Harper runs the country like a king
mikedavid00 replied to Saturn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah, we just did over a decade of hard time under the Liberals and it will take us at least two terms to recover. But those who hold the reins of power will not go quietly. This idea of changing the Senate is a good shart, though, and guess who's spearheading it? The Tories. I totally agree. I can't understand why people would support Dion and the Liberals. Even if you like social services, the Conservatives have given more cash directly to families... I just don't get it. -
Belinda taking shots at own party
mikedavid00 replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's his party memebers that didn't support him during the convention. Supposedly he's not open to new ideas and only wants things to be seen his way. He's supposeldy difficult to work with. That's the rumors I heard. I agree. It's very good she is trying to do the right thing. But don't think it's not eventually for her own self interest. I do think those delegates deservce the blame. The who system is corrupt in it's current form. -
Mulroney says: "It's the environment, stupid!"
mikedavid00 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For the moment however - given low nominal interest rates, high real interest rates, rising stock market prices, falling unemployment rates - parents and grandparents are thinking of children and grandchildren. For the moment, the environment matters and Harper has an Ace up his sleeve. Harper delivers. Dion doesn't. True. I can assure anyone that people don't care about what they don't understand. What voters DO understand is that they recieved a $100 cheque in the mail each month to help out with their family. The do know that when the go the checkout they save money and will save more. The media does a really poor job at explaining Kyoto and environment issues. Pseudo intellectuals are the ones who love to talk about the environment. -
Poll: Should We Have A Referendum On Same-Sex Marriage?
mikedavid00 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'd call allowing religion to determine social norms to be even more of a non democratic dictatorship. I'd rather have a judicial decision than one based on the irrational belief in mythical sky beings. How about the PEOPLE dictate what THEIR countries climate and morals be? That's the farest thing I think. And yes, most Canadians are probably willing to say that marriage includes gays. I don't go to church. But I am a person who beleives in religion. The 10 commandments are the cornerstone of my personal ethics (although I probably can't name all the commandments). The sanctity of marriage includes that. However, I do support gay marriage as long as it's not used for immigration purposes. If not, then I don't support it. But that's just my opinion. Everyone should vote on this. When I get married, I am not going to get married in a church and it will not be a Christian wedding. I'm Trudeaus dream in my personal life. I feel like I'm the only openly democratic person on this forum. -
Belinda taking shots at own party
mikedavid00 replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion very well might. In fighting under Martin got really ugly and was bad publicity for the party. It's something I don't think any first world nation has seen before in modern history "I dare him to fire me. He doesn't have the balls". That was just unprofessional and low class. Martin's caucus started acting like children. I don't think Dion is a very friendly or approachable guy. I think Belinda had better watch herself. It is a good idea to stop the internall corruption at these conventions. The CPC use the best stytem. They use a 1 member 1 vote system with an electory collage. Basically one big city can't control the vote. This is how the US system works. NOTE that some polls showed higher support for Belinda when she was running against Harper. That's how well she does poltically. She didn't run because she said this was more important to reform the system and make it democratic. She was right. She also said: "i'm not here to make friends". She's too smart to be able to go against the establishment. Rae coulnd't do it. Ignatieff the front runner couldn't do it. Now I doubt she'll be leader because the old establishment behind the scenese wont back her. She almost won her 1 member 1 vote idea. It was so close. You should have seen the look on her face when she lost. She was basically trying to ask the privilaged, at the convention, if they should open up voting outside the convention. It's the fair democratic thing to do for the party members. Nope. The privilaged couldn't let go and be fair to all the party members. Thats the Liberals for ya. -
Duceppe threatens to topple Harper government
mikedavid00 replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You mean the extension that the majority of Liberals voted for? Harper gets an F grade for explaining the milatary mission. Hell, Martin didn't even put it to a vote. He just sent everyone out dictator style. One day I woke up and heard on the radio that Martin sent troops to Afganistan. I couldn't beleive it. -
Duceppe threatens to topple Harper government
mikedavid00 replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree. Dion has not been giving a firm stance on anything. Canadians seem to like that though. And I hear something about a 'volunteer army'.. what is that? -
Sounds fair but what powers would they have? They can just be the liason between the Premier and Federal gov't regarding legislation. Or htey can just recommend revisions to legislation so that it agrees with their represented province.
-
If you think about it, only 1 is really required. It's only a senator of a province. The US is much different when it comes to state powers vs. provincial powers. Also keep in mind that our senators are natorious for not showing up to work and cost us a lot of money for them to pretty much do nothing. It's basically a job for friends of politicians. I feel they could work more closely with each other and something useful might come out of it. We should be able to elect in our senator. For instance, we elect our premier and senator during the same time. But this non democratic way of doing things has got to stop in this country.

