  1. Trudeau is hardly going to bring change so far nothing new and nothing of importance. I'll predict a conservative minority with the Liberals as opposition.
  2. I disagree, it would be an internal coup. I'm not totally against the right, I just want a higher bar, say 25% for the petition and 2/3 majority for the vote. I don't agree with taking away the right of the membership to vote for the party leader at their leadership convention. Giving that right to the caucus only would take away from the rights of the membership. It was one of the items voted down at the last convention. He should've taken that into consideration when trying to take those rights away, a tactical error on his part.
  3. Other than hysterical headlines and media opinions is there any proof or hard data to support the assertion that PMs have abused the signing process? The Elections Act has required the signature since the 60s. Usually the PM’s signature is just the end of a along process which includes vetting by the Candidates Nomination Committee. I wouldn’t make a generalized statement about how well equipped they are to ask questions either.
  4. He might but don't forget the other parties who don't seem to be supporting it. IMO it would be a coup of sorts if the caucus decided after a couple of years they really didn't like their leader so lets get a petition together. This type of action should require more than a 15% petition, and more than a 50% +1 vote, the bar is too low.
  5. I don't agree with taking away the right of the membership to vote, that is more democratic then only the caucus voting for him. Not to mention that he does not have the support because a resolution proposing some of these changes was defeated at their last convention. Recall isn't a bad idea but Chong is setting the bar too low which would allow for abuse.
  6. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/11/30/michael-chong-stephen-harper_n_4364964.html According to this, the NDP may not support it, haven't heard about the Liberals yet.
  7. So maybe a few do, but not in any of the EDAs I hear from. I belong to a private group consisting of riding EDAs, it certainly is not an idea supported there.
  8. I can confirm that. Not only recruit people from their houses of worship etc. but from out of riding. There were pages of them in my riding but the deadlines and time constraints didn't allow us to verify them all until it was over. Fortunately the guy didn't win. I also remember years ago Art Hanger's riding have the same problem only much bigger. If it were not for the fact that something like 5 Sikhs were running which divided the vote, Art would've lost the nomination. Later it was found that something like 7,000 names were from out of riding. It is not a well thought out amendment that does not have the support of the party membership. A resolution proposing some of this change was defeated at the last convention.
  9. I think it's funny how everyone but the conservatives and people in the party are saying Harper should step down. This is just the media planting the narrative. Talking about precedents. The police report/docs referred to the Lib MP Judy Sgro's case as a precedent the Senate followed. page 15 q.
  10. The media tells us a lot spins a lot and also omits a lot so I wouldn't believe everything the media tells us. Read this in the Star and thought it was interesting especially coming from a former "NDP spinner" Spin is the name of the game really. Note the comments in bold http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2013/11/26/grits_win_byelection_night_by_outspinning_opponents.html
  11. So far the only whispering about him resigning is from the media, I've heard nothing about it on the (CPC) groups I go to. Mr. Harper did release all the emails and also waived his parliamentary privilege so yes, it's highly unlikely he would have done that if he was involved.
  12. Only if people continue to believe the media hysterics. At the end of all it’s nothing but 90k in inappropriate claims partly because the Liberal Senate majority blocked Senate Accountability legislation for years. (which has been paid back) This is nothing compared the millions in Liberal scandals still owed. I was pleasantly surprised to see this letter in today's Globe and Mail. "As a member of the Conservative Party, and an informed voter, I have read, from front to back, the Information to Obtain Orders filed by the RCMP in the Wright-Duffy affair. The Globe is to be commended for its balanced and accurate reporting of what is actually contained in the Order. The information filed by the RCMP with the courts shows three things: 1) Nigel Wright was trying to do the right thing by retrieving $90,000 in taxpayers’ money to which Mr. Duffy was not entitled; 2) Mr. Duffy was no friend of the truth in what he told the Senate, the PM and the Canadian public; 3) Stephen Harper knew nothing about the affair and has ensured that the PMO has fully co-operated with the RCMP investigation. It is hard for the opposition to cry cover-up when the PMO gave the RCMP access to 260,000 e-mails. The truly sad thing is that a misguided, possibly illegal attempt to have $90,000 dollars repaid to taxpayers is somehow a scandal, yet we are still short $40-million in taxpayers’ money because of the Liberals’ Adscam scandal. =============, Oshawa, Ont."
  13. He doesn't have to resign. The RCMP report doesn't contain much for the Prime Minister to be afraid of, never mind fearing for his job. Has Anyone on here actually read the report?.
  14. I'm, not 'apoplectic' about anything, just read the report.
  15. Not likely the same piece of crap media who break the anti conservative stories.
  16. I'm not talking about myself, I think it was August who posted it.
  17. Didn't someone just get a warning point for something similar ? That's why he's on ignore. Anyhoo, Trudeau is quite the hypocrite for standing in the HOC accusing the PM of withholding information when he is holding back information about Senator Kenny.
  18. According to the police report Mr. Harper did not know about the plan nor the cheque Nigel cut. It also shows that it was Senator Duffy, via his lawyer who made the demands of the PMO that the Deloitte audit be halted etc. Everything is speculation because there is no new evidence to suggest PM was involved in any criminal, activity or even a coverup. The report shows Nigel Wright to be a good man who mean well and intended nothing criminal. It's too bad he tried to help Duffy. Have any of you read the report, and if so do you believe it to be accurate ?
  19. Have you read the report because I think many will be very disappointed. Duffy is proven to be quite the liar and there is no evidence to suggest the PM was culpable in anything.
  20. Power. The opposition wants power at any cost so rather than focus on the economy, the EU trade deal etc. etc. they focus on trying to bring down the gov't. The problem for Mulcair is he won't benefit from this, Trudeau and the Liberals will.
  21. 3 more sleeps and in another world, no more Canadian news... will have to talk to Bright House see if I can get BBC. Meanwhile, hypocrisy much. Fundraising for NDP MP Pat Martin's defamation suit costs remains secret http://bit.ly/1dNahIH

Oh look, someone else that doesn't know the difference between a civil suit and criminal bribery.

  22. Why does it matter why I care, why do you care about the subject. Liberal/NDP supporters aren't exactly famous for their objective lack of partisanship, now, are they, it cuts both ways. I too hope it all comes out eventually, but I doubt no matter how it plays it out, it will satisfy the opposition. Edited to show quote
  23. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter whether or not the PM is as innocent of the proceedings. Those who hate Harper will believe what they wish to and nothing will change that. People seem to believe Duffy but a few weeks ago he was a common thief and scumbag. Not to mention that Duffy hasn’t named the PM at all. If we look more objectively at the situation and not through prism of hate, it is still an overblown heap of rhetoric and hyperbole. As Wright said: “I did not advise the Prime Minister of the means by which Sen. Duffy's expenses were repaid, either before or after the fact." http://tinyurl.com/mvhczn9 Still little mention or any of Mac Harb, Kenney and ex Liberal MP Joe Fontana now having to stand trial on criminal charges from the time he was an MP. Also wait for the auditor's report, there maybe more. Meanwhile, this is likely one of the most important pieces of economic legislation in years, yet where does the CBC put it – on a sub page http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/summary-of-canada-eu-free-trade-deal-tabled-1.2286695 have fun...
  24. I think they should modify it, only suspend them for a year instead of two, a compromise of sorts. You'd think this was total expulsion but it isn't, it's only a suspension.
