If Trump dies in office, every Trumpster would assume it was an assassination, no matter how many docs certified it as natural causes or normal course of an illness. Much better for the world if he's voted decisively out of office and continues to live a long life, descending the rest of the way into dementia.

Why doesn't the Feds just buy the agricultural produce from farmers to keep them producing? If hospitals can be built in a matter of days, surely humonguous storehouses can easily come up as well in strategic places! At least, that ensures that we don't have any shortages. They can be temporary suppliers to grocery stores, and can supply Food Banks and other charities. Any surplus can be exported to help other struggling nations.
The preparations made in the Biblical famine of the Joseph narrative comes to mind.

That is a good idea. But for the immediate problem that we face now - food shortage is very likely looming if farmers stop producing as they used to (because of restaurants being closed), maybe the Feds should step in and offer assurances to them by buying up the products that normally go to restaurants.
I don't know if this is a reason why we've got eggs shortage. There is a limit to eggs we can buy here where I live which is only 20-30 minutes from Ottawa. Costco is said to have empty shelves for some meat products too, I'm not sure if they're talking about here or the US.

Nescafe that normally sells for $4.95 now priced at $7.95! I suppose, brewing coffee will be next!
Also, I wanted to pickle some eggs, but there's a limit to how much eggs you can buy! You can only have 2 cartons!

Lets hope your example was just random. However food producers are sounding alarms food production is collapsing. Farmers report spring crops are not being harvested, they are being left to rot in the ground. Meat producers shuttering and throwing away tons of meat. Dairy farms pouring away milk, and having to "de-populate" the animals used for meat.
What we eat now is already in the food system and from food stored in warehouses. New fresh food may become scarce if we dont change certain things as soon as possible.

Trudeau had publicly stated that beef prices could go up - I imagine, if he's stated that at the briefing, then prices could really jack up. I think it'll be most food products too.
