  1. Lonestar WAS a good channel and I do like my westerns, but to have a channel dedicated to westerns when the genre goes in short spurts doesn't make much sense. Not enough western Content to fill a channel. Also didn't help that they didn't have new shows. Lonestar quit being an exclusive western channel when it played regular movies to get better ratings. If it plays big budget Hollywood movies 95% of the time it will already be a different channel than the other Canadian movie networks.
  2. The American movie networks are good for playing lots of the newer good movies. This Movie Central and Super Channel up here in Canada is crap.
  3. Tombstone - Kilmer was the man We Were Soldiers - fairly intense movie The Scarlet and the Black - good story New Batman movie - really good story if you don't mind the guy running around with a cape Thee 1960's bond movies - hilarious Bridge over the River Kwai - good story
  4. Very interesting, my question is, if the US is seeming to plan an energy independance initiative on the same level as the space race of the 60's, what will happen then??? I believe that if the US pulls this off, Russia is royally screwed.
  5. Hard to say Harper is some sort of totalitarian and is going to oppress everybody when he is a world leader who is taking China to task on it's abysmal record of human rights.
  6. That taxpayer would also benefit from the extra tax money collected from higher revenues and has an option of investing in ag companies who's stocks rise from higher ag revenues. I don't see a carbon tax benefiting many business's bottom lines...
  7. Every Capitalist gov't in the world has some sort of rules that it believes work in the country's financial self interest. Canada has this so country people won't be in the poorhouse and income tax from farming operations go to the Canadian gov't instead of somewhere else. That being said, if farmers in Canada were on the same tech level as farmers in Africa, I would agree with you. However Canadian farmers aren't. There are other industries in Canada and the World that have protectionism in one form or another. Take the medical field for example. The CMA has that sewn up tight.
  8. I agree, Doer is nothing but a bandwagon jumper, give the MB Libs credit they are consistent. Apparently no business owner is allowed to get ahead in Manitoba according to the NDP. Family farms in Southern Manitoba can't buy pigs either. Placing the environment ahead of our prosperity is a recipe for the poorhouse.
  9. Not when the ethanol thing doesn't punish anybody like a carbon tax does.
  10. Oh I don't know the thing that scares me about Dion is let me think... his commie green shift plan for starters.
  11. Then how is it the federal tories have swarms of money and the LPC is broke, if the LPC is publically funded they wouldn't be in financial trouble. I thought the law was for max donations of x dollars and that was it. Public funding is as bad as having large private and corporate donations.
  12. The tories suggested that political donations be capped as far as huge corporate or private donations go, everyone donates the same thereby keeping the special interests somewhat at bay, I think it's a good idea, it keeps politics somewhat more honest. Personally I wouldn't want any political parties to exist period as it was in antiquity, that way an elected rep is more accountable to his electorate and can vote how the electorate wants to go and not have to worry about partisan nonsense. I vote tory because they most closely follow my views.
  13. And the millions of people living in Toronto all using the washrooms don't contribute either? Spreading pig manure makes the soil more fertile and is cheaper than buying fertilizer. But according to you people can starve and less fuel can be made just as long your happy. Too bad the prairies don't drain into the great lakes.
  14. In russia the dangerous part is expropriation by their gov't, it has happened in the oil industry. European countries get to ban GMO's from Canada and the Americans jack the tariffs up on certain ag imports. Tit for tat. This is also helping Canadian farmers get a foothold in purchasing land and helping become rich themselves. The American farmers have a large headstart as far as setting up farms go. A few prairie farms are 100 years old or older. It helps when a person has "old money" to go on investing adventures. Canadian farms are productive enough if not more so. Remember that the larger a farm gets, the more it loses productivity, this happened in commie russia. There is a certain size that is optimal. If Canadian farmers were still going with an ox and plow, I'd agree with you, but there's a point where there has to be some regulations. That land is going to make x dollars an acre no matter who owns it. I'd rather the money stay in Canada.
  15. There's lots of Canadian Farmers looking for land, rent is up to 50 bucks an acre. It makes perfect sense to have this kind of restriction because it is better for our economy and gov't coffers if the land stays Canadian owned. There isn't that kind of shortage of people yet. The U.S. plays a game similar to this concerning other things such as import restrictions on various commodities. The U.S. farmers are playing a dangerous game having big farms in Russia considering how Russia handles it's foreign investers.
