They want people to forget about the economy and inflation. The housing shortages.........and all the most relevant "disasters" that actually impact most Canadians. They want to distract from the reality happening on the streets!
So......they show us scary movies.
Every storm is a big news!

What a bummer! The storm went OFF-SCRIPT! ?
Instead of the anticipated catgory 3 - it weakened to categoty 1!
But CBC still has to maintain its desired scary narratibe - comparing it with storm surges brought on by Katrina, and other storms! "There'll be floodings.....and drownings...." ?

It was a Cat 3 storm at landfall. That's a significant storm.
-
It went off script so I guess they'll just have to come up with another one...

Well - CTV says: Toronto hadn't reached the 30's in August. Must be bad. ?

I remember years - even last year, and the year before, and before that - heat temperatures during the summer reaching 35, sometimes even 39! I would plan my day to make sure I was inside before 10 am.

@Aristides - we should ban air travel!
And cruise liners!
And houses should be downsized drastically!
How is that for starters?

Canadian Tire - going cashless?
Only one cashier accepts cash. The rest are all cashless.
I hate being coerced and manipulated.

Lol, when i see an old lady counting out pennies - or, a very slow cashier for that matter - I go to another line. But you're not given any choice now with Canadian Tire.
I do hope that skimmer scam with those check-out debit machines found at Walmart in USA wouldn't come here. What are the chances?

The problem with doing away with cash for me? It gives the system, and whoever is at the helm at the time, too much control.
But that’s not the end game, they want even more control. CBDC will give them that. It’s a global strategy that country after country will be bringing in. Most countries have CBDC waiting in the wings.
That means it’s a global strategy. And those with critical thinking skills then ask, who is behind a global push to CBDC?

Cash is not going away. There are still uses for cash. But for retail it's quickly going out of style. People, by and large, don't want to carry cash on them. You can be a target of theft and it's a sunk cost that you've already withdrawn a pre-set amount of cash as opposed to using the cash or credit you need for a specific transaction at POS.
A Cash-only line is like having an Express line.

Here's the real reason for The Split:

Commonwealth Games cancelled in Australia. The reason: 67 Billion dollars.
Oh, dear. They're looking for a replacement.....no one's coming forward to volunteer.
What are the chances Trudeau will step in to save the day?
-
A billion is a thousand million dollars
There were 5,000 athletes at the 2022 Commonwealth games
Sixty-seven thousand million dollars is almost thirteen and a half million dollars spent per athlete.
-
You forgot a decimal point. The estimate is 6 to 7 billion. The original estimate was 2 billion.
QuoteCGF said the estimate of A$6bn is double the figure they were advised of at a board meeting last month, and that the increase in costs were due to the "unique regional delivery model" that Victoria chose for the games.
Sounds like they just let the project get away from them.

Toronto spent a bit north of 2 billion for the Pan Am Games in 2015. 7 Billion is absurd.
