  1. Harper wouldn't let it get to 30 and 47 billion dollars, that would be political suicide. He is going to have a hard enough time explaining 4 to 5 billion in two years.
  2. Not when the private health clinics are paying taxes when they open up a practice. However to have this would require a salary cap adjusted for inflation in order to ensure everyone gets health care. Millionaires have no place in a soup kitchen. Dobbin is right, should be done on a provincial level.
  3. Exactly, they would save money. No argument on the complexities of the matters. I know full well the dangers of it, it would in the end save a lot of money.
  4. Rightists believe in due process, we also believe in speeding it up and making it more efficient, however when said person is found to be "dangerous" we like to throw the book at them. I don't believe in capital punishment because of the possible chance of error. I do however believe in more liberal use of the dangerous offender legislation, which means said offenders rot in jail for the rest of their life. Look at the case in Quebec where the rapists get house arrest cbc A rightist would toss them in jail for the maximum allowable sentance, a leftist would give them the chance of house arrest. Hence why I see the irony in your OP.
  5. By that logic then, Jack Layton should have been running his election campaign from a train, and done all of his advertising through posters, and then refunded all the tax dollars used to fund his campaign. All parties are not doing well financially.
  6. Yes lets punish the people who are responsible for providing jobs which has resulted in our strong economy. Typical leftist idea, punish people for succeeding.
  7. That's good, I'd go further, cut salaries of all gov't employees by 10% due to these tough times, slash arts funding, open up the canadian health care system to two tier care and impose a salary cap, gut the senate, ensure that civil service is performance based, only invest in projects that would result in at least a return on investment, simplify the tax system, invest in crown corporations and then sell them off or keep them based on performance and money coming into the gov't. That's my start
  8. No profit means no incentive which means everyone suffers, it's called human nature. The Russians tried to change human nature and failed miserably. People will always serve their own self interests and a lot of times other people benefit as a result of it. Everybody is out to make a profit and to better themselves, to think otherwise is naive and ridiculous.
  9. My confidence is high. A lot higher than yours. I know this mess will be over in two years. I'm not worried in the least. I don't piss around in the stock market so I have nothing to worry about. Your the one who's running around yelling the sky is falling and cheering on an impending depression. Why would I need to force you to do labor, I have machines to do that.
  10. We'd really be throwing the dice wasting money on a problem that might not exist (global warming). Refer to Riverwinds rebuttals of the GW alarmist theory. I know what socialism is, I also know how big of a joke it is. The USSR is the biggest failure in modern history, and what government policy did it have. I'll give you a hint, it starts with an S and ends in an ism. Bullshit, Venezuela is fair game, they had a socialist gov't for ten years and access to a gold mine of oil. Why aren't they as rich as the world with alledgedly "the most advanced form of government there is?" I'll tell you, socialism sucks. By punishing all the foreign investment in that country they don't have enough funds to capitalize and fund projects. Who wants to invest in a country when their socialist government will ruin them? Because of socialism, the people of Venezuela suffer. On the other hand Ireland one of the most capitalist nations on the planet has come out of its basket case scenario of terrorism and squalor to become one of the richest nations in the world, and here's the kicker - they have no oil. By slashing their corporate tax rate and other unnecessary gov't bs, they encouraged investment and they are one of the richest countries in the world. My claim stands, socialism sucks. If you think having a better lifestyle is due to more government services you need to give your head a shake. The average Albertan gets to keep more of their money than the average Norweigan. Also try telling me an average Norweigan drives a nicer vehicle and has a nicer house than an average Albertan. An average Norweigan could live like an average Albertan, but there are those darn sky high taxes that they have to pay. At least their gov't pumps out oil, because no private firm would be stupid enough to invest in an oppressive country like that. I read the links, let me ask you a question, why would banks on their own lend to people who can't afford to pay back the loan with no questions asked when there are countless small business's that have to jump through hoops in order to get a small loan? Only gov't intervention can answer that question, once again socialism sucks. Had the banks not been forced to lend to poor people, we would not be in this mess. The USSR was a socialist country, the cold war was a competition between capitalism and socialism, capitalism won and socialism sucks, get over it.
  11. There fixed it for you.
  12. I agree, tinfoil on sale at co-op...
  13. Yes i do think they are terrorists. Terrorists already have their cheerleaders, these types are no different, their homeland gives them protection. Any sane and rational and law abiding citizen in the first world can argue with that these days. Have we seen the beginning of class warfare again? I wouldn't worry, the rich west always prevails.
  14. link link This is why gov'ts should stay out of the banks business. The Canadian banks who aren't forced to lend to people who can't pay are the only banks that are successfull. Socialism sucks.
