It is just a story If someone actually used this story as a reference to factual history, I would have to wonder at their intelligence. Enjoy the "story" - it is nothing more. Borg

Seven buyers eye $2.5-million steam train
Borg replied to Leafless's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Or they got some free "stay in canada" money from the feds to make the buy. Borg -
You have a higher opinion of canadians than I do. After many years of social re-engineering they will fall for this - hook line and sinker. I can only hope you are correct in your assumptions. Remember - gc has challenged you to prove it - while doing nothing more than stating his own beliefs - proof goes both ways but will not be forthcoming. He will not provide because he (perhaps a she) cannot - however as a lib supporter he can always promote the *&^* libs. As an old guy I have never seen a tax come on board that did not reduce net income - that is my proof - gc on the other hand will simply egg you - and laugh all the way. Borg
-
And did pretty well by it! Tough to move 30 million squatters off land you deem to be yours. Ownership - hmmm.... possession and 9/10's of the law comes to mind Borg
-
You are right and I was wrong Blaze a mark on the wall - an admission of guilt from Borg I am so tired of hearing how this tax will simply shift the burden - NEVER think it will do this. It will simply take more from our wallets. Any carbon tax is nothing more than a tax grab. Borg
-
I do not usually write in this type of language - but - your statement is such a load of bull shit. Are your eyes brown? That S.O.B. will NEVER produce a revenue neutral tax - if you think this is so your ayes ARE brown. Shifting the tax burden? My ass!! There has never been a tax that I can think of that has not DECREASED my overall income. You are either very young, or very stupid - or truly believe that dion $^&$ - which would make you a simpleton. Either way, trust me - dion is dangerous and will take your money - and very likely GIVE it to another country someday to buy carbon credits. Another load of bullshit! You take MY money and GIVE it to a foreign country - and NOT spend it here? Now ANYONE who would support that - or support dions idiotic move - especially during this time of rising fuel prices - literally DESERVES the taxation they get. Borg

Whether more are returning or not, the fact remains this is an opportunity for this kid - Go!! As for brain drain - well this is a different world - hence no real borders. The older generation has fancy ideas on patriotism while the younger generation as a whole does not have those same ideas. Opportunity and money and adventure often far outweigh the grind of traffic in downtown montreal, toronto or other major centres filled with human resistance folks who hire on the basis of your degree and often pay less than a tradesmans wages. I am out of this country for a year as of July - maybe two. I do it for the wallet and the adventure. Love that tax free salary and benefits. The risk is even more fun. To heck with the canadian borders and patriotism - I do this for me. Young folks see the salaries in the paper - along with the cost of living and taxes and realize advancement in a foreign country is faster and often easier. Can't do that in canada - land of the "take from the worker" tax machine. Heck to bring home 100K you nearly have to make 200K and then it can cost as much as 800 bucks a month for transport and parking to go to work. I live it. Before any smarties tell me to take the bus - find it here and i would use it - simply not there. Importing professionals? Heck I would not want too many of those third world doctors working on me - make it attractive and our people stay home - do nothing and they will be happy to leave. After all canucks of convenience in Leb country can do it - so why not one who was born here? Borg

Who is this steve guy? Certainly not someone who could be considered a national leader. Borg

Topaz - go out and buy a couple of trucks - help support your economy. Share holders and profit rule. Simple economics. I would expect this company to maintain a profit or shut down. Seems they are doing what they deem best. Would you run at a loss until you declare yourself financially insolvent? Borg

After reading this several times to understand, I ask the following question. If this is true please provide proof. Or is this speculation? Either way, nothing is gained in politics without compromise. What is your problem with this? Borg

Tell her to pack her bags - head for Harvard - great school and an impressive rolodex of contacts upon graduation. The alumni alone will provide her with something she could never get here in canada - support that is out of this world. Come back to U of T for advanced training if she wants - even more contacts. To get a Harvard invite is world class - be proud and encourage her to go. Bet she gets an offer that she cannot refuse out of Harvard. Patriotism be danged - go to the place that provides something she will not get here in canada - a look at life outside this sphere of waffling. Borg

If this is true, I will simply unbolt my 1/4 inch thick steel mailbox (no baseball bats survive!), take the backhoe and push the pipe in a few more inches - then replace the mail box. Probably due to the fact the majority of mail delivery folks are switching from pick-ups to small cars - hard to reach that mail box from way down there. Borg

Afghan Girl's 'Honour Killing' Sparks Debate in Germany

Not like it has not happened before and it will happen again. What's the problem? The perpetrators are simply following their traditions Borg -
And THAT ladies and gentlemen is probably the most intelligent thing that will be stated on this thread. I believe the vast majority of canucklehaeds would agree. A supreme waste of time, effort and money. Borg

Actually if this keeps that little murderer out of canada a few days longer I am a happy camper. Now if we could just get rid of his family as well ....... Borg

It works for me - however you do have it wrong - to be neutral you must be very strong - military wise - are you prepared to allow service personnel to keep their MP-5s and C-7s in their homes? HORRORS!! The Swiss do. Canada is a pissant on the back side of a hippo - weak and weak kneed in many ways due to the people of this country and their decades of lib social re-engineering. Neutrality is not a defence. The ability to kick the living shit out of someone who trespasses is a defence. Canada does well with what they have - but is still not worth being counted on the wolrd stage. The Swiss and Swedes are far stronger and a force to be reckoned with if disturbed. If you believe otherwise you are not as intelligent as you let on. Swiss policy is neutrality - through strength. Ask any Swiss and they will tell you that to be strong you need a military and lots of weapons. Words do not defend and the speaker will squeal nicely when kicked or butt stroked. Non-interference? The Swiss do interfere - especially in the financial side of the house. I wonder if all that stolen Jewish treasure will be returned? I think you are living in a rose coloured world. The Swiss could quite easily defeat many who might try to hurt her. Mandatory military service? Hmmm ..... talk the talk - prepared to walk the walk? Borg

