No, they were Canadian.

My grandparents were around in WW1, but worked in supply side etc. What they had back then is what we're heading towards today: families working to have food and shelter and not much more.

What's the role of other factors, like capitalism though? And I doubt women had to be "convinced" to have the rights to choose such things. I do feel that family life is a more difficult path now, being IN it and all but portraying the wandering of the Zeitgeist as a scheme doesn't fit. The deeper narrative is that religion is quickly dying, but hasn't been replaced by anything more meaningful than consumerism. We don't have a common purpose, I reckon.

MAGA is goo-goo-ga-ga for spectacle
Michael Hardner replied to Radiorum's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
When people start citing Debord, we are really close to the end of MAGA😂 -
I'm also a descendant of the "families souches". My French grandparents taught mercy and humour, and there are now 40 people in Ontario and Quebec who espouse their values. Our economic systems upturned the traditions of large families that stayed close. The impacts are pervasive and underappreciated.

Stunning Display of Trump’s Corruption
Michael Hardner replied to Radiorum's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Oh yes but Carney did much worse for Canada with his firm Waddabout that got 736M$ US. No need to cite 👎 Remember Lincoln's Crypto currency? Yes, corruption is normal and Biden... -
Yes the team knows what the leadership denies.

Back on pg 23 I noted that since the government didn't fall 'in a matter of weeks' we were going to open a pool on how long this thread would go on. SO MUCH response... But sadly, now that we're on page 32... we only have two folks left in the pool... And since the pool only went up to 10, we will return the money if/when we get past 10 pages...

You might want to ask why someone wants to single out one factor, namely religion, as the reason people are left behind and backwards. Nothing to do with military, economic storyline. It's like when a Muslim commits a crime, they want to associate that to the religion because it's a key marker of difference to them. If a Christian commits a crime, it's like... Man with brown hair commits crime... I.E. The religion of the perpetrator is meaningless because he's like us.

There are wealthy layabouts The point is to expunge narratives, personas, stereotypes and take a systems view when looking at our political economy. Is it working? Are the wealthy investing in things that provide Mutual benefit? Is there incentive to work and improve oneself? I feel that in this great poker game, many people are throwing in their cards lately.

You are up close with the dichotomy of democracy that Aristotle and Plato even struggled with 2500 years ago: A ship that is guided by a mob rather than a captain will eventually run ashore and yet, if you give a captain sole ownership of the rudder you will fail even more frequently. The moib now has become the Khmer Rouge - anyone who has a whiff of intellectualism or academia about them is a traitor to these people. This means we'll be guided by Captain Crunches instead of Horatio Helsons. Fake horatios abound and even very intelligent folks are swayed by them.

Focusing on individual crimes is anti-system thinking, since we could be seeing huge drops in crime rates due to effective programs and yet a single egregious incident would cast doubt on how well we're doing. If we could get people to focus on the big picture, and de-focus on emotional responses to every single thing then we would get further ahead.