  15. Dare I say this is a very right wing synopsis coming from you. I thought it was the leftist thing to do was to give dangerous men, including murderers a chance. Dare I say are you coming over to the "dark side", a rightist would say to hell with the dangerous men, including murderers; let them rot. Would you take this position on other forms the right has to offer on issues such as this? On the right we screw over the bad guy and are demonized for doing so. It's almost a double standard, screw the bad guy over when it comes to relationships, but give him a chance for everything else. Lets see some consistency here.
  16. A country that will be doing very well come mid 2010 and will still be a superpower, far better than what the USSR could ever do. Leftist lawmakers tried to force banks to lend to poor people and look where it got them. They won't be trying that experiment with socialism ever again.
  17. Unfortunately profit does contribute to the betterment of humankind. I suggest reading the Wealth of Nations. How am I wrong that people have no reason to better themselves as a result of socialism. Socialism is punishing people for succeeding by taking away anything extra and giving it to people who are unfortunate. That way of thinking has been proven ridiculous and is partly why the USSR collapsed. Now in smarter areas of the world, people aren't punished for succeeding and in turn because of their success have to hire and pay workers in order to keep their operation running smoother due to growth, those poor people have money when before they had none. Those poor people can now spend money buying things that improve their lives. You tell me which system is better?
  18. Too bad, the Liberals used to have this attitude and were reduced to a minority parliament and then defeat. Want a majority, play nice to the hill billies. Praise Jesus!!!
  19. And over time more technology and innovation will allow us to gather other sources of materials, see Wild Bill's post. This has happened throughout history. Oil has only been used widely for 150 years. And a central planning socialist garbage system is any better? The USSR couldn't even bloody feed themselves and they were a world super power. Nope socialism sucks. And if you want any proof of that, look at the living conditions of a person in Alberta vs. Venezuela vs. Norway. The average Albertan has a much better lifestyle and you can take that to the bank. When the banks are forced by law to grant loans or be in serious trouble, they sort of have to give them. How about the government stays out of the bank's business so they can loan money to people who can actually afford to pay them. The USSR thought they were perfect examples of socialism, where are they today? You name one socialist country that has better living conditions than Alberta. Nope socialism is crap, utter crap. People have no incentive to innovate and grow, everybody is the same - poor, and rich countries have no desire to invest money there. Individual people know how to run their finances better than any government. Markets have been around for well over 200 years. Nay sayers thought that the depression would be the end of markets, well they were wrong. Gov't intervention caused the depression instead of a short term market crash.
  20. People in glass houses shouldn't be casting rocks. Care to tell us the Liberal Senators little adventure to Dubai??? All parties spend stupidly on this flight nonsense. Saying this is a tory only problem is nonsense.
  21. I thought that went out in the days of Captain Kidd... I just thought they were random boats.
  22. What concentration of wealth. In case you haven't noticed, wealthy people have invested in areas all over the world making themselves and the citizens of poor areas much better off. Canadian mining companies have invested in Kenya when they didn't have to, providing Kenyans jobs and at the same time making the mining company bigger. What the hell is wrong with that? Would you rather have those Kenyans jobless and even poorer? No the only bottom line on this crisis was some stupid leftist social experiment trying to force rich people to lend to poor people with no guarantee of loan repayment. The poor people buggered up the bank liquidity and screwed everyone including themselves over. As for overpopulation do you suggest a cull? Where do you draw the line? I suggest adapting to it and making money off of it at the same time.
  23. Dwindling natural resources? Cars are the most recycled products there is. And then there is that pesky law of the conservation of matter. Technology has enabled us to change the world and will continue to do so. If we were running out of resources, they would be much to expensive for anyone to afford, the system works. Wealth distribution was the cause of this mess. Loaning to poor people who can't afford to pay their bills. If the government did things like Kevin O'Leary does, we wouldn't be in this mess. In theory the supply of oil in the ground is infinite, refer to the carbon cycle. However with high energy prices, that spurns more investment and development of alternative energy. Markets do work, they have been around for over two hundred years, survived the depression and other downturns and have advanced human civilization. Socialism on the otherhand is a complete joke, refer to the soviet union. The only thing environmentalists should invest in is duct tape.
  24. That would happen in Canada. Those big battleships are also fitted with tomahawk cruise missiles and technology allows us to use very accurate munitions. Also it depends on media spin...
  25. Banks are in business to make money, why in all that is holy would they make lend out money to people they know can't afford to pay. Only a fool would do that, or someone forced by government. Tin foil is becoming a rare commodity these days, I should be looking to buy shares. The free market has been around longer than any stupid socialist experiment and will continue to be around longer. This will only last for a little while than everything will be hunky dory again. The only thing different is that it will be a lot harder to punish rich people for doing well by forcing them to lend to people that can't afford it, which in the end will be better for everyone. Gov't intervention brought this mess, they can clean it up with regulations that keep the rob from the rich mentality out in the fringe where it belongs. This economic crisis just proves that socialism is a pathetic scourge and is pure evil. I'm with Geoffery and August 1991 on this issue.
