Interviews are on CTV right now and so far Harper and Layton are raring to go. Dion has to come up yet. Two themes, the tory theme of don't rock the boat, and the NDP theme of change. This will be an interesting campaign of ideologies.

You can roll around in the net and still cause injuries to police officers performing the arrest, with the taser you can't move. Don't want to be tased, don't break the law.
-
Why not? in the forties fifties and sixties, crime in Canada wasn't too much of a problem. They must have been doing something right.

Sea of white faces at Republican convention

so what is there affirmative action for conventions now? -
I am now stupider for having read that. The general consensus on this forum is that the Liberals quite possibly are going to be decimated and we will finally get the tory majority. Whooo!!! Looks like it's off to Argentina for you. It was Mulroney's GST that bailed us out, and Harper hasn't put Canada in the poor house. You can thank our financial mess to that left leaning ex NDP Pierre Trudeau. Who is the we in getting rich. I am far better off under the tories than any left leaning government. Oh you want the left leaning gov't in to punish me for making money so it can fund your every whim. As for leftists being better than rightists as far as economics goes, one only needs to look at Venezuela vs. Alberta. Should lay off the pot, it's making you paranoid.

This is bloody hypocrisy of the first order. Here we have a communist, who has came over to the capitalist west. He is living the good life which is provided because of the west's policies and is crying bloody murder and how evil the west is. In the west he even has the fundamental right to question how things are run, which in commie land where he's from it's off to the gulag (however ethically and logically he has no right to bitch and complain) The U.S. is the top of the pile because it showed that the commie way of doing things is utter nonesense. You can ignore my posts all you want, but I have proven time and time again, your posts are utter hypocrisy and don't hold any water. Russia has been humiliating itself for the last 80 years. Like I said if Russia is so good, pack up and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. If this person actually lived in Russia, then the posts can be taken seriously, but by immigrating to the west for the high life and saying how evil the west is, is flat out not only hypocrisy, but disrespectfull. Canada is potentially going to deal socialism a mortal wound in the next federal election, (this according to a card carrying Liberal on this forum). Communism and socialism are a collasal failure and one by one countries are starting to realize that. As for this poster talk about having your cake and eating it too. I sincerely hope that the U.S. pulls off Al Gore's plan, why because Russia will be up shit creek again. -
So it would be like what Trudeau did in the 70's. Incremental Socialism. He only lasted so long and then the people got fed up and gave Mulroney one of the biggest majorities ever.
-
If Harper invoked any of those increment things in the slightest degree, it would get him tossed, the opposition would have cannon fodder to no end. A majority gov't is not the keys to the toy store.
-
So let me get this straight. Harper who is a brilliant political strategist, spent all that time uniting the right, building the party, getting into government, quite possibly getting a majority this time around, then is going to throw all that away to impose some outdated laws??? Oh yes he's going to impose those laws only to get smashed the next election and have them reversed by the next party . I don't know if I put in years of effort to get into the PM chair, I wouldn't want to piss it away by banning SSM and abortion. Oh and then there is the constitution which limits his power, not to mention party brass. No Harper is going to stay PM as long as the electorate will let him, and in this country that means coming to the centre which he and his party have done. As for the Harper hidden agenda, it's time to take off the tin foil hat and lay off the dope, it's making you paranoid.
-
Funny thing is we're doing a better job over there than the Russians did. As for everyone else believing your hypocrisy, that train left the station.
-
And why would he want to lose the next election by implementing such sweeping change? As for the pot legislation, don't do pot and you won't go to jail. Boo hoo. If smoking pot is your number one priority I suggest emmigration as not even the Liberals are going to put in change. It's the law of the land and the people have spoken.
-
your right a 10:1 kill ratio isn't a war, it's an ass kicking. World War 2 lost us way more than 4000.
-
that doesn't change the fact they were voted into oblivion.
-
Then why didn't he have a whipped vote on SSM? Why no abortion debate? If he's as extreme right as your assuming, those social issues would be priority one for him.
-
I think Harper is throwing the extreme right under the bus, he has to in order to get his majority, his main cabinet members are progressive. In the SSM marriage vote, there were tories that went against the party line. Even the provincial tories in Alberta change a little bit to hold onto power, likewise with the MB NDP.

August, Manitoba is in my opinion a miniature Canada right down to the last detail. If you haven't noticed Dobbin and myself are as polar opposite as you can get. He is a Winnipeg Liberal and knows the city well. IMO, urban Winnipeg is the same as urban anywhere in Canada (except for Calgary and Edmonton), and if he senses that the Liberals are going to get smoked in Winnipeg, that does not look good for the party in the rest of the country.
-
That would depend on who's leader. Doer has made one big gaffe and that was it. Doer is a lot closer to the fed. libs than fed. dippers. It would be interesting to see how the NDP would handle this and how what direction their policy goes.
-
From what your saying its that the tories could almost over 200 seats. Layton could still be leader if the Liberals collapse like Dobbin is saying. I'm wondering if dobbin got some kind of a bad email or something. This is really good news if your an NDP supporter. What was nice with the Liberals and tories was if you got sick of one, you could vote the other in and the country wouldn't have changed that much. With the NDP, it's if your sick of the tories and vote the NDP in, who knows what you'll get. I'd rather have the devil I know than the devil I don't.
-
Wow, I don't much care for the Liberals, but I'd rather have them and the tories duking it out rather than the tories and NDP. In my opinion the Liberals and Tories aren't that much different, just on a few policies, that's it. To have the NDP have a legitimate shot at getting in, is not a good thing.

re-copied Opening Post deleted by moderator Layton must be shocked that Obama wants to stay in A-Stan. Layton will do anything for attention.

Who knows, maybe after 8 years in total of tory gov't, the Liberals will get back in, the party completely revamped. I thought that when Dion got elected, it was party brass wanting to clean out the closet completely. The Liberals IMO are like the democrats, divided. The last of the "Trudeau" dynasty is being swept away. It was a shame that Martin got the shaft by them, that party needs more beancounters and less academics. I don't know why they would take Bob Rae, he is a cancer to that party, with Kennedy and Ignatieff on the opposite end of the spectrum than him. If the Libs share the same fiscal views you do, in the next five years they will be a contender, the trudeau policies of the 70's are a dead horse.

What are you talking about, in the 90's the PC party which was around for more than 100 yrs. was cast into oblivion using the FPTP system and a fringe Reform party got in. Nobody is entrenched in a democracy.
