  1. She said half of trumps supporters were the "-ists" straight up. People got tired of being associated with being defined as an "ist". Especially when being called an ist with no evidence. That's a big reason why she lost. Everyone agrees that an "ist" is wrong, however throwing that word around to shut down debate to solve problems is also wrong and people were tired of being labeled as such.
  2. I think your missing the point. What your saying isn't wrong, just something missing. Nobody is arguing that there aren't jack asses supporting either candidate. However when Hillary publicly said that an extremely large proportion of trump supporters are deplorables, a lot of people who are considering change got turned off the democrats. Every person is a potential voter and to write people off like that was a big mistake. plenty of trump supporters were also intimidated in kind. The problem is you didn't hear trump calling potential Hillary supporters deplorable in spite of his many "gems" the problem is if you were a voter who wanted to vote republican because you didn't agree with high regulations high taxes and obamacare to be implied that you are deplorable is a big turn off. I mean Hillary said a substantial amount of trump supporters are deplorable. What's deplorable, being a stormfronter or someone who wants a republican in office? It's a bad message and continued with the democrats and Hollywood knows best that a lot of reasonable people got sick of and voted the bums out.
  3. Clueless enough to win the senate, house, presidency, state legislatures... clueless enough to know that low tax policies create growth, clueless enough not to be cowed by Hollywood celebrities.
  4. The left doesn't get it. How did "the basket of deplorables" go? Talking down to people has the democrats at one of their lowest seat counts in history...
  5. His wacky 3 am tweets help get his message out. Nothing like twitter to circumvent the media. Enough people liked his wackiness to win the White House
  6. I put New England with New York for the sake of brevity. If you want to split hairs fine. Either way 21 out of 51 wasn't enough. The areas that voted for her were the northeast, the west coast, Colorado New Mexico, Illinois and Minnesota - that's a lot of alphabet soup to get the point across many more states voted for trump this time and many more states voted for Obama twice previously
  7. The regulations in regards to private insurance. Many regulations make for pricey care. Sort of like the defence industry with private contractors insulated with govt guarantees. They can charge anything.
  8. Why does the alt left lie? New England along with the west coast is about 20 states. God forbid there's some estimating. Trump won the popular vote in more states!
  9. It's not completely private in the USA. It's cronyism based on excessive govt regulations. Take laser eye surgery for example, completely private and the costs of obtaining such are dropping like a rock. As for the USA healthcare being inefficient canadas is much worse. How long for a hip surgery, stem cell treatment? Pretty sad when Canadians are heading there to get work done and paying there when they could pay here.
  10. It was still balanced. Selling furniture is good as it's in the hands of private business which is far more efficient. The child tax was a waste to begin with.
  11. Which is the difference in population. California enjoys a significant influence in the house vs Wyoming and at the electoral college.
  12. As referred to in the electoral college. 55 electors for California. However that's their problem if the other states don't agree with them. The president is president of the USA not New England and California hence the electoral college.
  13. They are distributed by population. The governor of California has more influence than the governor of Wyoming and the prosperity of California vs wyoming is reflected at the state level. The president of the USA is president of all of USA not just California and New England and the electoral college reflects that. Sometimes states agree with California and New England sometimes they don't.
  14. Economists come in all shapes and sizes. We both know that. The deficit grew this year. And commodities are going to trade sideways until the USA takes off. The deficit is a problem as it money from the budget has to pay it back. Interest rates won't stay low forever. I remember double digit interest and things could very well go back that way when the USA grows and has to curb inflation. A 65 cent dollar is back on the table which in itself is a tax of sorts on consumers. A 65 cent dollar with a carbon tax which makes our products even more expensive is a problem. Going into deficit for the sake of going into deficit is foolish. Ontario is bleeding industry and in Alberta industry is biding their time until notley gets out. It's going to be a tough decade...
  15. Haper did clear it. The economy went a bit into deficit because of low commodity prices, however the taps were open wide for un seat buying, the CBC, etc. And the carbon tax won't pay for any of it and will in fact make things worse
  16. I didn't approve Harper going that far into the red, but he had a plan and got out of his big deficit. However Trudeau is trying to buy a seat at the un, is spending on waste, imposing a tax which makes us uncompetitive. There's deficit because funds are dried up, and then there is waste. Trudeau doesn't even have a plan to get us out of deficit and when the USA is going to slash their rates, we are very uncompetitive. There's going to be no carbon tax in Australia and the USA. Look at what Gerald Butts ideas have done to Ontario - spending piles of money with nothing to show for it.
  17. And that is reflected in the electoral college. California has 55 electors, Florida 29, etc. Yet it reflects the need that the regions have to come together to pick the president. Very fair.
  18. The tea leaves said otherwise. It would have been the third election in three years and the people would have been outraged. They played politics and won a majority in 2011 which resulted in the deficit being slayed at the end. Harper actually kept his promise on it. Trudeau lied about how big the deficit would be. Trudeau is vague about ending the deficit as he blew his promise greatly.
  19. That depends on the economy. Harper won a majority without Quebec and O'Leary could very well do the same. If the economy keeps being sluggish the NDp will gain votes on the left and the Tories will come up the middle.
  20. The difference is that the Irish deficit is shrinking and Canada's is growing. Yet the Irish did it without touching their corporate rate. Canada had its deficit cleared as Harper walked out the door. As to corporate inversions that's thanks to their low tax rate which makes for a competitive environment.
  21. People did vote. There has to be balance between the regions to maintain the federation or it splits. What's the point of having a large country if only the people from a small part dictate what goes on to the rest of it?
  22. They did make them do it. It was go huge into deficit or have an election
  23. No it's not a travesty. That's the electoral college which prevents California and New England dictating their will to the rest of the country. It's fair as the mayor of Los Angeles has more Influence than the governor of North Dakota. The system has to account for uneven population distribution and it's still democratic. if the leftists want to get power back their message should appeal to people in the other parts of the country.
  24. Also to add Harper had policies which made our economy predictable, investor friendly, and had slayed the deficit after the recession. I had a lot more confidence with Martin and Harper in charge. Trudeau is not Martin.
  25. Interest rates can still get high for government ask Mulroney. i don't buy all the trump stuff. His stance in free trade is proposterous. However cutting taxes to 15% from their high levels is a good start. trump also advocates for budgets to be brought into balance which means he will piss people off and cave to Ryan cutting spending. Irelands tax rates were well below average for OECD and the Irish put the screws to the Obama administration. Apple sure liked setting up shop there...
