It's not a high priority right now, but it will happen one day. Harper probably doesn't really have an issue with decriminalization. That would fit with his Libertarian philosophy on life. That map is interesting...

The Federal Accountability Act - A fraud
Ricki Bobbi replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The greater fraud is repeated postings from Democracy Watch! Fair and balanced that one... -
I love people who start posts with *I don't mean to* or *Not to be rude, but*.... As if somehow that phrase at the start gives them license to be rude or rain on somebody's parade. You clearly don't understand football or like it. We get that. "Crumbling on the ground"? wtf does that mean Your not even consistent in your criticism. Complaining about the time between plays and then talking about baseball being better to watch live? Baseball takes far more time between plays then football. It is a much slower-paced sport.

Oda not welcome at provincial meeting on women's issues
Ricki Bobbi replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So now news releases are a legitimate part of the debate? We get what these groups want, but try and add some value. What group sent this out? The Conservatives campaigned on their Choice in Childcare program. They won the election. Why ask for them to change their plan? Do these groups really have so little respect for democracy? -
Rightly said. I don't think it is fair to say advocating the status quo is pushing for "permanent criminal records and jail sentences" for simple possession. The status quo is one of benign disinterest. Those laws are technically on the books but haven't been truly enforced for decades. There has been no push by the Government to start enforcing tose laws more strictly. No public advocacy of such. Technical decriminalization of simple possession with nothing else done to address the supply and distribution of pot is ridiculous. The Hell's Angels and other organized crimes groups make tons of money off of pot. To The Senate committee that came up with the first proposal on pot showed how out of touch they were by recommending an ounce of pot as the limit for simple possession.

Not only is Zolf wrong on the history, but his bias against Harper is painful and hypocritical. Look at his last dozen columns about Harper they all use the term social conservative, socially conservative or radical conservative *EXCEPT* for when he is tripping over himself to praise Harper for his stand on Israel. Those terms never get thrown out in those cases. Why is it Zolf through's in those red flag terms in every column about every topic but one? Could it be his religion.....

If it's a woman look for it to be Brigitte Legault or Liza Frulla. I am not holding my breathe for a Conservative victory. *If* the plan is solid enough for the Conservatives to win Outremont look for them to call a general election ASAP afterwards. My gawd would the Liberals shit their pants if they lost that riding.

Adscam II is coming back real soon.
Ricki Bobbi replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pictures of Liberals being lead away in handcuffs would be manna from Heaven. I seriously doubt the Convservatives can hope to get so lucky. I wouldn't expect Harper to blow up on the campaign trail. He had no chance at winning a majority last time. The only possible *error* he made was in making the very valid point about there never really being a *true* Conservative majority. Harper likes PM. He knows that another solid, tightly controlled campaign is his only chance at a majority. He will not blow up! -
The Conservative agenda and the ethnic vote
Ricki Bobbi replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
An example of Harper criticizing the Liberals as the Prime Minister? Don't believe you have an example of the Harper Conservative government criticizing the Liberals for cosying up to the immigrant vote. Prime Minister Harper? Remember you did talk about the *Liberal Governments. How did Garth find this out? Is there any evidence? *Everybody* criticized Martin he was terrible. Now any examples where you criticized the Chretien Government? Interesting how you evaded my question. How very like a politician of you, hypocritical Fortunatie -
Seattle can't compete. Gorssman could have a QB rating of 50 and the Bears will still win. Try excellent special teams and a good defence. How is Seattle going to upset them? Alexander still isn't 100% and Hasselbeck? Come on... I don't know if I have faith in Garcia's ability to win the big game. He's never done it beforem and this is a big stage to be on. He won the Grey Cup, but we know that it doesn't really compare... Completely agreed. I know the Patriots have some weaknesses but I don't believe San Diego is the team to exploit them. It's the Colts. The Ravens defence is too strong and all that hype about *how well* the Colts defence played last week is a bit overblown... Absolutely right! Go Oilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Conservative agenda and the ethnic vote
Ricki Bobbi replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Read my post. Harper is reaching out to ethnic communities is party policy. There is no problem with him doing that. Read Fortunata's posts. She is *always* attacking Harper no matter what he does. That's why I called her a Harper-hater... If you want to dig back to posts from three years ago and show how Libs reacted to Conservative criticism of Chretient power to you. Pardon me for not taking you at your word for that last one. Oh, I know, if you really had a defence to fall back on you would prove what you are saying. -
The Conservative agenda and the ethnic vote
Ricki Bobbi replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My, my how I love all these glaring differences from one governing party to another. This doesn't make any sense. Garth has more access to the *secret dealings* of the PMO now that he isn't in caucus? My how I love the attacks of the Harper-haters based solely on the unproven accusations of a man who clearly has an axe to grind. -
The Conservative agenda and the ethnic vote
Ricki Bobbi replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper is a *political whore* for reaching out to minority communities? I guess the definition of a political whore is pretty fluid. If you hate somebody as much as you hate Harper it's easy to call him that. No *hard core* Conservative, or any reasonable person, would consider this unproven allegation to be the actions of a political whore. So Garth found out about this *secret* plan and posted it on his blog without any support. Hmmm, wasn't he complaining about being kicked out of caucus for briefing caucus confidentiality? Why would you trust anything this guy says? Is it anger that Harper is daring to position the Conservatives to win a majority... -
If he truly does want to take a run at the leadership next time it opens up he will probably want to get into Parliament at the next opportunity. A couple terms as an MP and oppositon critic could only help boost the resume.
-
That would be bargaining in bad faith and would likely backfire. Something does need to be done on the environment. We are so far behind our Kyoto tagets that we can't reasonably meet them. The Conservatives will come up with a reasonable plan that makes sense in 2007. If Layton really wants to go into an election on Kyoto or nothing that is a recipe for disaster...

