  1. What Huckabee is saying is that abortion should not be allowed even in cases of rape, because some babies that result from a rape grow up to be wonderful people. The woman having to carry the baby is apparantly immaterial in all this. If she wants to carry the baby to term and raise a wonderful human being, nobody is preventing her from doing so. Just, you know, she may not want to, and may not feel all that wonderful about the baby. Apparently in 30 some states, rapists have visitation rights to any babies born from the rape.
  2. Take a look at what Assange might be charged with (since he's been charged with nothing so far) It's the lowest category of rape, involving putting emotional pressure on somebody, and in his case not using a condom. Maximum sentence is 4 years. When we hear the term rape, we think of a violent sexual attack, so this wasn't rape rape if it was anything at all. We don't even use the term anymore in Canada.
  3. My understanding is that he likes to open his mouth to newspapers, penning pro gun and Christianity screeds. When Jesus returns, I'm sure he'll carry the Pfeifer-Zeliska .600 revolver. Nothing but the biggest for the Lord and all. Plus he'll need it for all the mayhem during the end times. The whole world will look like Detroit.
  4. Only in your dreams. You have no evidence that the homicide rate will be any higher for 2012, and since it has declined for 11 years, even a slight uptick wouldn't mean much. Show me a large city that does better than Toronto - you want to keep wringing your hands about a large city that has such a low homicide rate, be my guest. Shootings happen everywhere. You say 6 shootings in a week, well what is it in another comparable city? What is the total number of shootings in a year? How many shootings in Detroit? You want to compare shooting statistics, feel free. Sounds like you'll keep wringing your hands about TO until there's no crime at all, if then. Stupid.
  5. Shootings are not homicides. Let me turn the tables on you and demand that you provide statistics of an escalating problem. A rate of 1.59 for 2011 is pretty low - what are you saying the homicide rate has shot up to date for 2012? Let's say it's doubles (very very doubtful), that would be 3.18 Compare that to Detroit. The homicide rate in Toronto has been declining, I doubt by the end of the year it will be any higher at all. There were 6 shootings in that week, how many shootings were there in the whole year? Compare that too shootings in Detroit, a smaller city but near to Toronto. There's just no comparison, so yes, things are pretty good for a large city. Where exactly is it better? I got the 1.59 figure from this article: http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/12/30/by-the-numbers-torontos-murder-drops-sharply-in-2011/ So in 2011 the murder rate dropped sharply, but you have info that in 2012 it's risen sharply? Even if true, doesn't that just mean on average it's stayed the same?
  6. Homicide rate, Toronto: 1.59 Detroit: 48.2 Toronto has had a couple of very public, brazen, shootouts this year, that get splashed across the media. It's actually a very safe city.
  7. You're not really claiming that Americans are not trying to sneak in guns at the border, are you. Of course there's the smugglers, but I'm talking about ordinary citizens who just can't let go of their guns. Like the two seniors who had 5 guns (3 loaded handguns) between them because they heard northern Canada was like the wild west. Or the Toronto lawyer who tells his American clients to plead cultural differences is what made them do it - ie he's got a does this so often he's figured out a new defense for his clients. Or the guy in Alberta that got busted with 70 guns. Are you American or Canadian. If the latter I can't see how you can be unaware of Americans sneaking in their guns. For every gun that's seized, how many do you think make it across?
  8. Well, do your thing. Seems to me you mostly attract the Israel ueber alles crowd in response. I'm going to try to stay out of it.
  9. Well sure, I've crossed the border since 911. Talked to others who've had the same experience. Read the media about incidents that rise to the level where they are reported. But I know, you want surveys and statistical analysis. Survey says...69.98% of border guards are aholes. What's wrong with you?
  10. Literal minded much? He speaks for all the Americans who do sneak guns in because they're so damn paranoid. We don't need em or want em.
  11. BC milk producers are all bigger than the average American producers. They seem to be doing well, how can they not when they control supply and price. Personally I can't think of anything more tedious than sitting in a lineup to bring back $20 worth of milk products, having to deal with ahole American border guards puffed up on their power trip. But to each his own, if that's the best use someone can think of for their time.
