The Olympics are a terrible idea. No Olympics, AFAIK, has ever made money. It's a money pit. Can someone tell me why we can't go ahead and build infrastructure that is already necessary without incurring the added and unnecessary costs associated with these white elephant events?

That's not the restaurant's responsibility, thief. But you're a thief. I bet you're 95 pounds soaking wet and have never hit someone in your life.- 276 replies

So he says. It would probably matter to the Crown, who wouldn't take a case they were sure they couldn't win.- 54 replies

Gregory Elliott's Twitter Harassment Trial
Black Dog replied to Evening Star's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And why should we believe him? Do you honestly think that seven tweets would be sufficient grounds for charges of criminal harassment, violating a peace bond laid and brought to trial?- 54 replies

Where have you travelled (going to travel) open thread
Black Dog replied to msj's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
The implication that if one is concerned about climate change, one should thus live a pre-industrial lifestyle is completely fatuous. -
Gregory Elliott's Twitter Harassment Trial

Uh, I'm not the one making any claims requiring attribution. We've covered this on page one. Anyway, suffice to say your characterization of this case is grossly inaccurate. Quelle surprise. Here's another Post piece on the subject that corrects some of the inaccuracies of Blatchford's while still balancing the sides.- 54 replies

So you've never traveled, then. Shocker. Those planes are flying whether I'm on there or not. -

Here's another POV on this story. This suggests he may have been following her in real life as well. FTR, I watched this whole thing unfold over Twitter and it was pretty clear that this guy has some real issues/is a creep. I don't think this would have gone this far unless the Crown really felt a line had been crossed and there was a good chance of a conviction.- 54 replies

Stormfront conservatives and "sjws"
Black Dog replied to bleeding heart's topic in Political Philosophy
Cool, let's try this: "We should round up all *members of ISIS* and cull half their population in order to make the world safer for *everyone else*" Curses! Bigotry! -
There's no evidence for this claim. As I already pointed out: there's no such thing as "true free speech" except for sociopaths and Asperger's sufferers. People self-censor all the time.
-
Because apparently it needs to be repeated on every single page, there's no evidence anyone is trying to stop people from saying what they want by raising awareness of how some people might find certain questions/comments/phrases. There's literally no free speech issue here.
-
Bunch of slippery-slope nonsense, both of these. Unless you are complete sociopaths, you already censor yourselves on a daily basis. Because that's what non-sociopaths do: they adjust their behaviour to accommodate people around them. It's why we have the term "polite society." It's not a big deal unless you're the kind of who thinks their every utterance is god's gift to humanity and any attempt to curb your genius is some kind of crime. "Think about what I say and what it means to others? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!"
-
And why is that such a burden? Are you all so socially inept that if taking away "asking a foreign-looking person where they're from" out of your bag of tricks leaves you with nothing to say?