I wonder how serious the injury to his hand is. Couldn't read the article, but if Owens plays it'll be in Dallas. I have a feeling he is going to end up finishing his career like Keyshawn Johnson. Maturity and losing a step physically will actually make him a better teammate. Any predictions for the weekend? Chicago and Baltime seem pretty safe picks. New Orleans should squeak it out over Philly. The game with the most upset potential is New England / San Diego. Tom Brady is on and I can't think of a scarier guy to face when he is...

I don't think the Liberals need to raise their profile in that riding. The Liberals have won there in every election but one (1988) since World War II. That's as safe a seat as anywhere in the country....
-
Ahh there's the rub. What is a "true Liberal" these days? Jonnygrit do you have a coupe Longueuil?
-
The rub is the NDP have suffered for supporting Liberal minority governments. They did nothing to support Diefenbaker in 62-63 and Clark in 79-80. When they did support Liberal governments they forced them to govern from the Left. This moved swing Liberal-NDP voters to the Liberals. There aren't many swing Conservative-NDP voters. I'm shocked Robin Sears doesn't buy Layton's plan on this one...

Cut the main network and just keep Newsworld. Then run it on the PBS model. Pledge drives and all.... Then those people who think its important to have a channel that isn't a corporate shill can put their money where their mouth is. The CBC could still get some funding from the Feds. Then we could easily save $900 million or so in Federal spending annually.

Other posters don't want to see us bickering. You won't respond to a fair request. So I have asked Greg to deal with it. In fairness to other posters here if you have any further comment about this feel free to PM me.

It is an attempt to lure those voters that Layton asked to "lend him" their votes in the last election. It is pretty shrewd as they are trying to present themselves as a serious option to the Liberals as *the* party of the left in Canada. Seems like those *screaming* party members are a mirror image of the Reform/Canadian Alliance who abandonded ship after the formation of the CPC. They are left clinging to their *principles* while Layton potentially postions the party for power ... Heaven forbid. Lapierre's resignation opens up the uber-safe riding of Outremont. The nomination will be fun to watch. Martin Cochon and Liza Frulla both want back into Parliament. Will Justin Trudeau be able to out organize both of them?

CBC is becoming less and less relevant in sports. It appears that the Beijing Olympics could be their last as official Canadian Broadcaster. CTV won for 2010 and 2012. They have lost curling. Their contract for the CFL is up after the coming season and it is not expected they will be able to beat out CTV/TSN. There is a very real chance they could lose Hockey Night In Canada. It would be strange to see hockey on Saturday night with a new name. So really they are left to news. Fine, cut the main network and provide a little bit of cash to Newsworld. I don't know if that is accurate. There are lot's of leftish "Ordinary Canadians" out there who support the CBC. They have no issue with tax dollars going to the CBC. After all it's the Goverment's money.
