I see many young fathers today fully participating in their children's lives. Participating a lot more than the men of my father's generation. The former do everything from participating (as much as possible LOL) in the birth to changing diapers and taking time off work to care for the new baby. I'd bet money that my father, and those of his generation, never ever changed a diaper or looked after a crying infant in the middle of the night! Sometimes it is the father's fault. Sometimes the mother's. One cannot just make blanket statements that all family court decisions are "for" the mother. Regarding crimes and gangs -- why does Dad not come around more often? Sometimes it's because the mother won't let him (he can fight for visitation rights in court) but oftentimes it's because he's just too lazy or has gotten on with his "new" life. I've never known a person who was raised by homosexual parents. Have you? Until there are children grown to adulthood in such families we will not know the implications and therefore cannot offer a truly informed opinion.

As far as I know birth control is not covered by medical unless you are on welfare, have very low income or have extended medical through your employer. If a woman is already on welfare or has a very low income, would it not be prudent to "let" her have this pill to prevent us taxpayers from paying for a kid for 18 years? It should also be available through school nurses/counselors. A girl could just go to the office and get it -- along with a package of condoms and a good scare about STD's.

You would shut down legitimate discussion about who we let into Canada since according to you, anyone who objects to immigrants must be obsessed with skin colour. Seems that way to me. Welcome! You'll find that you -- being from a northern state -- probably have much more in common with Ontarians than with your cousins in say, Alabama. We are divided politically; with the Conservatives being right of centre (but not as far right as your Republicans), the Liberals being more to the centre, and the NDP (New Democratic Party) a bit left of centre, but wayyy more left than your Democrats. Currently with what's going on in the world, Canada has elected a Conservative minority government. Not much different than the Liberal government IMO. The feminist movement is over. Finished. Done. We women are now equal members of society. We choose whether or not to marry, we choose whether or not to have children. We are no longer simply breeders under the control of men. Men and women now share all in relationships including raising the children and earning the money. That being said: Not all fathers are perfect. Not all men are cut out to be fathers. A child who does not know his father does not miss him, he/she may lack a male role model but does not actually miss the father who has never been there. On the same token not all mothers are perfect and not all women are cut out to be mothers. I laughed at the stat: 164% more likely to have premaritial birth. Guess that means 164 out of every 100 daughters are going to have kids before marriage? LOL Don't get me wrong -- I've known many men who are good dads or step dads. I am also of the thinking that men usually get the short end of the stick in divorce/custody arrangments.

That couldn't just be your perception, could it, considering you only pay any attention to the muslims who are in the news? Remember, there are over a billion muslims in the world. Not all of them have strapped bombs to their chests yet. Perhaps if you knew some muslims personally, as you probably do christians and jews, you would realize that some are rather moderate. I'm sure some are. But my perceptions are based not merely on news items about crazed terrorists, but polls and surveys and long historical and sociological items on the culture and values of Arabs/Muslims. Granted, I have not been to the middle east, but what I have read, including translations of Arab news items, school textbooks, speeches, etc. lead me to believe there is what we would consider a shockingly hateful attitude towards Jews - and to a lesser extent westerners based on their religion. Do you know what the number one field of study is throughout the Muslim world? Hint: It's not engineering, business or Liberal Arts. They study the Koran up until graduation then they move on to other subjects such as engineering. My friend in Iran (haven't heard from her in at least 6 months) has just graduated and she said "Now my real education begins!" as she is going to university and taking robotics. If you go to ICBC you've got a claim. If you just go to the body shop and pay for it yourself, no claim and ICBC doesn't care... This is NOT true. I was hit last month (actually the guy turned left in front of me) and I filed my claim after work. His fault 100%. The poor fellow who turned left in front of me has Alberta insurance. They are refusing to cover him because he moved here two weeks prior to the accident and didn't inform them yet... Some years ago, private insurance was cheaper, that's how they "hoodwinked" people into believing in private insurance! Sk insurance was the same price as ICBC and had no problems there when this woman creamed the side of my car. Did you get the names and phone numbers of the witnesses? I had a witness, ICBC called her and she backed up my version of events. Did the witnesses perhaps not back up your version? There is no "magical expiry date". If you get hit and don't know if you are injured go to your chiropractor (gp's never want to be involved in ICBC claims). Your chiro will tell you it takes a few weeks to know if you are injured or not and will treat you. You then submit your chiro reciepts to ICBC and they pay you back. Try being the poor sucker in Easetern Canada who had one accident (heck everyone makes mistakes) then 2 fender benders in a row during the winter. All private insurers refused to insure him for under $10,000 per year. Fair eh? I'll keep our public insurance thanks very much!