  12. You seem fixated on Israel and what they do wrong, is my impression. I might even agree with you on some of what you post, but really I don't want to get involved because it seems too single minded. But I got drawn in by one of the Israel can do no wrong yahoos.
  13. It's fun to be a pompous a hole with pussies like this guy. We don't need Americans trying to sneak in their guns because they don't feel comfortable. Stay at home and feel safe, in that case.
  14. Read an interesting piece today where the leader of Hezbollah says they wouldn't exist today if Bush/Netanyahoo had accepted Iran's peace overtures at the time. In part, we create our enemies, or at least their continued existence.
  15. More cops with nothing to hide, just came up: We've had a lot of that in Vancouver as well. But also videotaping that the cops didn't see. Resulted in the initial pr stuff the RCMP put out as being shown to be pure bs. (Dziekanski case) and perjury charges ongoing for the 4 officers involved with one of the 4 also being found guilty of obstruction of justice in an unrelated drunk driving case. He resigned, was the only way to get him off the force. Or the case of a cop in the DTES pushing a woman with MS to the ground because she "lurched" towards him and he "thought she was going for his gun." He just kept walking.
  16. Thanks for that bl. I'm still new here and learning what's what. I know enough to stay away from Bud's posts, usually, because to me he's way off in anti-Israel land to me. (Doesnt' mean he can't be right about a particular point.) The the anti-Bud people he attracts seem way off in Israel good, anybody says different is an anti-semite land. (Doesn't mean they can't be right about a particular point either) Then there's grand mufti guy, wow. I think Isreal has the right to exist within the 67 borders. If they withdrew behind those borders and were attacked, I would support Canada coming to their aid. But you can't keep saying you're for peace, and keep taking the other guys' land while you're doing it. BTW, my using the term Lebensraum is definitely seen as anti-semitic by some people. I'm aware of that. I think it's apt, including the mythical appeal as to why this Lebensraum is justified.
  17. It is the job of the majority of police officers to police the police - who else will? If you're really that interested in finding out the problems in the RCMP, I suggest you get to work and google it, or just read back issues of the Vancouver Sun. That's a lot of work to find all that info, I'm not interested in doing it for you. People here agree that there's a problem, including, as I said, the newly appointed commissioner. I don't need to convince you.
  18. Just read the Canadian media. I'm not going to look up every case that's been reported in the last while, the class action suit that's been launched by former RCMP members, the admission by the new commissioner that things are bad in the force and need to change, the perjury charges and obstruction of justice charges against cops, etc. And when I've done all that, you'll tell me that's not lots or something because it doesn't rise to whatever level you want to set. The consensus here it that its a significant number, ie lots as in way too many. It's not the majority, as i said previously, but the majority doesn't seem to be doing a good job of policing itself.
  19. Well in Canada you just need to read the newspapers about the discussion that the RCMP is a force in trouble with lots of rotten apples and very poor systems of getting rid of them. That's a large part of the police force in Canada. In Vancouver we had the same problem, including cops not willing to report the bad apples until we got rid of the chief and put in a guy who cleaned things up - to a degree. I would be very surprised if it's different in the US, with the reports we read out of there.
  20. Jesus Christ. Are those settlements anything but Jewish? Not this bullshit again - everybody calls them Jewish settlements. They're based on the idea that God gave this land to the Jewish people. So it's Israeli policy to take land because they won the war? Was there a truce signed with each side agreeing to the settlement, as in WWII? If things turn against Israel, and they start losing land, will they just shut up and take it? Each side in the conflict has helped to create this mess. Israel can do no wrong is just as idiotic as Palestine can do no wrong. If Israel is sincere about wanting peace, they need to control their Jewish settlers instead of using them to push for more and more Lebensraum.
  21. Yes, white guilt is only my burden. I made up the term and everything.
  22. Yep, that's equivalent to what Mustaine said.
  23. Because his town is unique in having that sort of culture - never happens anywhere else? Every town has some bad cops. Depending on the culture at the top, there are more or less of them, and it gets covered up a bit more or less. But of course cops pull together everywhere. With what we've seen with the RCMP, it's widespread in Canada. Doubt all the ocifer Wawas out there are any different in the US, certainly doesn't sound like it from news reports. Most cops are good people, but they go along to get along, and that's not good.
  24. I know, it's just me.
