Canadian Sovereignty and the Queen
jdobbin replied to Riverwind's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think the cost argument is legitimate - we would have to pay for a head of state no matter what. We already had a link that compared head of state costs a couple of weeks ago. Canada's costs are lower than other countries who have removed a royal in favour of a republic. -

Perhaps the Conservatives will arrest him. -
Please show a link that says that this is case.

The CBC and CTV showed him in the middle of it. First I've seen of him since he came back to Canada from his home in France. -
I don't know why the other link won't work but this is the main Yahoo page. Try this: http://news.yahoo.com/i/533;_ylt=AlovZFeVh...WtkBHNlYwM3MTg-

The one Khadr you are talking about was not involved in the conflict unlike his brother (according to the U.S. which has not presented its case yet). And this isn't about one upping on racism and intolerance. The point was that it is happening to many people not related to the conflict at all.

We left Cyprus because it meant nothing to us and helped little in securing a lasting peace.

Exactly. There wasn't anything to report on massive government polling. You said there was and I said the watchdogs found no evidence of it or they would hsve reported it. A majority of Canadians supported action in Iraq. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4286073.stm Australia initially had 2000 in the country. They have placed troops back in the country but mostly in Southern Iraq where they protect Japanese who are safely out of harrm's way rebuilding infrastucture.

Yes, they will be focused on more than just the war. They'll focus on the gun law, they'll focus on gay marriage, they'll focus on equalization. These issues will win more votes in the Alberta heartland but lose votes where he needs them the most...Quebec and the Martimes.

And then there were the Islamic Canadians who were arrested following September 11, illegally extradited to the United States and released because they were not guilty of anything. There have been quite a few cases of this. It is easy to dismiss but it has been happening fairly regularly.

Many Christians still find that the passage smacks of anti-Semtism and don't use it in their churches even if the lesson is about deception and rebellion.

Certainly, under the freedom of information act, anyone, including the taxpayer lobby could find evidence of massive polling to find out how much was spent on polling regarding a fight in Iraq. There wasn't anything revealed of that nature. And if you recall what the privately funded polls were saying, they said a majority of Canadians were supportive of removing Saddam. There were some doubts in Canada regarding the speed of the attack given that the U.N. was there, but generally Colin Powell's speach in the U.N. impressed Canadians. The Australians lost two soldiers in the initial attack and were one of the first countries to leave because their soldiers were needed for various Pacific peacekeeping missions. They have not been there for the insurgency where the majority of the killing has taken place. If Harper had been in power, Canada would have been in Iraq and I doubt we would have gotten out earlier than the Australians.

I don't think anyone suggests we don't stand with our troops. They're doing amazing work there. But the drug trade is funding a renewed insurgency that threatens to fuel the insurgency for years to come. Only Afghansiatn can assert authority over their own people in the end. We can help as much as we can but we could be there for years and years with nothing to show for it.
-
Nixon was able to leave Vietnam, Reagan was able to leave Lebanon and Clinton was able to leave Somalia (Canada too in this case). In the end, Canada will have to assess whether we add to the insurgency or are helping to eliminate it.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

We'll probably be keeping her as head of state for some time considering that opening the constitution is never an eay task. Have you gotten tired of battling the native activists yet? They'll just keep repeating the same stuff as if they'll convince you or others of their case. I don't know why they bother. If Canada doesn't matter, what bring it up in a Canadain poltical forum? -
I don't know that much about New Brunswick politics except to know that last Federal election, the Conservatives were trying to recruit Lord. He might have done better if he had made the jump back then.

There are other passages in the New Testament that could get someone into trouble if you praticed them in real life. I was just curious which ones you practice and which ones you don't.
-
However, the New Testament suggests that is especially Jews.

That is how many ships destroyed: http://www.usmm.org/ww2.html Fishing and coastlines were all but destroyed in many places around the globe in World War 2. Lebanon will take many years to recover environmentally even if things ended today. Israel's damage will be decades long. Very sad.
-
What does that passage mean to you and how do you practice it in life?

Is Lord in trouble?

Canadian Soldiers In Afghanistan

Actually, two days ago they had something like this on the CBC where an ambush took place. Wasn't as long as that but showed how intense the battle was. Pretty scary stuff though from this video.
