  1. Being as I've clearly stated Harper is done after the next election, I still wouldn't like it if Harper picked Dumont. Harper would no longer be able to play the unity card as the Liberals could dig up that Dumont signed along with the separatists in 95. Dumont would be poison for the tories. Should lay off the pot, it's affecting your judgement capabilities.
  2. A constitutional crisis is Harper's advantage. He can play the coalition card. Why would harper stir up the beehive and not get any honey out of it? Harper has the most to lose by waiting. Waiting gives Ignatieff time. Ignatieff with time gets to establish more credibility, time for the economy to worsen, time to raise money. All Harper risks doing is angering people who won't vote for him anyway.
  3. Looks like Iggy's wanting to play hardball with Harper. Watch for a poison pill put into the budget. ctv Doesn't bode well for the Opposition when Canadians want parliament to work and Harper is "emphasizing" that. Oh well.
  4. I am very confident because given the alternative makes me cringe. I am very confident Harper knows what he is doing, and know this is part of Harper's game to win a majority, which IMO is a good thing. I also like Harper's conduct in question period, he shuts the opposition up and makes them look like the fools they are.
  5. Which is why Harper has to move quickly while Ignatieff is still tied to this coalition, which is grossly unpopular with Canadians. I believe this is Harper's only chance at a majority gov't. I also believe Harper only has one election left. The beauty of unprecedented times is that the GG has to rely more and more on public opinion. If she lets a coalition with seperatists take power without an election, her name is smeared for eternity, no person in the public eye wants that. Harper cannot get a majority gov't the old fashioned way, he has come too far in his little game to stop when he has the opposition making a hail mary play. Harper needs an election with the coalition fresh in everyone's minds, otherwise the chance for another minority gov't on either side vastly increases. I know the GG has other options, but I'm quite confident of the option she will choose.
  6. Way too much baggage, Tories wouldn't be credible for national unity. Dumont is a bad choice.
  7. We all know Harper is going to provoke an election. Nobody in Canadian politics is stupid enough to run on unpopular items such as abortion and execution, oh wait, Dion ran on a carbon tax and fear mongering, fat lot of good it did him. Trying to spread fear like that is what put the Liberals in the opposition chair. More people like games than fear mongering. It's a far better formula than saying Harper is going to put soldiers in the streets with guns. Harper will act like a horse's ass and accuse the opposition of being uncooperative and selfish. It will be a massive PR battle, and it looks like the tories will win it. I think the time is ripe for an election with so much strife in the country. Harper will get his majority, but will be turfed because he will have become toxic.
  8. Yes giving freedoms to an enslaved people is so evil Those darn iraqi's able to live in freedom and Afghan girls able to go to school. GW bush must be such a murderous bastard
  9. Is that the Liberal toaster talking again? Did you not learn anything from 2 election losses, Canadians can't stand Liberal toaster hidden agenda comments. Oh well, that's another tory election in the bag.
  10. Teach a man aquaculture and raising fish in giant tanks, fishing industry saved, gold mine for person who came up with it.
  11. harper and ignatieff are responding with fairly vague answers. harper has already said that he canned the prev. measures, so that leaves them off the table. I wonder what kind of poison pill Harper will put in this time...
  12. Which is why if we should bail out these dinosaurs, there should be some caveats placed on them. Such as the caveat involving no use of corporate jets.
  13. Watch the national tonight. Harper will be on. He has already started his PR war. He's talking out of his ass from what I've read on CBC.ca about working with the opposition. Look for a poison pill in the budget. Harper has his angle and is setting up his "concillatory" image. It'll probably make you sick, and I'll have a good chuckle. It is good strategy however. He's going to try and paint Ignatieff as someone who won't want to work with the gov't.
  14. But socialism does limit opportunity. It punishes people from succeeding. If you succeed you get nailed with taxes. Taxes that can be used to hire workers and grow business and spend money. Canadian style universal health care is poison, private people aren't allowed to open practices and help people. Workers aren't given shares in a company, they work for them - they are earned. Nationalizing industry is complete and utter poison. I have no problem with gov't starting industry, as a taxpayer I get a return on investment, but stealing industry from private firms is flat out evil.
  15. Bullocks. Robert Herjavec. Came to Canada with 20 bucks and is now a multi millionaire. Workers in the oil patch don't have much of an education and can make a fortune providing they're smart enough. There is no oppression in Canada on poor people.