Poll: Should We Have A Referendum On Same-Sex Marriage?
mikedavid00 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So it's up to a judge or partisan politics to determin the social norms of our society? That's what I call a non democratic dictatoriship. -
I agree. How about one elected senator from Each province... or would that be 'too American' for everyone? (actually I think each state gets 2 senators)

Belinda is trying her best to reach the top of the Liberal party and will use any means necessary. She tried to head the 1 member, 1 vote system which would allow the Libearl leadship to be decided upon by all Libearl members. Belinda knows that she scores very high in polls and the media loves her. She's smart. She knows she can't fight the insiders behind the scenes at the concention. She lost her 1 member, 1 vote innitiative. So to build her power, she's heading the Liberal womens caucus. And to further stereo-type women, releases a 'pink book'. Nice one Belinda. She made these comment regarding her own Liberal party: "Remember the Red Book?" she asked, in reference to Liberal campaign platforms she said were never fully honoured. She said women may be barefoot and pregnant under the Conservatives, but they remained too poor to pay for rent and feed their children during 13 years of Liberal governments that cut employment insurance, refused to standardize the minimum wage and did little to address child poverty. Ouch. That doesn't sound like a team player. Her latest was questioning Dion's dual citizenship. Watch how she compares herself to Dion: Belinda Stronach is developing quite the track record of undermining her party leaders. After only three days, Stronach is already questioning her new leader.: The facts: Stronach is questioning Liberal Leader Stephane Dion being a dual-citizen, suggesting that he should give up the dual-citizenship: “I don’t have dual citizenship, but I think he has to seriously consider that.” (CTV News, December 5, 2006) After only three days, Stronach is already trying to undermine her new leader and questioning his decisions – quite possibly a record After Dion loses the next election, it will be very fun to see Belinda work on trying to overthrow their leader. Sad thing is, I think people are going to back her.

I agree totally.

• Global temperatures have declined since 1998, in direct contradiction to computer models on which Kyoto is based. These models are unreliable as forecasters of future conditions. • Ice core records show temperature rises before CO2 rises, not as a result of it. • Evidence mounts that pre-industrial levels of CO2 may have been much higher than the 280 parts per million (ppm) assumed by environmentalists. • Modern research shows changes in output of the sun accounts for most of the recent warming and cooling of our planet. • The primary evidence of human influence on global climate, the "hockey stick" temperature graph of Michael Mann, has been debunked as manipulated and wrong.

Same-sex motion defeated by wide margin

Well it's not equality what they are doing. Especially the age part. BC has real equality it seems when it comes to auto insurance. -
Same-sex motion defeated by wide margin
mikedavid00 replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The supreme court judge ruled on it and it was never voted on. Then it was voted on which was kind of close to the right thing to do. It's our country and we the people should determine whether we want our country to call 'marriage' the union of 2 men. You've been brainwashed and dictated to for far too long to understand the greater meaning of this. Take a look at real democracy and tell me if you don't feel we should be able to do the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UnhY_VPXT8&NR http://yeson85.net/ -

