  1. I don't know the answer, but I believe that the homeless should be able to vote. If prisoners are allowed to vote, then the homeless should be allowed.
  2. If the NDP manage to pull ahead of the Liberals, that quote could backfire big time. IIRC, Jack Layton tried to use the argument that people should rally around his party to stop the Conservatives...too bad he didn't believe in that logic back in 2004 or 2006.
  3. Apparently the Liberals are not the only ones who are underestimating the intelligence of Canadian voters...
  4. Even Fox News agrees with me... "If any House Republicans actually changed their votes on the bailout bill because Nancy Pelosi gave an ugly partisan speech, then they don’t deserve to be reelected. You could oppose the bill because you think it’s a lousy bill and you hope that it can be renegotiated and improved. But no Representative in this financial crisis should change a vote because Pelosi pulled her usual partisan shtick to blame this entire crisis on the Republicans. The markets are melting down and you’re voting no because you’re mad at Pelosi?" link
  5. So, you're saying that Republicans voted against the bill because they don't like Pelosi as Speaker? And you're actually defending their actions? Wow.
  6. If it's a "bad bill", why didn't they just come out and say so? Why did they blame it on Pelosi's speech?
  7. Bang on. I think it's hilarious to blame Pelosi for partisanship...but what do you call voting against a bill purely because of what the other party said about it??
  8. Apparently the stock market lost $1.2 trillion today alone, which is more than the $700 billion bailout would have cost. In hindsight, I guess the bailout would have been a good thing.
  9. Now the Republicans are trying to blame Pelosi for this not passing....Unbelievable!!
  10. Then you should have foreseen your amazement
  11. The article also mentioned this: "The high-school graduation rate is at least 90 per cent for the children of immigrants from most countries, but university graduation rates vary widely:" I think the high-school graduation rate in Canada is somewhere around 80%, which is lower than for immigrants. I'm not sure what they mean by "most countries" though.
  12. You're probably right. I've always wondered whether mikedavid has a University degree, and if so what is it and from what institution.
  13. Or that the Conservatives would use it against him in the next election.
  14. Hahaha, that was hilarious! Comparing Obama with Castro is as idiotic as comparing Bush with Hitler.
  15. I was looking at the poll of polls. If I remember correctly, at the time he was up by 1 in the poll of polls. Now he is up by 2 points.
  16. Who cares if we are helping Canadians or Afghans? People are people, regardless of what country they live in. So just because we aren't helping everyone doesn't mean we aren't helping anyone?
  17. Bush proposes a government bailout of $700 billion dollars: link What are your thoughts on spending hundreds of billions on such bailouts? What are the arguments for or against such a move? Personally, I'm a bit skeptical because it seems to me that adding another $700 billion dollars of debt will not be good for the economy, but I'm the first to admit that I'm not an expert in economics...
  18. One thing I don't understand...how would a carbon tax make energy more expensive for the government? The government also collects the carbon tax, so it would, in effect, be paying itself.
  19. After a while of McCain being in the lead, Obama has regained a slight lead... link
  20. There might be other costs that we don't think about. What about taking time of work to vote? That costs money, but not directly. No argument that it won't bankrupt the country.
  21. It's not that much of an exaggeration. The number that I have heard most often is $300 million for an election (and that probably doesn't even include all of the costs).
  22. Hear, hear! If the Liberals were smart, they would stay away from this nonsense. I think Canadians are sick of it.
  23. It's a dumb move to kick him out for speaking his mind...not that Harris was any better. I think the public will side with Murdoch on this one.
  24. I don't see it happening. A merger between the NDP and greens would make more sense.
