Flaherty to slash public funding for federal parties
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pot meet kettle. It's all right for the Liberals to run deficits when they are in power, but God forbid the tories do. For somebody as fiscally conservative as you claim to be, you should be outraged at the Liberals proposal to run the deficit. Let's see some consistency here. Let the opposition in, let them bungle the economy, let the tories get a new leader. -
Whose to hold in check the unelected bodies. can they be fired? I trust someone who can be fired than some appointed hack. Get rid of this unelected and unaccountable dinosaur. We have a medical system in shambles, yet Senators who don't do anything can ritz it up in Dubai?

Even if it is an unnecessary waste of money that can either be used for social programs or tax cuts. Is tradition worth that much to you?

Flaherty to slash public funding for federal parties

Harper it seems "has just gone to vegas and has put his life savings on 21 black at the roulette table" Why he went back on the political party funding I don't know? Take that issue to the voters, "how would you like your tax dollars going to pay for people you don't like to be on TV", sure that's utter baloney, but your average voter doesn't know that. As for the stimulus package the Liberals are throwing in, you know what that means as far as the books go... and I know your position on gov't stimulus to the economy... Here's the skinny, harper can play his game and let the opposition take the house and hope that they plan on bringing Rae days again. He can let the opposition go into deficit, a huge deficit, and lambast them on the next federal election. If I were party brass, I'd take this position. Harper is expendable, they groomed him out of nowhere and can do the same to anyone else in the party. If the opposition wants this mess let them clean it up. Option 2, involves going to an election and Harper has to run a well run campaign. There can be no errors, and he has to take the other parties to task over this. This is in Harpers best interests, although it is extremely risky. Option 3, cave in and hope parliament works. The tories would turn into the Paul Martin Liberals and would be held hostage by the opposition in gov't. The tories would be slim pickings, and Harper would be gone. The tories would also lose credibility and any ground they made. The risk is big, but the payoff is huge. -
That's called the constitution, which can also be changed by democracy (although very hard to do). Why do we need an unelected, unaccountable, and expensive Senate? Our country would work fine without senate, but being a flag waver anything that cuts out anything "Canadian" you have a problem with.

I and Hydraboss will call bullshit. For someone complaining so bad about passing a piss test, worrying about job security, praising at the alter of unions, sounds like a worker bee. Now you own a company and gross a million bucks a year. Something stinks... If I'm grossing over a million bucks a year, which I am, the last thing I'm worried about is a damn piss test. Your profile is full of inconsistencies and it's come to bite you in the ass. If your job is in such high demand and they are willing to pay you so much, they won't subject the owner of a company to a piss test. It's not just welders that are getting undercut, geologists are getting undercut as well. We live in a global market and labour is a commodity, by idiot unions and firms gouging companies for wages, they are forced to look oversees, you guys screwed yourselves. That being said, I know 25 year old kids that are consulting out there with only a grade 12 education, lots of work still out there and room for advancement if you play the game. -
An undemocratic and unaccountable body in gov't serves no purpose except to waste taxpayers dollars. Time to swing the axe. We have elected officials to make and pass laws. We have the GG as the rubber stamp, why do we need all those senators that do the same thing as the GG?

It's a good thing the leaders of the UK, US, Canada, and USSR didn't drink your kool aid or we'd be speaking german. This is why cowards don't lead countries in the modern world. -

He is talking out of his hat, every person from my town that has went to work on the oil patch has money to burn and drives lifted up trucks. How a person can't find work out there is defying logic. They're bringing foreign workers because they can't find enough workers. -
Density as in unions per capita? I can see Man, Sask, being high. Quebec as well. Surprised with NFLD and Ont.

That was a little extreme, yet funny, we're not all that bad. I pointed out a little rightist, with regards to throwing the book so to speak at the vampire, in the left/right game, the stereotype is, the leftist would want to rehabilitate the vampire, as the protaginist is doing, which is what I thought your position would be regarding dangerous men/bad boys, hence the irony and me pointing it out. As for myself helping others out, the stereotype is that conservatives wouldn't help out people unless they could make a buck out of it, knowing your dislike for the right, you should have been all over that.

Touche, you at least gave money. I'm used to winter calving and yanking drunk teenagers out of the ditch in the wee hours of the morning, I guess it's a farmer thing... I have asked for favors in the wee hours in the morning (tire shop changing combine tire at 6 in the morning, which means he's up early so I don't have downtime) I guess it's the tit for tat thing (ducking behind something while BC Chick lambasts me about the irony of a rightist helping out somebody in a spot).

