  1. Scream racism all you want, it’s true. Just the other day a black comic on the comedy network said “I’m an intellectual, educated black guy – so it’s inevitable that one white guy in our group will say something to me like: “You are just so cool, sometimes I forget your even black.” White people treat blacks like accessories. As in “aren’t I wonderful? I am friends with a black person!” Madonna adopting a black baby is just that – she has bought herself an accessory. She is essentially saying “Aren’t I wonderful? I am going to spend my billions on this one child that I have saved from a life of poverty and blackness!” Why not just give his parents the start THEY need to raise their own child. If he doesn’t have parents why not give his community the start they need to raise the child. Show off white rich bitch. IMO.
  2. s'matter jbg? No response? No misspelled words to quote for us?
  3. Religion has worked for many years CONTROLLING the masses. Have it your way we will all be barbecuing one another for dinner. Did you even check out the website or is this a knee-jerk reaction? We instinctively don't wantonly kill one another. Basic "morality" is inate in our species as it is in all animal species.
  4. Good website for us non-believers... noreligion.ca
  5. Better put, homosexual activity serves no biological or species-preservation purpose. Also, it leads to the kind of misconduct as characterized Sodom and Gomorrah. How do you know the bible is not a work of fiction? You base your beliefs on a novel, a book written by human beings. Soddom and Gomorrah is a story, a tale, like Stephen King's books.
  6. In BC, they're written in Canadian. The signs will refer to an obviously mis-spelled "Harbour Bridge" (as it does in Sydney, Australia, which also uses Canadian), not "Harbor Bridge". English pronunciation is "har-boor", not "har-bow-er". Actually, it's HAR-BORE. Spelled harbour. The U does not sound like a W. As in NeigbOURhood -- it is pronounced NAY-BORE-HOOD. And ColOUR -- which is pronounced, CULL-OR This is how we spell words here in Canada (and Australia I guess). Could be because of the fact that we, and Australia, remained British colonies and the USA did not. So we continue to use the British spellings. (which IS proper English I might add -- so who actually IS misspelling words here?) So, no dear jbg, it is not misspelled. *** this is example of an American with tunnel vision who figures the world revolves around America and assumes that everything an American does is done correctly -- WRONG!
  7. colour - color theatre - theater centre - centre neighbourhood - neighborhood favour - favor What's the big deal? So we pronounce words slightly differently. And Canada has two official languages -- English and French. We use a combination of the two. No need to get yer knickers in a knot. and I know very very little French (being from the west) but I am certainly not offended by our "other" language. C'est la vive (such is life) How's your Spanish coming along?
  8. I agree about the 3 strikes for violent crime and for repeat offenders. But how much will incarcerating an individual for life cost?
  9. That's a real shame Kimmy I have a really good friend in Iran. She covers her head and sometimes her face. She looks sooo exotic and beautiful in her hijab. Her beautiful almond shaped eyes are all you see. Of course as her friend, she has sent me pics of herself without cover and she is beautiful and exotic! I love Sari's too but with my blonde hair I just don't look quite right in one LOL If you become friends with a woman who covers up in public, she will uncover her face so you can see her. It's a modesty thing. Not a religious put-women-in-their-place thing. It is both. I'm sure some women wear it for that reason. I'm equally sure that the young girls I see wearing it are told to by their parents, and that many of the older girls and young women wear it because of family and group pressure which says that if she doesn't she's ungodly and something of a whore. And really, modesty requires hiding yourself? What does that say about the patriarchial culture that was drummed into their heads when young? Isn't it a basic tenet of feminism that women should not feel like they need to hide themselves away, but should wear whatever they damned well feel like it, and that it's up to men to mind their behaviour, no matter what? We have a whole series of laws in place to prevent pretty young women from being harrassed, physically, verbally, or in any other way. Choosing to hide yourself away from men instead is derived from a culture where no such protections were ever offered up. It is not necessary in Canada. Choosing to go that path is a rejection of those societal constructs built up by feminism to protect women who choose to expose a little flesh, or to look sexy or just pretty. And its a rejection of those women too - in effect, saying "You're dressing like a whore. You should ress modestly like me. If something happens to you it's your fault." On that note, why do we western women where clothing at all during the summer? Why don't we walk around boobies on high for all to see? Is it because we are oppressed by our men, or is it because we'd really rather not have all men ogling our breasts. It's all a mattter of perception. What about those mormon women who wear really long skirts, are they oppressed by their men too? Modesty means different things to different people. And at different ages. Used to be I wore a mini all the time. Now I never wear a skirt above the knee. I've become more modest as I get older, no man has told me I cannot wear minis.
  10. This is of course assuming there is life after death. Me, I believe we simply wink out like a light bulb. We have approx 80 or so years on this earth. Better make the best of it, 'cause that's all there is folks. In times of strife we look to anyone to "look after us". A "Daddy". As in "Oh, please Daddy, let me be ok in my time of trouble". We are such an immature species. Dancer gets my vote! As a logical human being I just cannot believe in an "almighty" sitting on high, judging our actions. Does this entity judge the actions of my cat too? He clawed my leg the other day -- is he going to burn in hell? LOL

  12. If the church accepts homosexuals as parishioners then they should also accept and perform their marriages ceremonies. It would be rather hypocritical if they didn't: "Great, thank you very much for the tithing but no, we won't marry you, you sinners!"
