  1. One and only seat is possible. Maclellan fluked her way in the first time around. 12 votes??? Then got re-elected due to the pork barrel goodies she brought to the city. David Kilgour kept winning because Albertans like the rebel types. I cannot think of a riding in the city that is vulnerable other than Edmonton Strathcona. Remember this is a *vulnerable* riding in Alberta terms. It wouldn't be considered vulnerable anywhere else. He won by a little less than 5,000 votes. Got a little under 42% of the vote which wins for you anywhere in the country.
  2. I completely agree that stoned driving should be treated as seriously as drunk driving. I know that some police forces have begun training their officers to detect stoned driving and this should continue. I don't buy the whole gateway drug thing for a couple reasons. Pot is so easy to get in Canada now that I don't think you would see a great increase in usage due to decriminalization or legalization. I think that if either happened people would be shocked at the number of Canadians who do smoke. I don't smoke any more for health reasons. But what's the difference between buddy who puts down a 24 over the weekend and budy smoking a couple joints over the weekend?
  3. The Liberals will never be able to do anything meaningful in the West. We are not their base and will never support the Liberals in a meaningful way. The Liberals know that and that's why they have never really tried to win the west. All though Keith Davey's "Screw the West We'll Win the Rest." campaign slogan was ignant! That is why the two biggest wins in history have been by Conservatives. Under very specific conditions the Conservatives can appeal to Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes all while holding their base in the West. Unfortunatley holding this coaltion together has proven a very tough ting to do. It is interesting that Dion made his speech at the University of Alberta. The U of A is in Edmonton-Strathcona. Undoubtedly the most leftish riding in the province. Rahim Jaffer is never really going to live down that radio stunt. Fortunately for Rahim it appears that both the NDP and Liberals are going to try and target that riding. Thus splitting the left vote their and letting Rahim slip in again...
  4. You should look at the *proof* Normie supplied to support that nose-stretcher. It is from a Web site called Marijuana News that hasn't been updated in eight months. They provide some random unattributed quote to Day. This is in comparison to Harper who isn't discussed at all...
  5. Do support that one....
  6. That original Senate report was very solid, other than the recommendations on 30 grams of pot for simple possession. The bill that was presented to Parliament was a half measure. Man, wouldn't that be interesting if the Conservatives followed the recommendations of the Senate and legalized pot...
  7. This does not imply that the SC and NDP/CCF did nothing to aid the Progressive Conservative. Just the opposite, they propped it up, until it collapsed from within. And if you have a better version of history..... Yes, Diefenbaker lost power because of the Bomarc decision and the objection withing his caucus and the Liberals. That still doesn't show your *just the opposite*. What actual steps did the NDP take to prop up the Government? Do you have even one example of an issue that the CCF supported the Government on? Even if that were true the NDP didn't help or hurt themselves by their actions in the Diefenbaker government of 62-63. They got almost exactly the same number of votes in both elections. They got 53 fewer votes NATIONALLY in 1963. That definitely disproves Spears' theory...
  8. He got *caught* giving too much of his own money to the party....
  9. That's the thing. The only people complaining about it would never even consider voting for Harper.
  10. Maybe they are upset that he hasn't risen to their level of theft?
  11. Bah! Good on you Saturn. Unfortunately far too many people claim that the looney fringe is representative of Conservative Party of Canada thinking. It is not...
  12. So the fact that everything promised is not in the Accountability Act is 100% Harper's fault despite the challenges he has faced from the oppositon and in the Senate?
  13. That's just ignorant and racist.
  14. But they get zero revenue and still have all the costs associated with law enforcement and prosecutions at the moment. They would definitley be better off having some revenue than none.
  15. I didn't know that was a prerequisite. It's not he is just being contrary. There are a lot of posters on here who say they don't identify with one party or another.
  16. I don't really seeing a big rush. In 140 years that's two drugs legalized. Who knows what will come up 50 years down the road. A legalized, regulated and taxed pot industry would be a net contributor to Government coffers. Make driving stoned as serious an offence as driving drunk.
  17. The economy is in a strange position now. Some indicators point to a recession and some point to the good times keeping on rolling on. Still tons of jobs to be had in Calgary.
  18. I think that decriminalization is really a half measure. It just makes it easier for bikers to profit of the trade in the business. Decriminalizion just doesn't make sense. It is ok for me to own something, but a punishable offence to buy it or sell it??? I favour legalization with a regulated production industry and very strict laws for large scale illegal growing operations and unlicensed vendors.
  19. Housing prices have come back to earth a little from the peak this summer. The price of oil is off, 20% or so from its peak. I can definitelty believe that some people may have over-extended themselves....
  20. My, my how I love all these glaring differences from one governing party to another. Nobody takes Garth Turner seriously. Can anybody answer the following question? Why is Garth Turner more aware of secret dealings in the PMO since being kicked out of the Conservative caucus? No order-in-council. No humour in your question.
  21. Not Found The requested URL /camp/RelsNov0205.htm was not found on this server.
  22. I would look at them with an open mind. If that source provided their source, it would at least allow for the credibility of the information to be judged.
  23. Hmmm, this phantom post exists but *I* should find it? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Methinks such a search is akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. And I guess ignoring this means you just can't do it... An example of Harper criticizing the Liberals as the Prime Minister? Don't believe you have an example of the Harper Conservative government criticizing the Liberals for cosying up to the immigrant vote.
  24. Where does this come from? The quantites involved are a big issue. An ounce of pot is still considered simple possession but that is a lot of weed. If yoiu are going to throw out stats like this please provide a link. The context to where they come from is very important....
  25. Yes, their job is our interests, not the government's. *Our* interest if *we* happen to be Liberal or NDP supporters.