  16. They do that in Saskatchewan, they tack on the levy at purchase and refund the customer when they bring the bottles back. This shows a failure of the recycling program in Canada. Downloading the labour by making the consumer sort their own garbage is a bad idea. It's much easier to throw it all in the garbage, I'm not getting paid to sort so why should I? In Saskatchewan when you bring your bottles back you get money. You don't really profit from it though, but it's nice to get 50 bucks for hauling in pop bottles. Case in point, at our municipal landfill they accept recycling of chemical jugs and other sort of things. There is a "dump supervisor" there who just supervises. I figure that's a nice idea, I can bring a load of chem jugs in everytime I go to town. Upon unloading the boxes of jugs, the lazy supervisor has the nerve to tell me to seperate the jugs and boxes, what am I paying high muni taxes for? I am paying for this character to sit at the dump and suntan for minimum wage. Needless to say I just take the boxes and jugs and just burn the damn things in my new fire pit. If city folks are so obsessed with reducing landfills, roundup all the bums and put them to work sorting garbage for their welfare cheques. Vancouver would be a good place to start.
  17. And this is where my tax dollars on 2000 acres of property tax and two yardsites are going... Meanwhile the ag sector which is bankrolling this province is under attack from the NDP. If you are in southern Manitoba, you aren't allowed to buy pigs. Alberta has been tory for 35 yrs. They don't believe in punishing individual people for succeeding. Why should I be poorer so people can have a pool? Great my property taxes go up and my hydro goes up because Manitoba has put itself 1/2 a billion more in the hole this year on crap like that. I'd really hate to be an Ontarian, Albertan, and Newfoundlander hearing this. The government should not be building a province, that is up to the citizens of the province. Had Manitoba had that philosophy we wouldn't be so far behind the Albertans. Saskatchewan HAD an NDP because it looked across the border and seen how a province that has the same resources should be run. Sask, still has catching up to do. By that logic I should be taking an 8 million dollar loan out from the local Credit Union and turn my farm operation into a state of the art facility. I believe private donations should be capped, at the same time I shouldn't be forced to fund the NDP or you forced to fund the tories.
  18. The F22 from your provided specifications sounds like a not too bad multirole fighter as well, plus a better scrapper in the air to boot. If Canada had carriers, I'd say an F-35, but we don't so the F-22 looks better. What the F-15 did to Mig 29's in Iraq was nuts, imagine an F-22.
  19. I should not be forced to bankroll a party that I do not believe in. Remember it goes both ways, that would be a hardcore dipper being forced to support the tories. That tax money could be placed somewhere's else, such as back in my pocket or in hospital beds. A donation cap takes care of corporations and people of influence. Yes the crown corporations do belong to the people of Manitoba, they also have a monopoly here. Raiding the profits of the Crown Corporations to balance the books is going to result in higher insurance rates and higher hydro. Why not have them profitable so we can have cheaper power and insurance? The debt in Manitoba in 2008 has increased by half a billion dollars. On top of that there are the transfer payments to be addressed. MTS being privatized is great as well, it's a public company so a person can buy shares in it. We are getting great services from them because they compete with other agencies. The dippers also neglected the highways and they are still garbage around Winnipeg. The NDP gov't has been great if your a Winnipeger. Policy is just as important as spending, and the NDP has been in the way of economic growth in rural Manitoba, , they'd rather spend money funding political parties.
  20. Unfortunately Denmark a NATO ally also doesn't recognize our sovereignty in the North, neither do the Americans. It's a free for all when the Ice goes, Canada needs to start carrying a big stick.
  21. How about the plan where gas at 4 dollars a gallon due to high commodity prices resulted in people getting rid of their 4x4s for more fuel efficient cars. Mission accomplished. No tax necessary. Gotta love that efficient free market.
  22. The provincial NDP apparently now has a blank check. Two bills are on the works, one allowing for the public funding of political parties and the other allowing the NDP to raid the profits of Crown Corporations to fund gov't programs. All this while getting big transfers from Ottawa. It would be nice if Winnipegers would realize the provincial government is not another city council.
  23. My point is that since the F22 can take out a dozen F-15 single handedly and the F-15's are already eons superior to anythings the russkies produce, a person wouldn't have to have as many.
  24. I already know full well that electric motors are more efficient than IC motors, the problem I'm stating is getting the vast amounts of juice needed to operate the type of equipment I have for the long hours I require. A battery just won't cut it, having it run like a train would be a good idea, lots less maintenance. Your idea of full size might be different than mine.
