up quickly.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2381292/Police-wont-hand-stolen-caravan-couple-protect-human-rights-travellers-living-it.html#ixzz2blqeSItp