Did high gas prices trigger a global recession?
blueblood replied to Wild Bill's topic in Business and Economy
I showed facts, gov't passed legislation essentially forcing banks to lend to trash. It's not my fault you can't realize that. It's not my fault you can't realize that the only reason banks will loan to trash is if they are forced to. If it was such a long term lucrative business, every billionaire would be "loaning" money out to anyone who walks in the office. Logic strikes again!! -
I'm loving this. Your starting to come over to the "dark side" . What I'm pointing out is that you are willing to throw "trash" under the bus like any other right winger, not that there is anything wrong with that. I agree 100% I'm looking at this from another perspective in terms of left and right. IMO naive girls like the protaginist are leftists, for some reason they are willing to give more than one chance to somebody even though they are "trash" - your protaginist. IMO, your position on this affair is in fact rightist, for some reason you see someone - the vampire, give him a chance - read into his character, find out he's "trash" and are ready to chuck him under the bus. I love it. IMO Nice guy = drives girl to airport at 5 in the morning after being woken up from slumber, not afraid to offer 2 cents if he believes girl is "crossing the line" Bad guy = "yes man", cheater, spends time in jail, overly possessive, sneaky, manipulative, makes girl take a cab to airport at 5 in the morning Why women go for "the bad guy" defies logic.

From what I hear, plus being a bastion for conservatism helps the cause as well. A lot of workers here realize that cooking the golden goose is not exactly a good idea.

Logic is a bitch isn't it? -
It is punishing them in that they contribute jobs and tax dollars to the economy. By not offering a tax break when other areas of the world have better rates, you are in fact punishing them. Tax punishment happens to people of all classes. Having high taxes whether your rich or poor is tax punishment. Cry me a river about your wage earners, businesses contribute far more to the country than wage earners. All wage earners are good for is cheap labour and votes. Here's a fact, taxing the hell out of our business's adds costs. Have too many costs and that leads to outsourcing, which means the wage earners are even worse off.

I don't know if that union nonsense flies to well up there...

Yet you want to nationalize Alberta's oil. That's not right wing, that's selfish.

49% Canuks Want Petroleum Resources Nationalized
blueblood replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In all fairness, the oil belongs to the person holding mineral rights, that's either the province or the landowner fortunate enough to have them. As for screwing the guy over for "putting straws in the ground", what a dumb idea. That guy is taking a huge financial risk drilling for oil and is spending a lot of money and expects a return on investment not to mention compensation for providing a service. People value oil highly and value those who get the oil out of the ground, hence the high pay. Cooking the golden goose is stupid NDP policy that is evil. -
a. Strike 1 their own population would suffer from radiation poisoning/deaths, then there was this little thing called the a bomb not being invented yet b. Strike 2 Germany was attacking North Americans, hear of the U-boat attacks of WW1? Hear of the Lusitania? Newfoundland was still a british colony at the time and Canada had obligations to the British Empire. c. Strike 3 Insane people should never be allowed to rule, militaries serve that purpose Your out

Did high gas prices trigger a global recession?
blueblood replied to Wild Bill's topic in Business and Economy
If that was true, then the dragons would be throwing money at every ridiculous pitch that comes their way, banks would loan to everyone no questions asked. Since banks do not in fact like loaning to people, due to the large amounts of loan rejections, we must ask ourselves why would banks loan to skids in the first place? The answer, government trying to impose socialist nonsense by forcing banks to "give" money to skids. It's simple logic. If the mortgage thing was the way to go, Kevin O'Leary, Brett Wilson, and the rest of them would be all about loaning money to skids. If it's such a money maker, why aren't these guys in it? They are all about making money aren't they? -

blueblood replied to Wild Bill's topic in Business and Economy
My links clearly stated that the government enacted legislation which forced banks to loan to poor people. Why would anyone in their right mind loan money to someone who can't pay it off? have you not applied for a loan before? They're a little hard to get when you have bugger all. Here's an idea, watch dragon's den on cbc, hell watch all the episodes. And watch how they dole out the money if they do at all. Simple logic says it is more profitable to loan money out to people who can pay it back. Those Dragon's aren't stinking rich because they throw around money like you claim banks want to. Had gov't not got involved, the poor people would be living in low income housing where they belong. -
Paul Bernardo has been placed under the dangerous offender legislation. He won't know what freedom is for the rest of his life. There have been wrongful convictions, the last thing the justice system should be doing is quite possibly put an innocent man to death. If he is jailed, he has a chance for appeal, death no chance to appeal.
