Romney Stiffing the American Public
Canuckistani replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well, obviously you're free to post what you want. But that's not much of a post is it? You're a moderator, I would expect post with more meat on them from you. Many people don't like licorice. -
Romney Stiffing the American Public
Canuckistani replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Pretty hard to infer what you're on about. On the one hand you're concerned about how that money could support thousands of families, on the other you seem to be saying meh, that's what works. Or something like that. What exactly was your point? If you're all about what works, why not just throw in your lot with the right wingers, since you seem convinced that's what works. Or that there's no point fighting it, which comes to the same thing. Trying to read the translated Dutch, I think Romney/Bain avoided paying tax on 100 million in dividends, not avoided paying 100 million in taxes. -
Governance and corruption in the race for resources
Canuckistani replied to eyeball's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Very poor analogy. Unlike buggies, there's an ongoing demand for fish. We just need to protect the resource properly. I think the Cohen commission is a whitewash. Blames the DFO for not doing their job, but doesn't say what their job is. Did they fail to protect salmon spawning grounds. Fail to limit overfishing, what? If there's really no clear reason for the lack of fish, then the DFO couldn't have done much about it. I do think it's habitat destruction and overfishing. -
Justin Trudeau Would Take Liberals to a Majority
Canuckistani replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So funny. Presumably somewhere out there are a good number of people who approve of him. But all you read are the right wingers fulminating about him. He sure surprised people when he defeated Brazeau in boxing. Maybe he'll do the same here, maybe not. But after it sinks in how Harper has sold Canada down the river for trade with China (FIPA), Trudeau's cat could probably be elected PM. Too late by then, tho. -
We would have to import 1 million young people a year to reverse the aging of our population. Anybody up for that. Good point Argus how immigration prevents training of Canadians.
-
This is not the first time we've heard this sort of thing. Can't count the number of times you hear about an immigrant that can't speak an official language, or has little job skills, etc. Why are we importing people like that? We've got plenty of unskilled Canadians that should be doing the unskilled jobs, or better yet, get training in a skill before we import people. It's just done to keep wages down.
-
People are dodging the question of why these people were accepted as immigrants in the first place. I thought immigrants had to speak one of the official languages well enough to get work, be disease free and have sufficient funds on hand to establish themselves. Why was this not followed here? But I wonder if these were refugees, not immigrants? Different standards apply and should apply. But I would still say, refugee or immigrant, you commit a crime in Canada and it's buh bye.

Muslims demand Google destroy its content policies.
Canuckistani replied to kraychik's topic in The Rest of the World
these Muslims are protesting peacefully. That's allowed in democracies, and you don't have to like what they are protesting about. The problem would come if there are sufficient Muslims in the country to push something like this thru. As we've seen, the radical element is pretty good at keeping the more moderate Muslims cowed - they don't often speak up when the radicals go on a tear. This is another reason, aside from the economics of it, that I'm against such large immigration numbers in Canada. You let in too many people of any given ethnicity/religion what have you, and they want to change the country they moved to to be more like their home country. Reducing immigration numbers would prevent this and insure better assimilation. -
Blame shouldn't be deflected at all, the authorities screwed up. But, the racist criers should also take some blame, IMO. It's what we see on Indiginous reserves. If the police act, they're labelled as racists, if they don't, they're racists for not doing anything. And then we'll hold an inquiry, where all sorts of outrageous allegations are made, which is why the authorities get gun shy. Yes, there's racism all over the place, including the police, but there's also this reverse sort of bullshit, which is also racism. Look at Caledonia. There's no other group in Canada that would be allowed to run riot like that, no matter the validity of their grievance, with instead the white people being persecuted by police.
-
This is a pretty old story. The police did admit they didn't interfere because they were afraid of being labelled racist. Social services did not act, even tho these were young girls underage. They were not just raped, but turned out as prostitutes. Some people like to cry racist at the drop of a hat. I think it leads to this sort of bullshit. The judge in the case dismissed the allegations of racism made by the perpetrators. I think the people who need to be investigated are the officials who knew about this and did nothing. When the police in Vancouver didn't act while Willie Pickton went on his murderous rampage, they were accused of racism because many of the victims were Indigenous. This incident in England is the reverse side of that coin.

