Adscam II is coming back real soon.
Ricki Bobbi replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Uhhh, the Foundation structure is a joke. Weren't they all originally started with a five-year mandate? I know this one was. The rationale being it was only five years so people wouldn't scream about the arms length setup. i.e. the Governor General's inability to keep close tabs on it. Any evidence on how Fraser is *keeping track of the Foundations*? -
I haven't defended Khan at all. Simply questioned the double-standard of the Liberal supporters here. They stood as candidates for their party in the General Election immediately following their floor crossing. I am completely confident Khan will do the same.

CPC Jeopardized Canadian Security At Home

You honestly think the Government watches the National and responds within a couple of hours by spending additional millions of dollars??? Geoff is right. One boat will make that big of a difference? Where would these people wanting to come in from be based? Are they sitting watching the National waiting for stories of this Nature and ready to pounce? There is real irony in a typo in the last line of your post. -
Who knows who would be decrying it? I think my question was fair. I still find it very odd how you get teacher's and the jewish community both supporting the Ontario Liberals. To confirm 'inculcate' was the OPs word not mine, but I think he used it fairly. Inclucate can be associated with an attempt to brainwash somebody. That's the fear I got from the OP that teacher's would use this new found ability to advocate for Palestinians as a means of turning the opinion of their student's against Israel.

What are you saying? Are you equating people who favour the existence of Israel with those who advocate creationism and deny global warming? Is your sense of entitlement blinding you to the clear wrongs in this resolution? That unions should be dictating school curriculums? That the classroom isn't the place for political advocacy?

Conservatives to deal with Fiscal Imbalance.
Ricki Bobbi replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think the new, more mature, Alberta sees how unsuccessful that tactic was for us in 1993. Do tell us which years were better for Alberta. 1984 to 1993? Or 1993 to 2006? I have faith that Albertans will reward Harper for the positive steps he has been able to take in the last year. Unfortunately, there is a serious undertone of impracticality to those people who voted Conservative in the last election who are already planning on abandon him for keeping his word and not breaking out the *secret agenda* that never really existed. Harper in the PMO may not be perfect for Albertans, but he is better than any of out other options... -
CPC Jeopardized Canadian Security At Home
Ricki Bobbi replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Since the CPC's resolution of the problem has come within two hours of the original CBC broadcast I will say both. Minister O'Connor just approved an extra $3.5 Million. The Government doesn't move that quickly so something tells me the extra funding was already in the works. So instead of giving the Minister a day to deal with the issue the CBC added to its attack on an issue that it wouldn't have to apologize about later. They got into too much trouble over that one... Oh look at that a good news story on the Harper Government and the environment gets pushed to fourth place in the lineup. I guess the environment is only the most important issue to Canadian voters when the CBC can make the Government look bad over the issue... -
My condescension is not needed? You've been to an NFL game? Where? When?

Another CBC hit piece posted by Catchme. Good work sir! -
The CBC does not represent public broadcasting. It broadcasts commercials, still competes directly with private broadcasters in sports (a field that is done more efficiently and effetively by the private broadcasters), and it takes much more Government subsidy than would be necessary to prevent an alternate vision to the "corporate media". Why should a true public braodcaster have such a broad mandate? If it were truly a public broadcaster there wouldn't be any issues with it...

Conservatives to deal with Fiscal Imbalance.

Accountability Act - promise kept. GST cut - promise kept. Crime Bills - promise kept. Choice in Childcare - Promise kept. Pilot project for pediatric wait times guarantee - promise kept. 11,000 acres of farmland sold back to Quebec farmers around Mirabel - promise kept .... You will probably call all of these nothing. But that's ok. You'll never vote conservative and you never have. -
And you have completely ignored the voting history of Canadians to arrive at this view?
-
Why wasn't he kicked out of the Liberal caucus for this de-registration? Why has nobody here complained about the Liberals not sanctioning Kahn while he was in their caucus? Is there any reason for this double-standard?

The best quote from the story. So the timing for the election looks to be in Harper's hands for the moment...

Harper, Equalization & Federal Transfers
Ricki Bobbi replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Amen to that. You never know though. Losing seats in Saskatchewan could really hurt the Conservatives. I still don't understand how Radio Canada is the outlet that got this story. The Conservatives have been so leak-free that I can't see the Radio Canada getting it as an unplanned lead. Maybe it's a red herring??? Has the added bonus of making MortherCorp look bad! Not bizarre at all. The primary rationale is that natural resources are not a stable source of funding and should not be the basis for deciding transfers in the long-term. For example, oil is off almost 25% from it's peak last summer. What if Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland's 2006-7 contributions were based on the peak figure? Would the have-nots offer to take a smaller transfer out of the same sense of fairness that lead to the transfer program in the first place? Vanity? wtf? That has to be one of the strangest ascribed motivations for Albertans voting Conservative I have heard... It has been for a long time. Most posters here are too young to be able to remember this, but Montreal was the main centre of commerce in the country before Rene Levesque won his first election. I will trust him too. I somehow doubt everything in that Radio-Canada 'exclusive' will come true... -
Stelmach is a very different cat from Ralphie boy. We'll have to see if his approach ends up being better for my fellow Albertans. My bigger question, wtf is a gapper?
-
Agreed about Emerson (and Stronach and Brison). Turner is a different story for two reasons. He is sitting as an independent and he was kicked out.

Conservatives to deal with Fiscal Imbalance.

That is exactly what he has done. But it does not necessarily mean it will lead to separation in Alberta. I haven't seen anything here in Calgary that would lead me to think people in great numbers are really considering separation. Not in the leadership vote. Not in opinion polls. Nothing. -

Eager? Maybe. People might take issue with how they kept the promise, but they did keep it. Besides with something as nebulous as the fiscal imbalance it is impossible to keep everybody happy. Leafs fan .... yuk. My team has won the cup in most of our lifetimes. Just went in the spring.... -
Getting re-elected won't be easy but it isn't completely out of the question. He won 46% to 35% as a Liberal last year. Can he lure one out of every seven voters from the last election?

Favouring dialogue? No, not really surprising. Pretty broad term. Depends on the subjects he proposed to be discussed before we can judge him on that.
