I doubt he will be walking the streets anytime soon. The only thing I have a problem with is that we are not allowed to know whether he will be released or not.

I agree with Smallc. The problem is with generalizations. If you say that there are some Asians who are bad drivers, that is speaking the truth (there are some people from every race who are bad drivers). But if you say "Asians are bad drivers", you are generalizing. Of course, if you said "Asians are kind people" you are still generalizing, but I don't think anyone is going to mind if it is a compliment.

I'm not sure how calling conservative supporters "facist neo-cons" is helping the Liberals, or small-l liberals.

I can't help but wonder if KingIggy is actually a conservative trying to make liberals look bad.

I can understand why someone would want to help their family before helping a complete stranger, but I can't understand why someone would want to help a stranger from Canada more than a stranger from another country anymore than I can understand why someone would want to help someone with brown hair and not someone with black hair, or any other arbitrary characteristic that one can think of....especially when there is a lot more money/jobs in Canada than in third world countries. Even the poorest Canadians are a lot better off than most people in, say, Africa.

Could you elaborate more on why you think it's important to look after "our own" first?

People are people regardless of whether they live in Canada or a third-world country. So why are Canadians more deserving of our help than anyone else? Sadly, the only answer I can come up with is that people in third-world countries don't vote in Canadian elections.

I agree! Palestinians should stop fighting Israel. I don't think ANYONE here would disagree with that. Unfortunately, if you say the same thing about Israel, that they should stop fighting Palestinians, a lot of people will disagree with you.

Hehe...I bet everyone feels the same way. I know I wouldn't make the smartest or most charismatic politician, but at least I would be honest. I agree that there aren't enough honest politicians. I guess we as Canadian voters are to blame since most people probably wouldn't vote for a politician who told it like it is. One could try to blame the media, but ultimately it is us who decides our politicians and it is us who decides what the media does since we have choice over where we get our news from. Of course, if there is one (former) MP who told it like it is, it was Chuck Cadman. That man was real. The Reform party is usually the last party I would vote for, but I would vote for that man in a second.

This is why I don't vote NDP. They oppose for the sake of opposing (well, all parties do but the NDP is probably the worst at it). Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf?

That's odd. I once went to the wrong polling station (because I had just moved and hadn't updated my ID) and they still let me vote "absentee". I've also shown up to the polling booth without being registered and registered right there and then. Took about 2 minutes.