  13. Excellent! I pictured Lucy pulling the ball away before Charlie Brown gets to kick it.... again!
  14. 2 and a half. By why am I justifying my behaviour to you? You, who equates a swat on a diapered bum to abusing a child. I was obviously wrong -- you must be an extreme left winger who believes children are tiny adults. And that one can reason with a 2 year old. Face it, there is no predicting when an individual with go nuts and do crazy things. It happens. It's not the fault of society, the neighbours, or social services.
  15. The church won't know until someone blows the whistle on the guilty priest. They could try preventing admittance to priesthood by doing the same screening they do for daycares I guess....but then again, perverts still manage to get into daycares despite criminal checks. We still hear of abuses every now and then. I think parents should be more vigilant now. If my son needs to practice for the choir, I'll be there with him. And if I'm a priest, I'd make sure I'm not left alone with any minors or women...just so to prevent any gossips or any doubts. It's sad that an honest priest, boyscout leader, big brother volunteer, or whoever cannot be alone with a child. What a sad society we live in! The bad ones have ruined it for the good ones. My hubby volunteers with Cadets and we always make sure there is more than one parent and cadet who comes along. Just to be sure. This is also to protect the parents from false accusations. So I understand the need to keep the investigations under wraps. But if and when they are found guilty they should be paraded in public.
  16. You are so right. A couple needs to go into it believing it will last a lifetime. And it's vital, as you said, to be on the same page, to have the same values. It helps alot if you can marry your best friend.
  17. Well, Charles you and your vigilante justice busters make me sick. You'd have a child taken away from a mother "just in case" that spanking the neighbour saw was a sign of much wider abuse. Thankfully we have a social system that does work in some instances. It works a helluva lot better than vigilante neighbours. While I've never been a fan of social services I am glad they were there if only to "rein in" the crazy lady who wanted to take my child. I think we should take away your guns "just in case" you go crazy. (You are obviously volatile enough). I think we should lock people like you up "just in case" your frothing at the mouth goes beyond simple words. People like you do scare me. With your holier-than-thou attitude. Your "Father Knows Best" 1950's backass mentality.
  18. Yup, a number of years ago I had a woman "intervene". I was at the grocery store and needed to discipline my then 2 year old who was doing what two year olds do, having a fit in the store. I spanked his bottom and she came along screaming at me that I was abusing my child. The following week, lo and behold, a social worker showed up to see "how we lived" and "if everything was ok." Turned out it was. If the woman had the authority to take away my child she would have. As it were the social worker knew exactly what a 2 year old can be like in the grocery store and I got to keep my child. She would have taken my child for absolutely no reason and my son would have grown up with no mother. Grrrreat. Donating to charity is already a tax writeoff. While I don't always agree that social services is doing a good job, they are necessary as stated in the above example.
  19. evrything i evr neaded to lern i lernd frum teevee. I am not opposed to paying additional school fees. I can afford it. For those who cannot afford it the fees should be covered by the school district. This is how it works already in BC so I don't see why there is a problem.
  20. The killing of these children has nothing to do with political leftness or rightness. If you had your ideal society with no social programs, how exactly would your ideal society have dealt with this situation? Would your ideal society been able to find and weed out this problem before it occurred? If so, how?
  21. Don't kid yourself. If she wasn't in the right frame of mind to begin with.. ie happy with herself, then no orgasm would be forthcoming. Really has nothing to do with your tool at all. Sorry. Of course, nothing is easier to fake than an orgasm.
  22. A wrecking ball is an outside force. An airplane is also an outside source. Yes, by explosives. Deliberately place explosives. True. I personally believe that the World Trade Centre was brought down by deliberately placed explosives. Many studies have been done and the truth will come out eventually. Regardless of all the kooky conspiracy theories out there -- one of them is the truth. The official version certainly isn't. Maybe in a few years after the collapse of the American (and by default the Canadian one too) economy and the impeachment of GW we will finally know who was truly behind the attacks. I for one, don't accept the "pap" being fed to us by the Bush Administration. Americans are not stupid, they will get to the bottom of it and the truth will be known.
  23. Indeed. As a non-believer all this quibbling over religious freedoms has nothing to do with me. If I want to have booze in the cab (unopened of course -- duh) I will have booze in the cab. After all the reason I'm taking the cab is because it is illegal in this country to drive under the influence. Cab drivers should know this and accept it or don't drive a cab. If it's against your religion to be near booze, don't go into a bar, don't drive drunks home. If it's against your religion to have an abortion, don't have one. Easy innit? IMO religion should be kept at home and at church. It has no place in the public arena at all.
  24. If building always fall into their own footprints why do we need demo crews? Why all the regualtion when demolishing a building? Why not just hit it with a wrecking ball once and watch it fall into it's own footprint? No need for safety as the building will fall perfectly straight down. Those demolition crews are hiring way too many employees just to make sure a building doesn't topple over and hit other buildings/people. The building will naturally fall exactly in it's own footprint -- especially if you hit it with the wrecking ball on the top few floors. No kidding! All buildings naturally fall into their own footprints. It's physics! /end sarcasm.
  25. Although I agree with you that those of us in the west have more in common with those in the pacific northwest, we still are Canadians. They are still Americans. I am proud of my Canadian heritage -- I'm 12.5% Metis, 25% French Canadian, 50% German, 12.5% unknown and 100% Canadian. I don't believe a merging our countries is a good idea as we have differing philosophical ideals. A good trade relationship, however, is crucial.
