Im pretty sure that the tories saw what was going on with people over leveraging themselves on cheap credit to play keep up with the jones's on their houses and publically said for people to get their heads out of their ass and went and put the brakes somewhat on the madness. We farm boys learned our lesson from that madness in the 1980s when many took their bath... And there is a place for using debt financing for growth, unfortunately some people are a lot more risky than others. For example if i want to make a major purchase, i could cut a check, or i can make payments on it with the cash on hand as collateral. Ill do that as it allows me some flexibility in case of an emergency. But guys borrowing against their house, yikes!! Commodities have a way of fluctuating. In the 80s with making farmland payments, guys were having their land taken away as collateral as the value kept dropping. It was an ugly trap.

Trudeau has essentially been shut out of rural agricultural canada which carries with it seats and a sizeable portion of the resource sector. Liberal governments have tended to go not so well for people in this part of the world given cultural differences to urban canadians that voted the liberals in.

Stockwell day was an alliance guy who was one of the better ministers in cabinet, religious beliefs and all. Doug ford sounds like a pc guy and well doug ford sideshow.

I wonder if gary doer will be getting called back from washington and if he feels like eventually taking over the federal ndp. Harper stashed him there for a reason...

Also in the spirit of keeping things on track lol, the majority govt has been touted by investors as positive for stock markets as there is stability for four years and firms can have a sense if direction the govt is taking and said firms can make decisions accordingly. If my team was to lose, i wanted a liberal majority for that reason alone.
-
Lol yeah for left of centre people hoping for another liberal majority govt. My team doesnt need a sideshow

Of course hes going to say no when his party up for election and he has one if the highest approval ratings there is.

And ireland is slated to fall below 100% debt to gdp at the end if the year along with a 6% growth forecast. The article says further tax cuts are a possibility http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/10/ireland-economy-surges-with-gdp-growth-forecast-at-6 The article illustrates my point that low taxes do aid in achieving growth and not necessarily spending all iver the place. Unfortunately for us, we dont have a large enough population to consume our way out of essentially our econony being stuck in first gear as with finances for infrastructure growth. Essentially unfortunately for us we have to wait until china gets its house in order and a lot of businesses that drive canadas economic growtg arent in the service sector but the resource and production sector where these types of businesses dont have the luxury of firing clients. This is feeling like the 70s all over again...

I agree. Ireland was one of the piigs and in serious hot water. It fought tooth and nail to keep its rock bottom corporate tax rate. Now its seeing the benefits...

Harper ran balanced budgets before. He never intended on running massive deficits, not only that he balanced said budget. However trudeau right out of the gate wants to run deficits. He may have a plan, but politicians are known to be full of it. Hopefully i get proven wrong and it's balanced in 4 yrs

A question that arises is what kind of infrastructure. Apparently the red book has "social" infrastructure and buzzwords like that. The bc liberals are pretty much the same as the sask party fiscally. Its too bad, in 08 when people were asking for deficit spending and the spigot was opened, that would have been an opportunity to throw down an energy east pipeline or look into upgrading the trans canada highway in ontario to name a few.
-
Thats all fine and good, however ontario has been playing this game for some time and has got its credit rating chopped. They had their books cleaned up with harris and at first it was a small deficit. Its the slippery slope that "us conservatives" are worried about and we have seen and or lived through the dangers of a govt that deficit spends too much. A lot of infrastructure got build and the national debt was a lot smaller, so what gives?
-
As to all the high fiving of excessive deficit spending, one must remember the bond vultures who had to deal with trudeau sr's first spending spree... Interest rates can and do rise and if economic conditions warrant, they will rise again. If too much is borrowed out, it still has to get paid back. As for living forever, how much of our decendants economy should be taxed to pay for more borrowing. The more we can hack off the principal, thats lower interest payments yet still enjoying the same services.

Not necessarily what i wanted, but it could have been worse.
-
Yeah they are. People are buying into that particular vision of canada and majorities are typically stable. Elections still happen. Its still a democracy
-
The tories look hard pressed to cross 100 seats. Looks like a maj.
-
Their disruptiveness served a purpose though, for parties not to take the regions for granted.
-
Ah, its showing they ran the board with atlantic canada
-
I think we may be headed towards an era of majority govts.
-
Already? I know they have atlantic canada all sown up.

Truth about Justin Trudeau and the Liberals

Private enterprise is extremely efficient at getting things to people. I have broadband internet thanks to private enterprise, the latest research into ag practices is dominated by private enterprise, medicinal research again private enterprise, and this is to name a few. Resources are always scarceand have to be allocated and this is seen in healthcare. In the usa its done thru cost, and up here its wait times. The usa has one of the "sickest" populations due to a large part of their negligence to their health as they expect their insurance to bail them out for their stupidity. -
Ill just check up here. Plugging away in the shop tonight.
