She would not allow the coalition to form gov't because the alternative is an election. If she allowed a coalition gov't, there would be massive public outrage, as seen on the news. Do you think the GG wants that over her head when she has an easy out in an election? With an election the coalition supporters at least get their say in their distaste of government by going to the ballot box. Without an election the coalition haters don't get that say which will result in protests and smearing. The GG's legacy, name, and reputation are at risk.

Should Canada and the U.S. become one nation?
blueblood replied to wulf42's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I thought the 2nd world war was the death blow for the empire. Instead of a revolution, the Brits had a firesale. The empire barely made it out of the first world war. The revolution so to speak was almost a world war in itself. The Brits made the horrible mistake of valuing India more than the US. I think the Empire expanded somewhat after the revolution and the two world wars snuffed it out. -

Welcome to small town life, every town has their well known kook. This character is our's. -
That's what third world countries and gov'ts creating university stipulations are for.

No BS, eye for an eye. My job is just as important as a doctor's. Why should I get soaked at tax time to pay a ridiculously large salary? The ag subsidies are useless. I don't even qualify for bailouts. I'd have no problem ending of the Liberal firehose method of funding that helps no one and screws the taxpayer. Why do doctors need to make six figures off the taxpayers back?

The lower taxes would more than cover it. You would be surprised at how much the 2% GST helps out business owners.

Canadians don't understand our political System?
blueblood replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nice, when Harper's numbers poll high, the electorate is stupid. When Liberal numbers are high the electorate is educated on the political system. According to Liberals, what people want doesn't matter. -
Wouldn't need them if farmer's taxes weren't paying doctor's salaries.
-
Are you high? Everyone hates the coalition. All harper has to do is tie Ignatieff to the coalition and send it through the spin cycle. harper will make Ignatieff look bad come budget time and the GG will be cornered into having an election.
-
Harper has it all made. The longer the coalition sticks together, the better it is for Harper, and the longer the bitter taste is in the mouth of Canadians. If Harper doesn't screw Ignatieff over in the budget, I will not be a happy camper. He has the opposition cornered and bloodied. Hopefully the death blow will come soon. Ignatieff however speaks fine in public. Harper isn't looking for gaffes, he's looking to tie him to the coalition. However the tories need to get some airtime on TV just to get out there. Liberal changes in command tend to bounce the polls in their favor due to the hoopla that goes along with it.
-
Because he is trying to by urban centrist votes. Urban voters more often than not like their gov't services. They also like tax cuts. Plus harper had to look like he's working with the opposition. If Harper slashed spending, you would be crying out that he's heartless. Hating Harper is the new "cool" thing to do in Canada.

Good God what are Quebec voters, a bunch of women? God help you if you buy her an ab flex exercise apparatus for Christmas. The same reaction occured when Harper tried to sell fiscal conservatism.

Planned Mountie pay increases rolled back
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What do yo expect, we're in a financial crisis. Costs have to be cut. However it's better to cut a pay raise than shutting down the training academy like the Liberals did in the 90's which has resulted in a massive staffing crisis. A pay raise cut is a mere pittance to a staffing crisis where having adequate numbers is crucial. The tories don't need to give a reason, the writing is on the wall. -

Stupidest post ever, Argus, a federal civil servant has pointed out why Mulroney had to run deficits in order to pay for the Massive debt that your hero Trudeau put in. -
Planned Mountie pay increases rolled back
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Now according to the Liberals the Mounties are not only greedy and money hungry, they are also stupid and don't know that a financial crisis is going on. If Liberals think that a pay cut is going to piss off the Mounties over the Alternative of shutting down Depot thus depriving them of manpower, the Liberals are not fit for government. Cripes it's not even a pay cut, it's a pay raise cut. But Liberals think that less Mounties around are the best money savers of all, appparently public safety, officer safety/workload don't matter one whit. You've picked a poor topic to try and bash the tories on when the Liberals are guilty of much worse. -

Would you rather your hero Paul Martin come in and shut down Depot and screw the Mounties out of backup again? Do you Liberals like having blood on your hands? -
Planned Mountie pay increases rolled back
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals shut down depot. The RM's I talk to were quite upset about that. I think they will understand that taking a small cut in a pay raise is more than acceptable. They aren't even getting a pay cut. They would rather take a pay cut than be denied manpower. Manpower is their main problem, not pay raises. Apparently according to the Liberals, in order to save money the Mounties have to go without backup. The Liberals would rather make a Mountie's job more dangerous than cutting a pay raise. But according to a Liberal a dead Mountie is the best money saver yet. This is the stupidest partisan hack job you've ever done. -
Exactly, punishing business owners so that skids get a free pass is beyond stupid.

The Coalition needs a name
blueblood replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
At least Harper can say "we tried to work with them" as the opposition votes down the budget and we go to an election. It's all about optics. Harper is planning on smearing them on all angles. I love it. -

Probably thinking "at least they didn't shut down depot and cause the large member shortage like the Liberals did" Lesser of two evils. -
That's what ag economist Don Bosquet was saying. He's never steered me wrong yet. The vast amount of fuel produced kept prices at the pump from really going out of control. The tradeoff was some Mexicans went without tortilla flour. I'm not a fan of the dairy industry capping imports. i don't mind if they collaborate and cap their own production, but the capping of imports fries my bacon because it throws a wrench into every WTO negotiation. Who cares if it's less efficient. More fuel gets exported to the states, more jobs are created, and it increases the value of our exports. Much better than the old fashioned fire hose spending before. It has kept gasoline prices in the US down due to the sheer volume being produced. The federal gov't wisely invests in the Tar Sands projects, is that backwards too?

Keep dreaming. I wager dollars to donuts we go to the polls in January and witness the tory war room operating at full steam ahead.

Do you know what a salary cap is? Take a look at the NHL, and NFL and tell me that having a two tier system will cause our public hospitals to go under. Two tier works in other places.
-
Considering that it's a drop in the bucket, not too bad. The dairy people wouldn't be happy. Ag economists say that without ethanol there would be fuel rationing. It's done its job. It's also increased the value of our exported grain and provided jobs. Sounds like a winner to me. It would also save the forest industry.
