  1. Yep, I knew that. I was talking about college sports where universities profit millions and kids are only good while they produce. Maybe you aren't aware of the difference between professional and amateur sports. Maybe you didn't know that March Madness is an amateur tournament. I guess you have just proved that you lack critical thinking skills. Nice try and trying to be relevant.
  2. I don't care about basketball. I care about social justice. Why don't you read the interview I provided and educate yourself on the subject. Look beyond your preconceived notions.
  3. Public education in the USA is being severely attacked by neo-liberals and people like the Koch brothers. There is a concerted effort in the USA to reduce the role of public schools while trying to privatize education. Right wingers in Wisconsin are trying to do just that. Canadians are more level headed than Americans, so I hope all Canadians can see past the anti-union, neoliberal, right wing fanatics who care only about profits. We need to care about our children. Wake up! Let's not let Canadian public education go the way of the declining American system. WAKE UP!! http://inthesetimes.com/working/entry/17632/democratic_teachers_unions
  4. Educators must empower their students to be active participants in their worlds to enact positive social change.

I stand corrected. See I can admit when I am wrong. That is what I learned with my boring old education.

You don't know the difference betwen then andthan and you want to criticize me?

  5. College basketball/football exploits and makes millions off the players. And if the players don't pan out or get hurt they are thrown to the curb. All is fine as long as these kids produce. Universities make millions off them and the athletes are exploited. I'm concerned with social justice. Many excellent young teachers care about social justice. Here is a great example. I hope you finally can learn what teaching for social justice is all about, ash. http://thewandereronline.com/democratizing-education-an-interview-with-dan-scratch-by-claire-edwards/
  6. i KNOW YOU DON'T. But I do.
  7. I think we have them fooled, ash.
  8. Your post is a good reminder of how neo-liberalism is destroying society. It's all about profits at anyone's expense. It's too bad that the non-thinkers are more concerned with acceptable oppression in the form of a silly tournament called March Madness than in the plight of their fellow human beings. People are asleep and have been asleep for a long time. This forum is a perfect example. People wasting their lives arguing back and forth, while contributing nothing useful to society. We have been manipulated to think how they want us to think. Wake up!
  9. A Liberal/NDP coalition government would be fine in my books?

I have argued with you on just about everything but never your grammar. I have even defended you over it. But yeah they have a point this time. Had you just said ooops that would have been the end of it.

Tell us all again about what a fine educator you are. The students must love that comment. I am sure you are having a wonderful time with the parents. If you know you were actually a teacher

  10. Yes, and he's being disingenuous. Premier Wynne has great respect for public education. She understands the vital role public education plays in maintaining a healthy democracy. I've heard that talks between the government and the teachers' unions are going very smoothly. Leaf is simply grandstanding with misinformation.
  11. Your post is complete nonsense. The Wynne government has no intentions of firing teachers. You are just stirring the pot with fairy tales. We had a good laugh about it though.
  12. It won't happen, Lemon. I know that for a fact.
  13. Teachers are teacher unions/associations/federations/societies/.
  14. Sorry. That was meant for resident teacher-basher, ash.
  15. I don't see to many lazy teachers. A majority put in 12 hours a day, every day.
  16. Many older teachers aren't trained on 21st Century Skills. They want to do things the old way with paper and pencils (YAWN) We are living in the age of ever changing technology. 21st Century Learning is preparing kids for jobs that don't even exist yet. Young teachers, like myself, understand this.
  17. The twitter hashtag for the BCTF AGM is #bctf2015. Some of you would get an eye opener if you followed this hashtag. Educators fight for everyone's rights, especially the vulnerable children who have to deal with poverty. You will see dedicated educators fighting for democracy. Why cut taxes to favour the richest 2% while letting public education crumble? Anyone else see the obvious agenda at play here?
  18. The BCTF AGM is currently under way. Teachers in BC continue to fight for learners in the province. Educators from across BC gather at to collectively plot a course forward. There was a standing ovation for Jim Iker's president's report. There is very strong support and sense of unity in the room around struggles in BC. This battle against this government is not even close to being over. Also, many schools in BC need seismic upgrades but the government is too busy giving tax cuts to their rich buddies. jim Iker is also encouraging all members to look after their mental health. Due to unrealistic demands and chronic under-funding, many teachers are beginning to suffer mentally. BC teachers are encouraged to access starlingminds.com. Jim Iker also asked why the people of BC are paying tax dollars to subsidize elite private schools. If parents choose elite private schools, they should pay, not expect a subsidy. Iker says BC teachers have a lot to be proud of. They saved close to 400 teaching positions through their negotiated education fund. I don't understand why a government would underfund public education. A well educated society commits less crime, contributes more to society and pays more taxes so why underfund public ed? Why this governemtn has it in for educators and kids is beyond me. This is a serious issue in BC, and it will seep across Canada if we aren't careful. Public sector unions are under attack, and the BCTF is standing up for democracy and children. http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/news/local-news/school-board-opposes-funding-cut-1.1781441 14 retweets10 favorites Reply Retweet14 Favorite10 More
  19. http://www.edmontonsun.com/2015/03/14/ndp-concerned-continued-attacks-on-teachers-will-drive-people-away-from-profession This article really hits home for me. I know the attacks against educators is becoming more common, and this forum prove this to be true. Educators have thick skins, but people can only take so much before they begin to crack. I know many teachers who work 18 hour days, teaching and coaching kids, while running clubs, preparing lessons, and marking assignments. I think some people need to put away their ignorance and realize how difficult it is to teach in this day and age. The public sector, and especially teachers are under attack. We will continue to fight for worker rights and democracy.
  20. Pres. of OSSTF says time is now for teachers union to speak in unified voice. Patience has run out and that their work matters.

Yes but the very first thing that is mentioned is the pay freeze. If you want a raise say so. After this long I would vote for teachers to gt one. But to say it is for the students. Sorry ain't that drunk yet

  21. Guyser exemplifies the point I just made. He throws out a random comment without any merit. His antics are the kind that bring a solid forum down, adding absolutely nothing of use to a discussion.
  22. I want to see an open forum that allows all to give their thoughts and opinions without being labelled by those who have nothing better to do.
  23. I am an educator? Now, are you a scientist by profession?
  24. I like reading a wide range of views, even those I vehemently disagree with. I have no problem with a member like Bush/Cheney. Some want him banned. Why? I'd much rather have the opportunity to put him in his place than cry and beg for him to be banned. What I dislike the most of this forum is the persistent whiners who feel they are the world's gift to an internet forum? I also dislike the whiners who have nothing better to do than to accuse members of having multiple accounts. They never provide any proof.
