  3. https://educhatter.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/the-international-teaching-summit-2015-have-the-pisa-testers-gone-soft/#comments Are you learning about 21st century learning?
  4. GH, are you a scientist.
  5. Are you a scientist?
  6. Do you feel ID is religion masquerading as a science?
  7. Thanks Mighty AC. You are very knowledgeable, and even though I've given you a hard time in the past, I respect your opinions. So would you basically characterize ID as a pseudo science?
  8. On my journey as a life long learner, I continue to tackle subjects that I need to learn more about. I am an evolutionist, but is it possible that ID could also be plausible? I'm sure many members here don't think ID is possible. So let me ask: Is it fair to say that ID is not a part of science?
  9. Hey bud, "thier" is actually spelled "their". "Ressults" only has one s. Who are the idiots again?
  10. I'm tired of trying to figure out what you are trying to say. SImply put, on educational topics, you are grossly misinformed. I've wasted to much time responding to your nonsense.
  11. I am shaped by the many Professional Development conferences I have attended over the years. Conferences given by educators. You haven;t had any ProD so you don't understand the modern school system. I find it hard debating with relics.
  12. Academics simply isn't the main focus anymore. We teach about the environment, diversity, tolerance, digital literacy, cyber safety, sex education, citizenship, art, inclusion. We are required, by provincial guidelines, to teach about 300 minutes of math a week. There are more important things.
  13. Now we're talking about exhaust fumes? I don't agree that it smells better than tobacco. Just because you can't go a day without getting high doesn't men everyone has to be in favor of it.
  14. I am an advocate of the public school system and feel that public schooling is vastly superior to homeschooling. People have to remember that public school is much more than just academics. Kids interact with all kinds of different kids, learning diversity and to tolerate differences. Kids in public schools learn to accept all others as equals. I really wish people like Guyser and Mighty AC would think before they post. Homeschooling isn't all bad. In fact we I was told by a university math professor, that academically, many homeschool kids who enter university are better prepared. But I am also quite sure that they are socially awkward. If you want your kids to have well rounded social/life schools, then public schools are the best option. If your focus is strictly academic, then yes, homeschooling can be better. But we all know academics aren't the be all to end all in the 21st century.
  15. I am talking about school aged kids. We are preparing them for jobs that don't yet exist. It's called 21st century skills. Many haven't heard of it. http://21stcenturyskillsbook.com/wp-content/uploads/21stCS_excerpt.pdf
  16. We are preparing kids for jobs that don't yet exist. You have some learning to do on the subject. Here. educate yourself. http://teachingandlearninginhighered.org/2013/07/15/preparing-students-for-what-we-cant-prepare-them-for/
  17. Working with kids is much different than working with the people you work with. I'm beginning to wonder if you truly understand.
  18. Exactly. Educators are now facilitators. I don't need to be a math expert to teach math. I don't need to be a history expert to teach history. We guide kids to seek an understanding concepts on their own. We facilitate learning. We don't dictate learning. Many relics fail to understand this.
  19. Who is using kids as guinea pigs? New techniques proven by research are helping kids. Think before you post please.
  20. I don't smoke cigarettes. I don't smoke anything, I would ban cigarettes if I could. Do you think there is any harm in people breathing second hand marijuana smoke?
  21. I've been to many conferences over the years and I read many educational research papers. I am a life long learner. You haven't even heard of many educational initiatives. I would put you into the camp with other educational relics; stuck in the past, unaware that we are living in the 21st century. We are preparing kids for jobs that don't yet exist. Does that make sense to you?
  22. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone mentioned the PISA tests. I'm certain you know very little about the PISA tests. They are not the be all to end all. Here, educate yourself on PISA. And this is written by an award wining Alberta educator. http://www.joebower.org/2013/12/the-pitfall-of-pisa-envy.html
  23. Marijuana smoke is much more pervasive.
  24. I often use PBL in my classrooms. The educator is more of a learning facilitator in the PBL model. Educators are no longer expected to simply transfer knowledge to students. Many people are relics of the past and aren't up to date with trends in education that are working wonders.