Yeah true. My fiance drivers her car mainly to work and stuff and my car is the main car that we do all our night/weekend and traveling with. -
Well no one wants to face the fact that we are in a social services crisis. No one realises that we don't have enough money to fix our own healthcare system. A poltician is not about to tell you all this. People have been engireered in Canada to look up to a dictator that will solve problems. This has been proven not to work. Canada has not always been a social country. The 1970's and onward was the birth of social engineering and it's fooled everyone here. Facts are, we are spending at our limits right now and are not able to provide pensions or healthcare for our seniors. Canada has also become politically currupt. We have a disfunctional parlimentary style of gov't which is proving more than ever not to work. Our politicians are not about having policy to fix these problems, but rather getting elected and staying in power. The Liberal party is the most succsful political franchis in modern history of first world countries. This is actually a BAD thing because when this happens it leans to a dictorship style of gov't. We are at our limits now. Reports have just come out saying that Canada is lagging behind the rest of the world in growth. We will lose our G8 status if somethhing isn't done. So much for immigration eh? We let in millions of people and we aren't growing as compared to other country who let in not even a fraction of people per capita. Why? Because *modern* immigration is not working. It's not functioning and it doesn't work. A point system is something almost NO other country does. Thus, we are getting people who are coming not to open business and hire Canadians (like my grandfather did), but we are letting in people who are primamary interested in living an easy life with social services and healthcare. As long as these people vote Liberal, they believe they will keep coming into Canada. Then suprise suprise, before the last election Volpe wanted to increase the number to 500,000 people.. and.. guess what.. try to figure out a way to get them to settle in other provinces like? Like where? Like... wait for it.. ALBERTA! Gee I WONDER WHY? This sort of political corruption is killing us. This country can't be about Trudeau. His dreams and hopes is that of idealisms - not reality. And each one of you are fooled. Our net is full and it's about to burst. Make no mistake. If they get back in power, I see a 12% GST because we'll have to spend so much on the environment and other social services. I see terrorism, I see an 'Alberta tax' that will basically tax oil refiners in the name of 'emmisions'. I see the Liberals getting elected and re-ellected and Alberat getting *swamped* with immigrants that will vote Liberal. Or, Alberta seperation will become a topic again and they may hold a refurendum becuase people are losing their houses, jobs, cars, and livelyhood. I see our dollar value plumeting. I see Belinda trying to take over power in the liberal party. And I see univeral childcare which will cost us so much we'll need to be taxed even more. You have to understand, Chretien made the largest cuts to transfer payments in history. This is beyond conservative principles. He forced the provinces to close hospitals. But the dude was fiscally responsible. Martin owned a business, he understood how to balance books and manage money. Now we're talking about Ignatieff, Dion, and other non experienced intillectuals who are driven off 'idealisms' and are not in the reality that Martin was in. Chretien and Martin were smart, they were a do nothing gov't that were able to balance the books. Dion, Volpe, Ignatieff and the other clowns are NOT of this breed. That's why I think it will be a disaster. Again, people from Calgary and Edmonton need to know crystal clear, that if they Liberals are elected, they WILL be seing possibly TEN THOUSAND immigrants and refugees entering into Calgary each month. ** In 5 years, they will not recognize their own province. And guess what, Alberta will slowely but surely become Libearl. Suprise Suprise. This is NOT a healthy way to govern a country and will lead to our destruction. (** Refers to a program that was talked about where immigrants would be processed faster if they agreed to settle in other provinces. Alberta/Sask was at the top of the list.)

I never said it's perfect. No Islamic country in existance is perfect. But it's NOT the most hardcore of the bunch. It's probably at the bottom scale of tolorent Islmaic countries considering you can get alchohol and women can model with tight clothing. In Pakistan the red cross workers were not allowed to do charity work because the women were wearing shorts to their knees. Your missing the bigger picture though. I don't give a damn about the human rights in Syria or Samolia or anywhere else. That's their problem. We have our own problems. Now there problems, are become OUR problems. My interest is Canada and the US. I just want the poeple to stop claiming refugee status in Canada. They are lying to get in here and it's got to stop because we're being taken advantage of.
-
Yes, and Arar gave them information on the Muslim Brotherhood funders in Ottawa. I never said it was a great place, all second and third world countries are garbage IMO. Syria is a very liberal country compared to Pakistan, Bangledesh, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. It's not a war torn country filled with refugees that need to flee the country.

A judge is taking that away from me. And the gays can have all the rights and also say that they are married when they get their civil union certificate. Maybe the people who own the country do not want this to be labeled 'marriage'? We'll never know unless we all vote on this and direct the path of our country. I definately don't want someone's 'vision' dictating this upon us. That's the problem with Canada - it's a dictatorship, not a democracy. The senate is an issue for all of us. I do believe we need reform. Again, this needs to be put to a vote amongst the people. -
Wow you just don't get the concept of democrocy do you?
-
I agree.
-
God yes. Trust me. The immigrants and Syrians will tell you themselves. I'm still waiting for my old Syrian co-worker to logon so I can show you what he says about Arar. He's like 'He's a liar.. a piece of sh**' That's a Syrian speaking. He also said that Syria is very liberal and you are allowed to dink and do anyhting as long as you claim to be Christian. I've heard all the stories from Syria. Syria supposeldy strives to be the US of the middle east. If you don't think Syria is liberal for an Arab country, look here: http://www.syriantopmodels.com/women/index.php Beleive me, people claiming refugee status from Syria or Lebannon when there is no war goign on are lying just to take advantage or ou lax refugee polity.
