  1. I don't see it being solved, I see it getting worse. The continued attack on the middle class in the West is seeing us move toward a Chinese model rather than the Chinese moving toward a Western model. We'll have global elite how owns and controls everything, with their professional class helpers, and most people as sweatshop workers or servants. I think shrugging our shoulders about what's happening in Canada, and the rest of the West, because "it's not that bad and just the way things work" it not a good idea.
  2. He doesn't want to make it too complicated. The average Republican mouthbreather is easily confused.
  3. You yourself made a big fuss about some Canadian woman taking 19 gallons of milk. And whatever Canadians are buying, is there a shortage? Americans are having to do without because those dirty Canadians are snapping it all up? Since this seems to be an ongoing thing, you'd think the producers and retailers would have figured out to supply more. America needs every foreign dollar they can get.
  4. well that seems to be what all the fuss is about. I'm sure it's mostly Punjabi people who use a lot of milk in their cooking.
  5. Certainly not true for dairy. Ours is price fixed by a cartel, theirs is subsidized by the govt. No wonder it's cheaper. And they allow the use of hormones to increase milk production, we don't. MMMMM hormones.
  6. What about workers in developed markets that have been displaced by globalization. That's all good, is it? We should have a Canadasolidarity.ca Sweatshops in China are better than the alternative for a lot of people. So you can say it's part of China's developmental process. But we're a globalized world now - the pressure is on to create sweatshops everywhere so the rich can get more profits. Don't know who will be left to buy their products tho, as they gut the middle class in the West.
  7. Actually the figure is in the OP. 60% of the 47% are low income workers, ie 28% who pay no federal taxes, in fact may get a refundable tax credit. They still pay FICA (5% regressive tax on lower incomes). They still pay sales tax etc. Paying no federal taxes does not mean you are dependent on the federal govt for healthcare, food or housing, as Romney has it. But sure, if they could just get these people to pay their fair share, the US deficit would be eliminated in no time.
  8. I don't think anybody has said that, have they? What gets ridiculous is a 4th generation Canadian being called Chinese because that's his heritage. He's Canadian, not Chinese Canadian, not Chinese. This sort of crap is perpetrated by both the bigots and the pc crowd - identity politics.
  9. You would have to call Canadians North Americans to be equivalent to calling somebody Asian. It's not Asian or Pakistani, one is a continent, one a country. But what do you call a 4th generation Chinese-Canadian if you don't know where they're from? Asian, right? Eg they committed a crime and the police put out a description. Vs if the person is white, they'll say white or caucasian. If a white person is called white, then shouldn't Asians be called yellow and Canadian Indigenous Peoples (the pc term these days) be called red? What funny conventions we build up. A CIP leader can talk about the 'white man' and nobody blinks. Let Harper talk about the 'red man' and see the s#$% fly.
  10. You really believe the majority in Egypt and Pakistan are moderate Muslims who have a live and let live attitude towards other religions?
  11. I do think there's a huge diff in the relative size of these minorities. And I do think the Muslim majority passively supports the Islamist minority in countries like Egypt and Pakistan. In the West, the Christians who passively support the much smaller number of radical are themselves a minority. That does make a diff.
  12. As opposed to who, exactly.
  13. Actually the question is if blueblood is as wealthy as Bill Gates, and if not, what's wrong with his work ethic and smarts?
  14. I guess I'm too indoctrinated to notice that. What's funny is that the people using those terms here fly off the handle if you conflate Jews and Israel.
  15. Agitate for what, the West Bank and Gaza are back in Palestinian hands. At least the parts the settlers haven't taken.
  16. I think you're fighting a losing battle if you're trying to claim that we would have anywhere near the current world population without industrialization. Not that I'm in favor of having such a high world population. If we didn't know better and all still lived as hunter gatherers, we'd all be happy as pigs in you know. But, we do know better. Even the Natives Indiginous peoples of Canada (just found that that's the current pc acceptable term) who talk about going back to traditional ways are talking about taking that road in their pickup and arriving at a nice house with central heating and a fridge. But what made industrialization so effective is that it lifted so many people out of abject poverty. In large part by government social spending. Universal education, pensions, etc etc were brought in because it made the industrial complex more efficient. Greater income equality leads to greater productivity (within bounds). That's what the ruling class is forgetting now in their greed binge - in the end they're shooting themselves in the head, but I guess hogging out feels too good to stop, even if it kills you in the end.
  17. The Jews liberated Israel from the Canaanites. So 1948 was a re-liberation I guess.
  18. Pretzel logic Come on. Japanese are a race so enacting race based policies aren't racism? And how are the Japanese any more or less a race than the Quebecois? If you want to go down this road, neither Japanese nor Quebecois are races. Neither are the Israelis. So I guess they're all racist for enacting policies based on their ethnicity.
  19. So basically lower themselves to the level of the rest of the world.
  20. Do you? If you say yes, I'll remember that next time you come out with your equal doesn't mean the same stuff, as I know you are bound to do at some point. You know, should hiring quotas be set for women? Are women only groups and events OK? Should women receive the same sentences for the same crime? Should women have to meet the same qualifications for jobs such as firefighter or cop? Etc.
  21. What part of in the OP didn't you understand? This is the same as the guy who was canoeing down a river and was forced to portage because Harper was having a party on shore and didn't want to be disturbed by this guy. But, it's not a CPC issue, the RCMP have always been suck ups to the powers that be. Remember Sgt Pepper and Chretien?
  22. So bring your plugged toilet to India to have it fixed. Indian docs drive taxis here because they can't get certified. Would you let one operate on you? We've seen lots of industries where immigrants undercut current prices, often to the detriment of quality because they do things to 3rd world standards. No thanks.
  23. Well, the person actually hiring you at Ford, unless you're a top executive, may not be poor, but they certainly will be a long way from rich too. Pretty silly argument you're making here by being so literal. And totally irrelevant to the meaning of the original statement. I mean the "person" giving you the job at Ford is the Ford Motor Corporation. The rich CEO and board of directors are cogs in that Corporation same as all the other workers. The corporation is owned by many people, some rich, some not.