Would national daycare equal more Canadian babies?
Canuckistani replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why don't they? My newspaper just published a detailed map of the ethic mix of various areas where I live. The insurers don't read newspapers? That said, on the whole immigrants have lower crime rates than native born Canadians. (Except immigrants from Latin America/Caribbean) And native born Canadians have lower crime rates than actual Natives. -

Canuckistani replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You might want to look into that and see how many criminals we allow to stay. As for who's killed, the point is the difference between a cultures that celebrates the killings and one that condemns it. Every culture has murder, but some have excuses for certain kinds of murder. The victim is just as dead, but at least the perp is punished instead of congratulated. -
Out-of-Context Quotations
Canuckistani replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There isn't a modern economy around that doesn't practice redistribution, and the country would quickly fall apart if it didn't. Americans are just dumb, blinded by their myths. That's where keep your govt hands off my medicare comes from, and that guy in the Bill Maher video saying he doesn't like the govt cause it never did anything for him, but he does take food stamps because he's entitled to them. -
Are people who don't have kids selfish?
Canuckistani replied to Black Dog's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
If those people are smart, then there are a lot of stupid people around, ie very poor parents. -

Do you not see the diff between a culture that supports honor killings and one that condemns it? How many "Canadians" (you obviously don't see the people who practice honor killings as Canadians, how bigoted of you) have killed their daughters for wearing miniskirts or going out with boys? We should deport any non-citizen who commits a serious crime, one that could potentially result in a 2 year or higher sentence. -

Canuckistani replied to Black Dog's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
We're already at that point in Canada. Below replacement numbers. But people who advocate that we need more young people to support the old, forget that all those young people will also get old and need even more young people to support them. We've come off a period of the baby boom - a huge, very productive cohort that built up our social safety nets. No way we can replicate that phenom, nor should we try. We have to figure out how to solve the problem without population growth. Personally I think we've already exceeded the carrying capacity of the planet for humans, and will find natural forces causing a population reduction one way or another. Probably in several ways, like resource depletion causes war, say. -
Are people who don't have kids selfish?
Canuckistani replied to Black Dog's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
We'd better hope more and more people are being selfish. 7 billion and counting is way too many already. The argument that we need more and more kids to support all the old folks, then those kids get old and require even more kids to suppors them, breaks down at some point when the planet just can't support more people. I think we're seeing that already and it will only get worse. -
Are sweat shops really that bad?
Canuckistani replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Complaining at least means that the person hasn't just cowed to what you see as the inevitable. I'm sure at one time all sorts of labor exploitation was seen as just the natural order of things. We can use the tax system to reward companies that make Canadian products, penalize those that outsource. We need to be pushing Canadian companies to invest in productivity, something they are really poor at. We need to do a much better job of training our labor force. We can adapt as a country to improve our performance, instead of just asking Canadians to "adapt" and lower their expectations. We can use our tax system for a more equitable distribution of wealth, so the few winners of the new world order don't take more and more share of the profits and screw the many losers of it. I've got to say you sound defensive about this. You're a forum facilitator, I would have thought you wouldn't just sling slurs about people you don't know. -
Romney’s voters are not moochers or victims
Canuckistani replied to Bitsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
How do you know this exactly? I think you're mistaken: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payroll_tax#In_the_United_States4.2% + 1.25% = 5.45% not 16% You falsely assume that I'm sympathetic to Romney. I'm not, I think what he said was bs. That's no reason to spew bs in return. -

AFAIK, payroll taxes cover social security and medicare, together those add up to 5.6%. You could look it up yourself. Sure would like to know where the other 10% goes if what you say is true. -

Canuckistani replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yep, two groups of people. The fewer and fewer who are taking more and more of the money, and the rest. That's the problem. -

Payroll tax, FICA is 5.6% not 16. -

What is the context and meaning of "My job is is not to worry about those people"? He brought them up, he must be worried about them in some fashion. And, if he's not worried about people who earn so little money they don't pay taxes, what does that say about his agenda? Shouldn't he be promoting ideas that have everybody pay lots of taxes, because they're earning so much?
