  1. I have never heard of teachers answering text messages in class unless they were expecting texts from a parent. Parents use texts to communicate with teachers in the 21st century. Maybe you are unaware, but the 1960s are over. Also, what is your definition of "new" math. You just hear terms from teacher bashers and then pretend to be an expert. We can all make anecdotal statements. I';m in the trenches and witness everyday the professionalism and dedication of teachers. Some people have nothing better to do with their time so they become teacher bashing trolls.
  2. Jacee, I have seen none of this. I see dedicated professionals being forced to deal with more and more each day.
  3. Please describe the way the "new kids" are teaching. What in the world does that mean? You probably think sitting at a desk, not collaborating, and doing long division worksheets is a good use of time.
  4. Anyone dumb enough to believe teachers go to an Irish pub or go golfing on ProD days is delusional. Fairy tales are entertaining.
  5. Too bad you can't open your mind and realize that teachers care about all kids. Maybe this will help you see the light. http://www.smh.com.au/world/i-wish-my-teacher-knew-teachers-third-grade-assignment-goes-viral-online-20150419-1mo7gw.html?eid=socialn%3Afac-13omn1676-edtrl-other%3Annn-17%2F02%2F2014-edtrs_socialshare-all-nnn-nnn-vars-o
  6. Do you want to go back to working 7 days a week under terrible conditions for $5/hour? Didn't think so. Maybe you should be thankful for what unions have accomplished for the lower and middle classes. But I guess you support the 1%.
  7. Lots of rural areas don't have private schools in the vicinity. Private schools often inflate marks to please parents who pay a lot of money for artificial marks. Many think private schools are better, but they are not.
  8. Similar to my brothers and sisters in BC, we have to fight for learners in this province. Would you be in favour of the government increasing class sizes to the degree that your child is now getting hurt because there isn't enough supervision? Or your child's grades suffer because the teacher just doesn't have the same amount of time to spend with each student as once was possible? Or the teacher says that s/he can't meet with you after school hours since that is outside his/her working day? Spend some time in a public school. Choose a kindergarten classroom where there are 4 or more children with high behavioural needs that have to be watched closely so they don't take off or hurt someone, three or more that are still not 100% toilet trained and need frequent reminders and 3 that don't speak English. Now imagine 10% more children in that classroom and possibly fewer adults to support the classroom and keep everyone safe and learning. Now imagine your child in that classroom and tell teachers they have no right to strike.
  9. Based on what? Some useless standardized test where learners fill in bubbles? It's easy to identify those who know nothing about education.
  10. Manitoba does not have the worst outcomes. But if they did, maybe it's because of the high rate of child poverty in that province.
  11. being a teacher basher doesn't mean anything. You supposedly see stuff everyday yet you still send your kids to school. Something strange there buddy boy.
  12. You have absolutely no evidence to back up the ridiculous claims you make.
  13. Research shows that an increasing number of Ontario Residents are very pleased with the job public schools are doing educating learners.

So they went from 1 "very pleased" taxpayer to 2? Why, that's a 100% increase! Or is it a 200% increase? Damn discovery math...

Over 90 % are very pleased. I guess stats aren't your forte. (for-tay)

Were these the residents who went through Ontario schools and couldn't read the questions?

  14. How can you get rid of teachers. You can't educate without human interaction.
  15. This is an interesting topic, and one that I've wrestled with for quite some time. The public education system has made it a priority to teach critical thinking as part of 21st century learning. Public schools are leading the way in educating youth to think critically. We are teaching them that you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Modern history textbooks deal more with feelings and how things were allowed to happen over the boring process of memorizing dates and names. I think in the next 10 to 20 years we will see a population that is much more critically engaged than the current baby boomer generation. I find that digital citizens are much better critical thinkers because the public education system is focusing on critical thinking along with collaboration.
  16. I strongly support the removal of tests and exams in schools. and I am pleased that this may soon be a reality. Leading educators know that tests and exams do nothing but cause anxiety and stress. This is education for the 21st century. http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/the-death-of-the-exam-canada-is-at-the-leading-edge-of-killing-the-final-for-good
  17. And I suppose you think Delmart Vreeland's note was legitimate.

What really bothers the left is the right wasting tax dollars for nothing more than greasing up their base to keep their votes.

Everything you post says you want the state controlling every aspect of our lives. I could not disagree more

  18. So would you agree that in the history of science, ideas that started out as pseudoscientific may eventually become properly scientific such as the transformation of alchemy into chemistry?
  19. Mighty AC< which books on the history and philosophy of science have you read?
  20. I'm trying to learn from you, GH. Do you think that by simply understanding the scientific method that you are qualified to assess whether something is or isn't properly part of science?
  21. Do you feel you are qualified to assess whether something is or is not properly a part of science?
  22. I don't know if it's right that your wife and her colleagues were in the staff room laughing at a student. We need to respect all students. Adults laughing at a kid is low. Your wife should be embarrassed for her unprofessional conduct. Maybe your wife suffers from insecurity so she felt the need to garner laughs at the expense of one of her students. It's teachers like your wife that I have no use for.
  23. Aren't universities suppose to teach a respect for diversity and tolerance? Rex Murphy doesn't understand. http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/03/27/rex-murphy-the-modern-university-risks-becoming-a-cocoon-of-self-indulgence-and-anti-intellectualism/
