  1. I found this article. But it should be pointed out that the author is a director of the Fraser Institute and those guys take piles of foreign money so you can't really trust them.
  2. Cite? Psst: a hunting rifle is a gun.
  3. If the rumors are true, she's more progressive than PMSH on a number of issues.
  4. Between their GMO stance, their fluoride stance, Elizabeth May's past support of "alternative medicine" quackery and a few other "huh?" moments, I don't think the Greens can be taken seriously.
  5. Consistent and respectful would be fine too.
  6. #BlackLivesMatter is fomenting so much violence that cop deaths are down from the same time last year.

Are frustrated people fighting against authority for no reason? Or is there an underlying problem that needs to be solved?

"“Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported” - man accussed of assaulting and urinating on a homeless man in Boston. The GOP is a hate group.

  7. Jesus Murphy, it's no wonder no one takes you and your crank site seriously with spittle-flecked nonsense like this.
  8. I suspect this guy wants to get fired. Link Who the frick puts out a news release complaining about and making allegations against his employer? He's angling for a dismissal and a lawsuit IMO.
  9. I agree. But that's not where this is all coming from, is it? The OP is using this as a "gotcha" moment (I guess one must rigidly adhere to ideas at all times and never change one's mind). I followed the carding debate here and one of the things that came out of that is the information police gathered is not scientific. One individual who had been carded multiple times managed to get his reports through an FOI request and every cop had assigned him a different ethnicity seemingly at random. Point here: it may be that more data is better than less, but if the data is bad, where are we then? Stats are great, but I don't trust the cops to collect them in a way that is actually useful in developing programs or strategies for crime prevention.
  10. Anyone else noticed that this place is being used to plug third-party web content by a member who also holds multiple accounts in violation of forum rules?

I've noticed the plugging of 3rd party content and wish the mods would do something about that. How can you tell if someone holds multiple accounts?

As long as you don't use "Steve", "Tom" or "Justin" then the forum will be alright.

The trolls? Not even an issue...

  11. You said yourself you know where the problems are and who is causing and being victimized by them. Betting that the cops and social service agencies on the ground do to. What specific information are you lacking? Then there's the assumption that having that information would actually make a difference, which is a pretty big leap given the gap between knowing and doing. FTR, I'm not against more stats, I'm against intellectually bankrupt partisan arguments.
  12. That's a very different thing than "enabling" crime, though. That this sudden thirst for information is coming from the same lot that supported the end of the long form census shows there's no principle at work here, just point-scoring.
  13. This is bullshit. Any budget they made on the campaign trail would be out the window the second they had a look at the actual books. So? What's wrong with that? The outcome of the election is going to impact the budget. Why bother with a budget you'll need to revamp in just a few months? First: it's clear you have an inkling that the boom had an impact on consumers costs and prices which would in turn drive up salaries (otherwise, how else will you get people to work?). The disparity between Alberta and the rest of Canada was even greater when you compared private sector wages. But the notion that salaries should ebb and flow with the price of oil...do you actually not understand how salaries and collective bargaining contracts work? Do you think trained professionals like doctors and nurses should be subject to the same kind of arbitrary wage and job reductions as some high school student working the rigs? You do know what "per capita" means, yes? But anyway, let's take your argument that Alberta spends too much on the public service: who do you think is responsible for that and why would you trust them to fix it?
  14. If they had released a budget, you'd be complaining they rushed it out without as full grasp of the economic situation. If oil prices were high, people would be saying it would be a bad time to raise taxes because it would drive businesses to other markets. Amazing that can be the case even as Alberta has some of the lowest public spending per capita among the provinces and the lowest in the country as a percentage of GDP.
  15. Boy you know shooting sprees are old hat when even the resident gun nuts can't be arsed to rouse themselves to trot out their usual fake-ass NRA talking points. Anyway, here's an answer to the the usual line about "what about (insert other shooting here)?" Link
  16. This is the best: almost no real women used Ashley Madison.
  17. It's not about the media, it's the fact it happened live on air. BTW: are members of the media not also regular Americans?
  18. A society with guns. Whatever "causes" mental illness and homicidal behavior, the ability to act out in a violent way is greatly enhanced by the availability and ease of acquiring firearms. Did it though? The U.S. had about 50 million guns 20 years ago. There's about 300 million guns now (both these are rough estimates since real data is hard to come by, but they'll do for our purposes). Now, per capita rates of gun ownership have declined heavily since then, but there are a lot more guns now than there were 20, 30, 40 years back. You can't take a truck into a school or a movie theatre or workplace, can you? Mental health is a smokescreen gun advocates like to toss up to distract from the issue of firearms.
  19. If this didn't happen on TV, it wouldn't even register. Another day, another gun massacre.
  20. So you legitimately don't see the difference between CBC employees as individuals and CBC as an organization?
  21. I was starting to think you don't actually know what "partisan" means. This confirms that suspicion.
  22. Because I never bought the act. Also, even if it's all on the up and up, swinging from one partisan extreme to the other doesn't make you non-partisan.
