Instead of rebutting gdp and unemployment numbers and trends with regard to the falling corporate tax rate, the best you can do is "get a real job!!" As can be plainly seen by the falling unemployment and positive gdp numbers with the falling deficit, low corporate taxes are working and are contributing to society. As for you, please enlighten us how you contribute so much to society than say myself who runs a 3000 acre grain farm which provides jobs, tax revenue, spending on supplies, and scores of food. Score one for team corporate!!!

Holy ignorance! This is why commerce, management, and business classes should be mandatory for graduation. Ever look at our gdp and unemployment numbers? Ever look at our standard of living?

That's a result in the swings of the economy. Nobody can accurately predict to the penny what the projections are of the govt coffers, they can only estimate. When there is lots of economic growth, the govt coffers tend to do better than first thought. If you think harper is incompetant because of this, then pmpm and manley were just as bad. They both ran surpluses that were underestimated by the both of them. Nothing like a double standard.
-
Except that its currently working. The last check was that the deficit was less than expected. Oops!!
-
That won't work these days, there are too many other countries to set up shop in. The americans (who used to be the bastion of organized labour) are finding this out the hard way. Labour can't have a deal in which it makes compensation unsustainable for business/govt.

Martin balanced the books in 97 (4 yrs). Harper plans to do it in 3 yrs. The gst cut was a tax cut for everyone. Not necessarily stupid because at some point everyone spends money. (Income tax cuts work if you save money) My point remains is that harper is slaying the deficit while cutting taxes and in having a big tax cut prior to doing so. Martin had to wait until after the books were balanced, and it was good that martin did so. My argument is that if harper slays the larger deficit (according to ignatieff) while slashing taxes and in less time, martins crown as financial guru is now up for debate with harper.

Why do the Harper Conservatives dislike students?
blueblood replied to Harry's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Really tender meat... Why does ignatieff drink blood and is afraid of garlic? Why does layton sell used cars and computer programs? Why does duceppe guide santa's sleigh on christmas eve? -
Except that harper is going to do it in less time, with a bigger deficit, and cutting taxes while doing it. Plus he knocked off two points off the gst before hand which hurts with revenue raising. Harper pulls this off, tax and spend as a philosophy is in serious trouble. Martin had high taxes to help slay the deficit and cut taxes after. Martin also had the help of the bond vigilantes. All was good until martin wanted to expand govt in 2006 with his spending spree ambitions.

Bond vigilantes...

Things just went from bad to worse for the Liberals.
blueblood replied to punked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The seaway is another source of revenue. CN and CP rail have made significant investments in the USA especially around the mississippi. If quebec seperates there won't be too much boats on the sea way. Ouch!!! The bond vigilantes would be hauling ass out because it would be a matter of time before they would default. -

Oh no but the economic gong show would have already left the station, the crees would just use expropriation. When the seperation crisis starts, the wheels start falling off when the crees get involved. I wouldn't worry about their hydro, I'd worry about the seaway revenue drying up. -
I don't think that discussion took place in quebec yet. Why does manitoba have respectable books and quebec has gong show books?
-
I think its a bloody serious issue. Quebec has a massive debt that it can't pay for and is unsustainable. All duceppe talks about is wanting to leave and all that jazz, but leaves no plan on how he's going to pay for it and a plan on how to run it. Interesting to note CN rail and CP have expanded into the usa and are doing so around the mississippi river system. Then there is the bond and investor market to deal with, who is going to invest in an unstable and anti-business environment led by the bloc? Then there is the churchill falls hydro project, how much is nfld going to soak them for power? Economic issues are not important because they aren't exciting as doing something daring like leaving. Its like young kids leaving home to party in the city, but end up living just above poverty because they want that lifestyle. Nobody wants to be lectured on responsibility, but in the usa that dialogue is taking place.

Despicable Comment by an NDP Candidate
blueblood replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The media has a fetish for going hard after incumbent parties in elections. Ask the liberals how their media exposure was in 2005-06. Change makes for a better story then the status quo. -
Harper's handlers are taking a risk keeping him muzzled in the french language debate. Why didn't any of the leaders slam duceppe about speaking for all quebecers when he has only about a little more than 1/3 support, harper has to deal with that. Why didn't harper paint duceppe as an economic illeterate. Then there is the skeleton in the closet which is their massive debt caused by unchecked tax and spend trudeau buffoonery. I think harper needed to go discuss quebecers as individuals and not as a collective, that plays into duceppe's trap.

I wouldn't say so yet. It hasn't fallen off the rails unlike martin's which did and the campaign team went into panic mode. The numbers may be soft in the like department, but it will all depend if voters are sick of minorities or not.

Who's fit to lead the nation
blueblood replied to TheRightWing's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If I'm layton and I'm seeing duceppe as nervous as your portraying him, I'm going for the K.O. If anyone can pull it off its layton, he has nothing to lose and the chance to gain some serious momentum. I don't know how duceppe could prepare for layton. If layton can play the drive by potshot game against duceppe with harper as his setup man, the ndp will get some left wing votes here. -
Could Canada be more democratic?
blueblood replied to [email protected]'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Its not joe average picking the caucus leader, its party hacks picking the caucus leader. Essentially its party hacks who pick who the potential PM is instead of MPs like it should be. Let the hacks decide who the candidate should be for MP and let joe average vote for said candidate. -

I'd say whoever won was who accomplished their objectives. Harper won because he marketed himself in the way that was needed to appeal to voters. I like a person who talks trash, but a lot of other people probably don't. Harper keyed in on that. Harper not only survived, he put the focus back on the economy and not on some AG draft report. Also painting the other three as a bickering gong show pads his stats. Layton did the best out of the left leaders. At first iggy had him on foreign affairs in the intellectual debate. However, when layton was able to do drive by potshots at iggy, he came out on top as far as the left leaders go. Iggy is getting a free pass from the msm. Iggy tried to get people in an intellectual debate, but nobody was playing that game. Iggy became frustrated, and got sideswiped by layton while harper talked over his head. -

There are 4 legit parties in alberta. Just because you want us to have a pity party for you because your team sucks doesn't mean the system's broken. Perhaps if some of the loser parties could come out with policies more palatable to voters, perhaps they would win. Why is the wild rose gaining ground in alberta? -
At least he didn't bolt out of the scrum when being asked a question. Who's the coward now? Reporter: " I have a question about your attendance." (En francais) Camera pans for ignatieff Iggy: *waving to the reporters at the door