  16. You are trying to justify selling a botched system because everyone charges taxes, people have elections to win. People are poor because at least one of these three criteria are met, they lack drive, they lack intelligence, and/or they lack opportunity. With socialism you are taking opportunity away from people to succeed and everyone is poorer for it. Your irish example of 3 million people shows the lack of opportunity criteria. The other two factors are what happens in Canada, there is plenty of opportunity to succeed, people are either too dumb, or too lazy to go for it. That big market of China is tweet all when they don't have money to buy their products. Take a look what's happening to the auto sector, no money means no buying of crap. Socialism is bad because it punishes people from succeeding. Factory workers making 80 bucks an hour for screwing on lugnuts is punishing consumers and their company's bottom line so they can make a king's ransom for menial work. Argument stands. And people in the US aren't punished for succeeding. The potential for people to enjoy a high standard of living in the US is higher than a number of Western nations. Do you want to know why socialism is unpopular in the US? Because of the American Revolution. Those people flat out rejected being punished for succeeding by having to pay extortional taxes to the United Kingdom. The minute they drove the redcoats from American soil, people realized that punishing it's citizens for succeeding is a recipe for disaster. Western governments realized that punishing its middle and upper class, the middle and upper class will take what it wants.
  17. whats wrong with no treasonous parties allowed in the house of commons? Are people allowed to yell FIRE in a crowded theatre?
  18. I sure wasn't confused. I was laughing my ass off. I though, Harper you are one clever bastard. I don't care if it wasn't nice, shit needs to get done. The Libs fighting a losing battle in their battered state are only hurting themselves. Let Harper have a majority and get your party together. Harper is toxic and will be gone after the next election halfway through his mandate. The CPC has learned the Liberals are week and are going for the kill. I hope Canadians learned that a majority gov't is the most stable. Charest winning in Quebec will be inspiration to install a majority gov't based on the stability angle. Get an election on and let the opposition take their licks, because those licks are coming either in January or when that gong show falls apart.
  19. They have been collecting taxes in the times of monarchs and since Roman times. If you think that is socialism, your out to lunch. For all intents and purposes we draw the line at the US, yes they collect taxes, but they are in no means a socialist country. Their gov't has a capitalist philosophy, so does every other intelligent country in the world. Having a country with a socialist philosophy is not only wrong, but it is evil. If you think people are poor because of capitalism that's a bald faced lie. People are poor because they lack drive, intelligence, and opportunity. Socialism takes opportunity away from people and punishes the people who give it. Ireland is a great example of this. It is one of the most capitalist countries in the world. Instead of screwing business over, they have developed a pro business attitude and slashed taxes. This led to a result of massive foreign investment, massive opportunity, and an unemployment rate Canada can only envy. Countries that have a pro business attitude that slash unnecessary taxes have been proven to be extremely successful and their citizens enjoy a better quality of life. If poor people werent' so blatantly stupid and realized that gouging corporations so they can have welfare and other left wing nonsense screws themselves over, the better off everyone else is. The US won't surrender it's pre-eminence. Without the US the east is a basket case. Case in point right now. China needs customers for its manufacturing. China is about 80 years behind the US. If the US gets energy independance, which it will, the US is back in the ball game. The higher energy rises, the more it hurts China as a manufacturing power. Higher energy means more and more manufacturing stays home because transportation costs will be too expensive. If unions would realize that factory workers have no business earning 80 bucks an hour, the safer their jobs will be in a competitive global market. The US also has the most stable currency in the world, the most efficient army in the world, and it's citizens live better than most other countries in the world. It is in no danger of collapsing no matter how much you want it to. The US maintains it's power through management, it can shut down those factories around the world at the drop of a hat. As BC says, socialism sucks for everybody, capitalism sucks for a few.
  20. Nope a win is a win. If hating on Quebec was such an issue, the PQ would have won.
  21. Time to bail off of this sinking ship would be the message I would get. The Alliance faction will be kicking themselves for deposing of Preston Manning for the reasons he is given this award and for his accomplishments on parliament hill. Having Day as leader was a disaster.
  22. Where does socialism get it's money from? By raiding people's wallets. Capitalism has improved the lives of everyone. The only reason Conservatives employ some socialist means is because they are popular and they have elections to win. Some eastern countries by your logic must have had a stroke of genius and went all out on these "help the poor and screw business" schemes. You tell me which country is better to live in. Socialism is a failure, as August says the NYSE has been around for 200 years and the USSR only lasted for 80. The US is one of the most stable countries in the world. It doesn't have near as many problems as the other "empires". Those great empires have lasted for close to a thousand years. The world is so interconnected now that the chance of a country like the US failing are very very slim.
  23. Citation on that, the compas poll tells 2:1 against the coalition.
  24. Better a Liberal than a commie bastard. Harper took some economic courses and joined "the dark side".
  25. They're saying that the Liberal convention is quite possibly going to be a rubber stamp. Which IMO is good for the party as it really cuts down on unnecessary campaigning expenses. It looks like the MPs will pick Ignatieff and hopefully the convention for the Liberals sake will be a rubber stamp affair. Rae can go fly a kite as far as I'm concerned.
