It is only because of our secular society that we are not living in a theocracy. America was founded on the basis of "no particular religion" by the Freemasons. Hence human rights, hence freedom of/from religion. The only condition is that a freemason (and by proxy the president) believe in "a" god. Any god -- any higher power. Christianity played no part in building this society. And that is a very good thing! Look up the ancient history of freemasonry.... you'll see.

Absolutely Remiel. Its a rare woman says with distain "Ewww that's men's work! I ain't doin' it!" There are those out there who will feign weakness or fear in the face of "men's" work. IE, killing spiders, getting a load of wood, etc. I lived by myself in a little cabin when my son was little. I had to pack water, chop wood and kill (or capture for my son) BIG spiders! -- those were some of the most satisfying (and tiring) days of my life.

What, women who no longer experience PMS are not women anymore? What are they? Old hags? There is still life after 60, you know. I hear there's still sex at 80! I mean, talk about prejudice.... That's not what I meant and you know it. Once PMS is done, menopause takes over... I don't know whether to look forward to that or not... end of bitchiness -- onset of hot flashes... sucks either way IMO. Mine tried that... once. But I taught him how to get it perfect, just the way I like it.

Equality means doing things that aren't easy... like leaving the children at daycare. The woman that burst into tears... could be she was just having a horomonal week... I freaked on a teenager who made a nasty face at me the other day... horomonal outburst. What gets me is that some women want equality but don't know what it means. It doesn't mean being looked after. I'm still a woman, even though I have a career. I still experience PMS, I still cry at sad movies. Being a feminist doesn't make me less of a woman. Not wanting to stay home, not feeling guilty about not having warm cookies ready at 3pm -- these things don't make career women unfeminine. We are not man-haters. We are all about sharing equally in the financial and emotional wellbeing of the family. And my son has learned that women are not there to wait on him. That he can't expect everything to be done for him when he walks in the door. One of my coworkers, she stayed home for 14 years and is now starting her career. Every day at lunch she runs home and gets dinner prepared. What of her 14 yo? Her 12 yo, her 10 yo, her 8 yo? Can't they do it? Can't they start dinner prep? Her boys and husband are used to her taking care of everything so they have no clue how to do any "woman's" work. So there she is, hubby and boys come home to play/rest and she runs around like a chicken trying to do everything! Where is the equality there? If she had been working from the get go, her boys and husband would share the burden because they would have grown up with a mom that works, they would be used to doing chores and prepping for dinner, etc. Her 4 boys are going to grow up believing they will find a wife who will do all the things mom does. Good luck to them.

Everybody in our society has automatic washers & dryers, running water and disposable diapers. There are, of course, some people that don't have washers and dryers but they are not washing their clothes by hand, they go to the laundromat. We all have running water and I have yet to talk to a mom who uses cloth diapers on a regular basis. Housewives today have it so much easier than generations before. It is a priveledge in this day and age to stay home and have only a home to look after. Most every couple I know shares the financial and emotional wellbeing of the family as well as the cleaning/cooking chores.

No. I'm in sales. The customer buys - I earn. As I'm not ready yet to move up the ladder (only been here 3 years), I have had no reason to "compete" for a higher level position. Most of the "higher ups" are men. Few are women. But that is changing. Years ago no one would've ever thought to hire a female sales rep so I have hope that when I am ready, I will be able to move up the ladder unhindered.

Yah but what if I like the party but not the candidate? Joe Blow is an a-hole, but his party is the party I want running the country. Do I abstain from voting, vote for a different party or suck it up and vote for Joe A-hole for the good of the cause?

Well said.

Why do I think being a stay at home mom is not "work". Automatic washers & dryers Pilsbury dough Running water Dishwashers Disposable diapers Mop n Glow Need I continue? No stay at home mom in this day and age can say that they work as hard as our mothers and grandmothers. So yes, I work harder than the stay at home mom. I am compensated, however, as I earn money -- I don't work for free! There are certainly days where I wish I could stay home. I get my house clean in under 2 hours so I'd have all day to play on the computer or whatever... but those days are few and far between, mostly I love working. I suppose it's because I was raised to be a "career woman". My mother discouraged me from having children -- she was miserable being a housewife, but didn't have much choice in the 60's. I'm glad women fought so that we would not have to put up with the drudgery (?) of housework with no options. Good on them early feminists!

The cheating man has no responsibility of an affair? Blame it all on the other woman... after all how can any man resist a sexy woman. Poor, weak men need wives to protect them -- they have no mind of their own so they can't possibly be responsible for what their genitals do? Who is the man hater now? You believe men cannot control their urges -- that they are not responsible and cannot say "no" to a woman.

Of course it makes a difference. There are women (and men) who are miserable in their marriages because of disagreements about "traditional" and "non-traditional" roles in the family. No one said all men want wives like Mrs. Cleaver. It's unrealistic in 2006. Interesting yes, because it is a report on today's view of the roles in marriage -- which have changed, like it or not, from those a generation ago. Of course. If a couple isn't honest with one another from the beginning then the marriage won't work. I'm not married, but we do live together. Some of the things we do are "traditional" roles. For example, I clean the toilet and he cuts the lawn... I'm glad you've found a good husband who treats you well regardless of your decision to work or not. (Sorry, but no, being a housewife is not a "job" in 2006, its just too easy to be called "work" IMO) They make up half of the population, of course men are important! I love men. Strong, sexy, huggable, intelligent men... mmmmmmmm.

