Aboriginals/First Nations in Canada
jdobbin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The more radical elements will ensure someone will be killed. But perhaps that is what is wanted all along. -

I think if you read the links more closely, you will find that there was a comittment to do no harm to one another and to work together. There was also a committment to fight back the more radical claims of the Oneida Wisconsin. -
Six Nations Crisis- “Canada’s Pandora’s Box?”
jdobbin replied to NativeCharm's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Stop yelling at me. I've never argued against the treaties. I've argued against intimidation and threats. -
Thanks goodness they were able to stop this in time. I hope further details will come out as to the who and why of this.

Six Nations Crisis- “Canada’s Pandora’s Box?”
jdobbin replied to NativeCharm's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly. Why can't the northern Six Nations act more in accordance with the southern Six Nations? Fear and anger is no way to negotiate. -
Are you saying there are some consistent blow hards in Alberta? <heh>

Considering that everyone was saying he would win the nomination, I think saying that he will win as an independent is overly optimistic. 60% of Americans oppose the war. Lieberman is for the war. I think the people of the state think that Lieberman will not change his view even if a civil war is happening in Iraq.

Six Nations Crisis- “Canada’s Pandora’s Box?”

Those links show various Native groups against one another on policy. Overall though, southern Six Nations representatives have been very much better at working with New York and the federal government. -

Aboriginals/First Nations in Canada

I can understand the anger at hooligans on both sides. All they do is raise the temperature. However, an injunction would have had the desired effect on stopping construction. The Six Nations have the government's attention. There is probably no reason for them to stand in a muddy field to trade insults with people who are inflamed already. Momentum to deal with Native issues take a step backwards with confrontations that end violently. -

I like that they say they want to be a "good neighbor." Where is that attitude north of the border? -
Most procurement experts, military or otherwise, have been commenting in both national newspapers saying that the loophole could add to the costs and be technically inferior. The Bristol Aerospace case in Winnipeg haunted the Conservatives for decades. It's best not to screw around with the law in this case. It is political fire for the Conservatives.

It seems to me that a court injunction could have stopped the zoning and construction outside Caledonia. No need for protesters at all since the law is firmly on the side of someone who uses the law to make their case. The southern Six Nations don't want to chase the people of Syacuse away. As the article says, they want to use the law to enforce environmental controls over the area and to buy back land within Syracuse for their people. No evictions. No threats. Just the law and a sound plan. -
Will I be able to buy an American state cheap? I'll settle for a stealth fighter though.

As of Wednesday, Israeli casualties in the conflict stand at 105 dead, including 38 civilians, and more than 700 wounded, according to the IDF. Lebanese security forces said that 827 people have died, most of them civilians, and more than 3,200 have been wounded. The fighting is becoming more relentless today and there are a lot more people at risk due to lack of supplies.

Just a hunch...maybe theres no corporation trying to develop in that area. Or maybe its not land that contains artifacts. If you find out, please let me know. Curiouser. http://www.onondaganation.org/news.hugeclaim.html It seems that this an approach that might actually be workable and not displace or hurt people. -
Six Nations Crisis- “Canada’s Pandora’s Box?”

I think you know who we are talking about. Basically anyone who might be supportive is re-buffed and criticized for being Canadian with an explanation that only harm can come from non-Natives. -

We keep hearing they don't need not want our support. So why do they come here? -

Why is the Six Nations not doing blockades in the U.S. as they try to lay claim to Syracuse? -
Six Nations Crisis- “Canada’s Pandora’s Box?”

It's hard to understand why someone who just wants to be left alone doesn't just leave this forum alone. What's the point? You don't require nor need our support. Why try and convince anyone here about your argument? Why not move along? -
No one would accept this policy from any other political party. Why use a sneaky "national security" loophole? What is the national security issue? That Alberta gets a contract over Manitoba?
-
How is the land claim of the Six Nations being handled differently in New York? All of Syracuse is being claimed. Why no blockades there?
-
Will Iraq be the deciding factor given that 60% of Americans are now opposed to the war? Lieberman went down in flames because of it. Clinton has changed her stategy. Will other Congressmen and Senators run on the war or run away from it?
