  1. Oh no we get the grenade in the house
  2. The muzzle will still be on, there's 2015-16 to win and the ndp is a STRONG second. Perfect. Nice contrast in the house. Harper owes layton a case of scotch/whisky/rum/vodka
  3. +2. Loving it Need 5 more to guess the tory seat count correctly
  4. Its going to be close!!!
  5. Just in from watching hockey. We have the cpc at 151 ndp at 100 with 285/308 whatever that means. How much is left.
  6. Mulroney had interest payments to bondholders who the trudeau govt borrowed from. Those interest payments ran the country further into debt, but don't let facts get in the way of that.
  7. Nope, the deficit was coming. Harper was forced into opening up the spending spigot by the coalition. The deficits each year after that are getting smaller and have been smaller than predicted.
  8. 1) Harper doesn't want to make statements that further spook investors. Politicians have to be cheerleaders of the economy. Note at what bay street did when jack was flapping his gums and rising in popularity 2)See above 3)Of course he's going to take credit for it. Whether the stimulus actually worked or not is highly debatable. Harper is in a no lose situation. Had the stimulus not worked he would have raked the coalition under the coals 4) Thanks to the opposition we have a massive deficit. Had harper had his way in 2008, no stimulus and a smaller deficit. Oh and you need to adjust for inflation when talking about the largest deficits in history as money had more purchasing power then. That honor belongs to trudeau. 5) Harper has run smaller deficits than predicted and is expected to slay the deficit in 3-4 yrs. No plan from the liberals. 6) Harper was managing the country during the "recession" and we lead the g8 in unemployment and gdp growth. But then you'll be saying how martin as finance minister left harper with an advantage, well michael wilson and mulroney left martin with an advantage, nafta and the gst anyone. 7) Seems to me that cutting taxes over the last decade has resulted in growth and increased govt revenues, don't think tax hikes are the way to grow an economy where taxes come from. Our corporate taxes have been falling at the same time as the "massive deficit" whod have thunk it? Sounds like he's running the economy good to me. The falling unemployment, falling deficit, and rising gdp numbers don't lie.
  9. Good point. Another point, to be a fly on the wall in gadhafi's compound right now...
  10. This is going to be all over the morning loop on tv, the net, the radio, and people chatting about it at the polls. Could very well help harper. I don't know about obama, americans would rather get their books in order. had this happened if the economy was better, obama would have term 2 sealed up. Its all about the money all the time.
  11. Yes but we have a constitution and checks and balances to curb the power of elected mps and party leaders. That and canada is one of the most civilized places on the planet. Any attempt at dictatorship would be thwarted rather quickly. Hence, I don't have to worry about that and can focus on what's important, the money and how me and the country can make more of it.
  12. That would be from one of the early scenes of the boondock saints. A good movie btw.
  13. Your forgetting about living expenses and rent. That adds up pretty quick I think, unless living is free which I don't think it is. You also should come out to western canada. Those smart enough to find work that's in demand uni educated or not do better than those who aren't smart enough to find the right kind of work.
  14. Yet the average person with a four year arts degree wont be in my financial situation. Its all about the money all of the time. Ill take reading books over saddling myself with unnecessary debt. Its a waste of money if I'm my own boss hiring myself. The books did the job.
  15. Oh trudeau was much worse than harper. What is acting democratically. He is picked as party leader and was picked by his people in his riding. If people don't like it they can vote for someone else. People have picked him to lead. What is the point of elected reps then? He must be doing all right if the party keeps him on. Chretien was in a majority govt and got tossed out by his party. Harper only gets away with as much as his party and electorate will let him get away with it. Sounds fair and democratic to me.
  16. For me, it would be a waste of money to get a degree. I'm not dropping 60k for a piece of paper I don't need. I heard from uni students back in the day that their exams are based on what they learn in textbooks at the bookstore. So I and the credit card hit up the bookstore and I got my "education" at a tenth of the price and I got to stay at home.
  17. Its all about the money all of the time. Reform had good cost fiscal ideas, and right now harper has the best economic platform. I don't care how he treats the gnomes in the cpc party, just deliver on the economy. If it starts to suck, vote him out or stay home. And during harper's tenure he has done a good job running the economy. He can be the biggest jerk to his party. Its not like he's all of a sudden a dictator.
  18. If I'm working as a grunt on hydraboss's rig with a 4 year science degree and my supervisor who is probably younger than me only has a grade 12, I'd be pretty upset. That's called a useless degree. If I'm spending 60k on school and 4 yrs, I am wanting something that is related to my degree.
  19. Oh I don't mind people going to school, just don't rub it in my face, because that leads to the bank account and asset pissing match, and I end up coming across as an arrogant ass. Sounds like you got into a debate with someone with rocks in their head. There's lots of that in the country and in the city uni educated or not. As for xenophobia, I'm all for immigration. We need all the doctors, labourers, dentists, etc. We can get. I don't feel like travelling an hour to go see the doctor. I live in an area with lots of poverty, you don't want to live like that.
  20. And I bet those fishermen are driving nicer vehicles than them because they don't have student loans to pay off. I love it, uni educated people working the pipeline/patch. What a waste of tuition money and 4+ years
  21. Oh here we go more self righteous university=superior bullshit. It might not take a grade 12 to take over the farm, but it requires some smarts to keep and expand it. I've seen uni educated farmers go just as broke just as fast as those who took the fast track. I can say with confidence many high school educated producers earn as much or more than their uni educated counyterparts and professors who farm as well. The thing I find stupid is someone with a 4 year arts degree thinks that they are so much smarter and better than us uneducated rural farmers yet make one to two less zeros on their paycheck. Stupid is as stupid does. To think that a uni education makes someone smarter, that person needs their head checked. All a uni education makes a person is is less ignorant. Ill take the cash over sophistication and social exposure every day of the week and twice on sunday. Do arts degrees have refunds?
  22. Today the tory ads are playing during the hockey games. Its their big cheesy positive one. Saw 1 lib ad and no ndp ad. I think the tories were focusing on advertising during high ratings tv shows and the ndp was more for the cyberspace advertising.
  23. The only people talking about it are us on mlw, and were typically decided voters at week 1 and are just asking questions. Not an issue in the msm where it matters.
  24. Kimmy and myself and hydraboss aren't talking about legallity, we're talking about the optics and stuff like that is how rumors get started. Layton would easily win in court. However its optics, and if optics aren't good people talk. Its like sponsorhip scandal, and the bp ceo being a jackass during the oil spill. Layton is lucky because this came out at the end of the campaign when nobody of significance is paying attention.
  25. The same reason pro atheletes, ceo's, and other high profile people live in the fishbowl. Their name is so powerful its to the point of they don't get to take the night off. Tiger woods doesn't take a break from being tiger woods, and a benefit of that is the ridiculous amt of money he makes. For politicians its power. The fact that these people are so handsomely compensated gives credence to what they are giving up. The ceo of hp got canned because he fooled around on his wife. It had nothing to do with his performance at the company (which was outdtanding btw), its that the board didn't want a philanderer running the company and making it look sleazy to shareholders, and the fear if he cheats on his wife what else is he cheating? Stephen harper doesn't get to take a night off from being stephen harper. Whatever he does away from the hill can influence public opinion of him, even if it has nothing to do with his job description. As compensation he gets to essentially run the country. Layton also being famous has the same dilemna/benefits as other people in the public eye. It even applies to yourself. Are you going to go around town and act like a d bag? I don't think so because you need customers. Welcome to the world of branding.