...and the responsibility for this lies directly on the shoulders of those dead kids... NOT! .... or wait -- their parents because they voted to have the Lord's prayer taken out of schools.. ... but wait -- what about those who pray to Allah and have died? Would the Lord's prayer have helped them? Funny how when a non believer gets called ridiculous, s'okay... when clearly the poster is "knocking" my non belief... So, it's ok to bash an agnostic or atheist, but not someone who believes in an invisible dad?

I just wanted to say that this quote is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If your implying that God himself should come down here to fix everything, then it's assumed that you believe he's real. we Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. No need to call my opinion ridiculous. My opinion is that there is no such thing as a "god". Humans invented the notion of god to help them because darn it, life is sometimes tough -- so tough that we humans need to believe there is a someone who will take care of us. IF gods were "real" then he/she/it/they would be intelligent enough to know that her/his/its/they were no longer being "believed in". Hey if I had an ant farm and I created their whole little world and wanted them to *worship me, I certainly would show my face at least once per generation. I would not expect my little ants to believe a book written by other ants. *How big an ego does an entity have to need to be "worshipped"? God sounds like a mafia boss!

But it sounds like you blame the women!? These women have no power whatsoever. They (unlike most Christians) take their "bible" literally and if it says women are second class citizens then they believe it. The men of course, are in a position of power and will do nothing to change the powerlessness of the women.

So "black" churches are different than "white" churches? What religion do these black folks adhere to in "their" churches?

Actually the sun revloves around the earth, which was created 6.000 years ago. Dinosaur bones are tricks placed there by satan to throw us off and make nonbelievers of us.

Gibberish. Your post makes absolutely no sense. "women are rather absurd and continue to demean themselves to their own demise." ??

Somebody, back a while made the mistake of calling "it" global warming. When in fact it's actually global climate change. Some places will be colder, some warmer. I believe that the earth is going through a natural cycle -- albeit helped along somewhat by industrial pollution. Reducing our emmissions, reducing the amount of garbage we produce, etc. is just being responsible citizens. It won't change the fact that the globe is warming, it won't reverse the earth's warming trend, but it might (big might) slow it down a bit, a tiny bit. Within a 100 years some coastal cities will be underwater. People should move inland.

Hey you guys elected him, no? Obviously the fake passports worked. Those people got out of Iran on Canada's dime. They arrived safely and happily home. If the passports didn't work, those people would have been killed in Iran. Yah, Regan weren't no pussy... just an actor. What does any of this have to do with Air traffic controllers? -
While it's nice to be able to stay home and raise the little ones, staying at home until they have moved out is unrealistic. But that's not what this thread is about -- it's about prejudice against women. Which do still exist even in our modern western societies. It's much much worse, of course, in other countries around the world where women are routinely mutilated, etc. Personally I'm rather glad some stay home to raise their babies. One woman, my competitor, is gone off to have her second child. I'm really hoping she stays home so I can scoop up all her clients! Betsy, did you read the links? I wasn't quoting a sitcom from the 50s. (sigh... gotta *reiterate everything) It was a news article. A news article pointing out the fact that most men don't want a domestic slave and most women don't want to be one. *reiterate -- repeat, say again, recap, retell

Indeed. Separatists are traitors. Their entire goal is to undermine the country. Throw 'em all in jail.

Yes it was Canada who bailed the hostages out. Our Prime Minister Joe Clark made secret deals to get fake Canadian passports for them so they could get out. We broke our own laws (fake passports) to save your people. Did Carter make the world hate America? Bush has. I was rather young then and didn't follow even homegrown politics letalone yours. Re the Iran Hostage Crisis, I saw a documentary on it a while back. Good program, btw. A "forever" deal made by one government does not mean "forever" when the next government gets in... So you're crying that your govt gave back something that wasn't theirs in the first place. If we follow your reasoning, Canada oughta go into Pakistan and take back those Candu reactors -- we built 'em, we should own 'em! -
Good Wifes Guide ... a good wife always knows her place. Was this equality? Come on now. Get real. The feminists of the 60s fought so that we could be free of this domestic slavery. I will consider myself a feminist until all the backass attitudes of the past have died away. Today's mature man doesn't really want a slave... he wants a partner. Today's mature woman doesn't want a daddy... she wants a partner. Check out: Do men really want wives like June Cleaver?

Oh Drea, at least from your response, I've learned a new word: succinct. I looked it up in the Liberal dictionary. It sez, "a word of many meanings. All on a continuum. Ranging from not at all succinct...to very, very, very succinct. At the extreme end of the succinctness spectrum lies, so succinct: that's the point when there's actually nothing said at all. It's only a fantasy. May also refer to Imagine." Succinct means consise. Black Dog is very consise. There is no such thing as a "liberal" dictionary. A dictionary is a book full of word definitions. And no, I'm not going to the google dictionary to get a link for you. Look it up yourself. I already know what it means. I learned the word "succinct" back in about grade 8. I figured even domestic engineers went up to grade 8.. but perhaps I'm wrong...