Miller aims to ban handguns, shut ranges
Borg replied to WarBicycle's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Nothing. It is simply playing to peoples fears. Create more laws. Criminals will obey them. As much as they obey the laws that are presently in hand. Ho Hum - another day in canuckleland - I used to think the fruits and nuts folks only lived on the west coast - looks like the political F&N group is expanding and the sheeple of canuckleland will blindly follow - lead by the cbc and the toronto star. Just another bucket of oil to add to the slippery slopes. Borg -
That is because of geography and the fact that a large percentage who serve in the military keep their weapons at home - enabling the country to mobilize a couple hundred thousand within 24 hours - unheard of anywhere else. Certainly it is so heavily armed that no country would want to try. Plus dams rigged to blow and flood, tunnels with massive steel columns set to rise and block traffic, underground storage and shelter - undergrounsd airports for fighters, underground armouries for light and heavy weaponry and much much more. To put it lightly - the entire country is an armed camp. And the crime rate is really low. Plus - no one in the outside world wants their bank accounts destroyed and / or looted. Sweden is also in this boat - no one could attack either country without sustaining absolutely massive and completely unacceptable losses. Very poor example you used. Borg

Judges have garnered too much power and the politicians have bowed to them. Judges simply administer the law - politicians create them This judge is exercising what he thinks his power should be - in fact I think he needs a kick in the ass Borg

It is like this in business and it is like this in the F***ing Libs and it is like this in the NDP as well as the cons. Heck, I hired both my kids last summer and I also hired my neighbours son - they made a lot of money - and I got some good workers. I really do not care if some MP hires his colleagues kids - and I do not care which party they work for either. Tempest in a tea pot. If they can do the job who cares? Borg

Attitudes like mine? I am a cream puff I simply tell it like I see it - if you believe you have to protect them then you have failed at your job of raising them. Borg -
Conservative MP Lukiwski still hasn't reached out to gays
Borg replied to maldon_road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This happened years ago. Not one of us can look back at our lives and say we have never done anything to make us feel ashamed / whatever. If I had been him I simply would have stood up and stated "that was me then - I am a different man today - judge me on today or not at all" The gay community is not such a "clean group" itself - and has cast many dispersions / allegations and such over the years - perhaps it is simply time for the whining to stop and for people to move on. As the only white guy at a beer and poker call of sorts last friday night I was called whitey at least a dozen times by some pretty good guys - should I sue? Or should I take it up with the local media? After all two of them were pretty big business leaders in the community. And at least one is a financial supporter of the local MP in a big way. I must be able to profit from this somehow. Suggestions? Or maybe I should let it go - after all one of them is coming over to the house in a couple of days to help me with some wood cutting projects - his talent is far greater than mine in this arena. Or should I wait until I have benefitted from his help in the work shop - and THEN sue? Sometimes folks take themselves far too seriously. Borg -
Mandatory service times have been increased and time to serve until pensionable have been increased - however it is necessary to get beyond the very large bubble of those under the old plan who will step out with a minimum pension at 20 years of service. Free education? When I drove Hornets I was away from home an average of more than 200 days a year for the first 5 years on the job. My own kids ran from me when I came home in the third year - did not know me. Stepped into more than one smoking hole to pick up body parts and even did this while holding a bunch of environmentalists at bay in Inuvik many years ago - pretty good guy went in that day. Have two holes in my body from not so friendly people who decided my skin colour and my religion were defining factors - I was on a ground job in a hot country - wearing a blue beanie - gotta' love peace keeping - it is a f**king bastard until the peace making is complete and in the bag. Most canuckleheads are too smug to know this though - they have a romantic view of the wearers of the blue beamie. Managed to save a few folks lives on the west coast as a SAR pilot - I think they consider my education paid in full as well. Yup my education was free - and I use it for many things - including taking a lot of money from people for my services. Even my internet sites pay off. Oleg does not like me for my capitalistic ways. But after doing my time I figure it is time to do it to others - so I make money - lots. Back to the story - The old plan will affect the military for another 18 or so years if my calculations are correct. There is a time at around the 12 year mark where the decision to stay or go must be made - with international demand high for aircrew - many chose to leave - and I do not blame them - to get promoted you need the following: 1. Speak french 2. University degree 3. Staff school 4. Staff college 5. Operational tours ...... and much, much more. All the above mean time from family and placing the body at risk - for pay that is not close to reality and availablity. If you make $xx and are offered $XXXXX for the same job, better benefits and less risk plus an improved lifestyle - what would you do? Heck, recruiters are having a tough time getting certain trades in the door for a reason. Kids are a lot smarter today about things like this. The people who can get out without a penalty to their pension and step into a 6 plus figure salary are the ones with the experience and the leadership - this will hurt the military big time and is a serious topic of discussion at all levels. Conscription? You ready to go? They will take you at almost any age as long as you are fit (if memory serves) - new rules under the charter - and you can stay until age 60. I can just see the reaction from Joe and Mary, Smith / Jacques / Abdhulla / Mohammed / Mohican etc when they get their conscription notices. I suspect it would not go over well. This government would never do this - nor would those bast**d libs - it would cost them their jobs. Hey, have a good one, Borg
