US Economy UNSTOPABLE.
Michael Hardner replied to paxamericana's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
1. Yes and no. Centrist neoliberal politics did cause the demand for immigration, globalization etc. And for sure Canada was ahead of the pack in terms of pursuing aggressive immigration numbers. But a lot of other factors are involved, and I doubt the problem would have been significantly better if Harper had stayed on. And we're speculating so.. 2. Less profit means not enough capital? 3. I will read your post.. . -

You may have inadvertently made a point though. Why were people grumbling about the economy when growth rates were high? The answer to this explains why Trump won, and why the crown sits heavily on his head. -

Utah Gender Affirming Care Study Released
Michael Hardner replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
Yes, I have come to recognize that you like to use wordplay as a substitute for substantive discussion. I find it dull so I don't engage with it. You had some points about the report, but I found it unclear: it said that children who are referred had a lower suicide rate. As I've said, I'm more concerned with the public sphere. Politicians should not put themselves above science and medicine. -

I liked that they deferred to experts in the field but it was poor leadership to veto the findings. -
This should finally put a rest to the question of whether Trudeau was good for Canada or not: https://toronto.citynews.ca/2025/07/29/justin-trudeau-katy-perry-montreal-date/ "Montreal got a dose of Hollywood sparkle this week, as former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was reportedly seen sharing a date night with pop star Katy Perry. According to TMZ, the pair stopped by Montreal restaurant, Le Violon, on Monday night to share a meal together." Eat it haters ! 😇

Small 'd' democratic... interesting. I was following up on this: "chasing an elusive version of what you do." My problem with these issues is that they're agreed upon as priorities for "the" public. I DO think that voting against what you don't want is valid. I think the Canadian case against immigration is more broadly supported. But my presence on these boards usually brings me to questions related to the public sphere. As such, I'm always kind of above the fray. Cheers...

Right, but you are one of the few here who are against Trump and supporting this person's right to free express themselves. I am more onside with you on this. In all, I think this dofus should have stayed home. He has legal recourse, ie. to sue the city of Montreal when he gets back to the states LOL. I'm sure the Quebec judge will love this guy...

EU Trade Deal

The UK situation is different though. It will be a 7.5% cut in price for UK consumers. -
EU Trade Deal

1. Not an answer. 2. Insult. Anyway, the tariff WAS 10% from what I have seen. So a 7.5% price cut is going to be a boon to the American worker ? I don't think it's going to mean much, myself. -

You think that this will have an impact? What were the tariffs on us cars before this? -

Liberal Boomers Are So Selfish
Michael Hardner replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well we're heavily invested in 6 out of 7 deadly sins as part of the basic economy. I will give wrath a pass here. You can blame the founding fathers, who demoted religion in favor of individual "pursuit of happiness". To quote Nietzsche, God is dead and we have killed him. -

The well of things to blame on Democrats is running dry. That's what it is. -
Liberal Boomers Are So Selfish
Michael Hardner replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I find that if you ask anyone about politics, no matter what their leaning is, they will come back with a straight up moral opinion. The odd thing is that politics require us to look at things from the angle of another person, at least to the degree where we allow alternate moralities to exist. So why do we have a political board? Why do these people think that they like politics? -
Liberal Boomers Are So Selfish
Michael Hardner replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This is true but... Why? Is there some idea that our problems can be fixed by criticizing moral decline? And that that moral decline is rooted in left of center politics, even if slightly? -

I know children who moved far from elderly parents, as an adult. I find that sad too. But... it's simplistic to just blame someone for such things. Moronic to attribute it to centrist politics...
