  1. Project Based Learning is the new rave. Much better than sitting in isolated rows answering useless test questions.
  2. No, it has not been a failure. Alberta is getting ready to roll out Inspiring Education. Here's a blog by a teacher in Alberta who understands the importance of discovery learning. A person like you who lacks knowledge on the subject would benefit greatly by reading the excellent points of view presented in this blog. Good luck in your quest to at least have a minor understanding o discovery learning. http://realteachingmeansreallearning.blogspot.ca/
  3. Are you OK with your neighbours smoke it on their personal patio while your kids smell the fumes while playing in your yard? What do you say when your kids ask what the smell is? Do you simply say it's a plant that is harmless and allows the weak-minded to escape reality for s period of time?
  4. I'm not cool with alcohol. Like I said earlier, I do not ingest any substance that alters my mind. I guess you do, and to me, that is quite sad.
  5. I am an educator. You've proven in education threads that you know nothing about education. When it comes to education you are a relic. Your views on weed are heavily influenced by the fact that you need it every day. I don't. I don't need to alter my mind like you do. I face the real world; not through a purple haze.
  6. What do you know about 21st century learning?
  7. Are you saying smoking a full joint is equal to drinking a full beer? Also, your little graphic is very deceiving. T
  8. This is math in the 21st century. Check out the textbooks used in the school nearest you.
  9. I enjoyed reading the comments after the article than the article itself. It's always beneficial to read the different viewpoints. This could actually be another fad in which kids are simply lab rats to be experimented with. Who really knows what the agenda is.
  10. Those examples show discovery learning at its best. Instead of getting kids to simply memorize useless times tables, they are expected to show they understand the concepts. Your old-fashioned way is going the way of the dodo bird, gosthacked. Traditional classrooms where the teachers stands in front of the classroom regurgitating facts is OVER! Time to get with the times gosthacked. The 50s are over buddy.
  11. Finland has used discovery learning for years. The OP highlights another form of discovery learning. Discovery learning is the best method for teaching learners. If I need facts I use my smartphone. We need to focus on critical thinking and collaboration because those are the skills businesses want.
  12. So you are not a fan of sour diesel? I don't believe, unlike many fools, that marijuana is harmless. I've seen it destroy lives. I've seen alcohol destroy lies. It's all trash. People who need it to alter their state of mind need help.
  13. Your rant is typical of the tea party crowd. Those arguments bore me. The Common Core Standards will enhance teacher collaboration and professional development. Teachers across the USA will be teaching the same curriculum. This allows teachers in opposite corners of the nation to share their best practices with each other and apply it. It also provides the opportunity for meaningful professional development as the education community is all on the same page. But you aren't trained as an educator, so this wouldn't seem like much to the person who hasn't been in the classroom.
  14. I wouldn't start even though I hear you provide valuable lessons through years of experience.
  15. And alcohol continues to cause havoc. I don't need substances to alter my mind. It's sad that you do.
  16. The tea party doesn't like common core, so that should put it in some perspective for you. I mentioned a positive above. Did you even bother to read it? Common Core Standards will increase the rigor in the classroom and thus better prepare students for college and global work success. This is probably the single biggest reason why Common Core Standards were created. Higher education has long complained that more and more students need remediation at the beginning of college. The increased rigor should lead students to be more prepared for life after high school.
  17. But it's going to be used by just those who have a license for medical marijuana. This will be sold to kids. Organized crime doesn't go out of business because something they sell becomes legal. Some of you don't realize that.
  18. So you find it extremely potent?
  19. Many push for legal marijuana thinking it will take a bite out of organized crime. But what happens when a more potent form of marijuana hits the underground? This stuff is called "shatter". Is it harmless? http://www.myfoxphilly.com/story/23546506/new-marijuana-drug
  20. Exaggerate much? I give my opinions. I don't oppress.
  21. I guess you have a Peter Pan complex. LOL I don't knit or crochet. I fight for social justice. I help the weak and oppressed. Video games are for kids and adults that haven't grown up. But whatever, I guess. To each his own. There are many more productive things to do than stare at a screen pretending to be a member of some fantasy world. LOL
  22. You like playing video games? LOL It's sometimes hard the tell the difference between adolescents and adults these days.
  23. I didn't say they were. I was referring to the fact that too many people have little clue about the happenings of the world because they are more concerned about a silly little tournament.
  24. What is not an issue in Canada?
  25. There are many positives with Common Core. It will lead to the development of higher level thinking skills in students. Students today often are tested on one skill at a time. Common Core assessment will cover several skills within each question. This will ultimately lead to better problem solving skills and increased reasoning. There are many other positive things about it. What are your views on it, gosthacked?
