  1. Sure… teach them that their sexual urges are sinful and should be ignored at the very least. That if they are good little godchildren they wouldn’t even have those terrible, nasty thoughts! Imagine the guilt you religious folks must feel… I pity you a little bit. Sex education needs to teach young folks about STDs and pregnancy; about oral sex, and anal sex and its possible medical implications (over and above STDs). Premarital sex has been around for all of our history. It is not a new concept. While some people may prefer to “save” themselves for their wedding… I think I’d like to “try on the shoes” before I make a commitment to purchase them! We don’t buy houses without checking to make sure the roof and the foundation are secure…why marry someone that you may or may not be sexually compatible with? Sex is the glue in a relationship. If the sex sucks the relationship is doomed. Isn’t it wiser to find out if you are sexually compatible before marriage? Personally, I’ve been in relationships where the heart beats fast, you can’t stop thinking about the other person, you are deliriously happy – until you have sex… then hohum bye bye quickened heart beat, bye bye wonderful delirium… How many couples in the past mistook lust for love and married only to find out they hated one another and the only reason they married was because they were so hot for one another?
  2. I agree with White Doors that 20 weeks or so should be the “cut off” unless the woman is in danger if she continues the pregnancy. Anyone should be able to make the decision to abort well before 20 weeks. If a woman is that unsure about whether or not she should abort, she obviously shouldn’t. Jerry, It’s clear that we will never (wouldn’t want to) be able to regulate what pregnant women ingest. Is margarine or butter better? Is a Big Mac dangerous? My cats won't even eat it. And it would be impossible to “make” the parents have enough money to save for all the children they weren’t “allowed” to abort! Ack!
  3. Jerry I absolutely agree. When an unexpected pregancy occurs it is the woman's choice to keep or abort. The man has no such choice. A man should be able to absolve himself from the situation completely if he so chooses. If the woman decides to keep the fetus she should be prepared to raise it alone (as the man is not interested in doing so in this example) financially and emotionally. I don't believe a man should have to pay for a one-night stand for twenty years! As it is the woman who gets pregnant, it is up to her to be prudent about her birth control. If a couple is in a relationship, that is a whole different ballgame. But for one-nighters -- girls... be wise make sure you are on birth control -- heck use more than one method if you are unsure! Boys... bag it bag it bag it!
  4. Being childless does not make one a "loser". And all women over 40 are not dried up old hags that have been used up. (Trust me on this sweetheart) Not all women want to be mothers. Not all men want to be fathers. In fact some men and women, who are parents, shouldn’t be. There is more to life than breeding for the sake of breeding Oleg. Sex for the sake of sex -- now that I can live with! edited to add: Hee Hee -- "meandering word salad" -- excellent!
  5. Not really.... all a liberal has to do is actually f&*k... and the regressives shout "Impeach the sinner" idiots
  6. Anti-choice folks need to get off of their high horses and look at the issue realistically. Face it, you folks do not care about children. You do not care if they live or die. The only issue is controlling what women do with their bodies. Once the child is born, you provide nothing. Once the child is born you don't care if it only ever eats macaroni, you don't care if it gets an education, you don't care if it has a warm home... you just don't care about anything other than holding power over others. IF, (big if) you did care about the actual child you would be FOR raising welfare rates so that no child ever has to live in poverty. You would open your doors to unwanted children -- foster them or adopt them no matter what issue they have. Who will be the first on MLW to stand up and take in FAS or drug addicted kids? Anyone? Helloooo? Where are you those of you who are so eager to see every pregancy result in a child? Put your money, you love and your support where your mouth is and give that, instead of giving us the tired old "Abortion should be illegal" crap.
  7. I wasn’t out to prove you wrong regarding Christians' giving to charity. I disagree with religious policies in government and the public sphere. You want your religion (in your opinion it is the “best” religion) to dictate the country’s laws – but I say NO religion should play a role in government because there are some people out there that believe THEIR religion is the “right” one (not yours) Being no one can ever agree on which religion is the “right” one, it should not have a role in our (or any) government. Do you see where I am coming from with this? Or are you so blinded by “faith” in your religion that you believe EVERYONE should follow it? If Christians were not allowed to “Minister” to those they help, would they still help them? I know very nice, kind Christians who have gone to Africa to help the starving children. They get food and the bible. How about being a humanist and just giving them the food and not expecting anything in return? Wouldn’t that be nice? Why should a person have to listen to a sermon in order to eat?
  8. You DO know that the idea of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a joke don't you? No one actually worships it. It was made up to show how ridiculous believing in an all-seeing, all-knowing, omnipotent man in the sky who watches your every move and knows your every thought but does nothing. The notion of "god" is made up, fake. An idea put forth by primitives to explain what they could not. If you can believe in ONE god why not believe in them all? Why is Vishnu any different than Yaweh?
  9. ACK! You can't be serious? Religion does not belong in politics! It belongs in your heart and your home (and your church if you must) but it NEVER belongs in the public sphere. If Christians are in government (and pushing their Christian agenda) then ALL religions should have the opportunity to push their agendas in goverment. It's all or nothing baby. No one religion is "better" than another. They are equally antiquated and NONE of them as they stand today give one shit about us as human beings. I vote that the Flying Spaghetti Monster get equal billing and you can bow to its noodly appendages and worship its meatsauce. THAT is how seriously ridiculous religion is!
  10. Shouldn't you rightwingers be falling all over yourselves over Iggy? After all he's practically (gasp!)American! Because we all know that Canadian rightwingers have orgasms over "American things". Jdobbin -- excellent!
  11. DREA'S SCORE Your scored -3 on Moral Order and 0.5 on Moral Rules. The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible): System: Socialism Ideology: Social Democratism Party: Democratic Party Presidents: Jimmy Carter 04' Election: John Kerry 08' Election: Barrack Obama Of the 511,380 respondents (7,392 on Facebook): 8% are close to you. 49% are more conservative. 8% are more liberal. 16% are more socialist. 18% are more authoritarian. LOL -- nothing new here.
  12. Is July 1st a "holiday" or a "vacation"? "I am taking my holidays in June" -- does not mean one is celebrating the Christmas season. "Holiday" means time off work/school. Stems from the word "holy". "Vacation" means going somewhere other than home. Stems from the word "vacate". I just can't call it "holidays" as many people are not away from work at all during the Christmas season. Merry Christmas!
  13. "Christmas Shoes" Guaranteed to tear your heart out My all time Christams favourite:
  14. Thanks Mr. Canada! I laugh because ... well you'll see ... when the Christmas spirit has dissipated -- the gloves are off rightwinger!! /kidding
  15. I love Christmas. It seems to bring out the friendliness in most people. And I like Christmas songs. That one about the red shoes for his mom 'cause she's going to meet Jesus... I bawl my eyes out or turn off the radio! Christmas is about the heart and giving of your heart. Seems that should be simple and "generic" enough for anybody. I'm not religious but I still say Merry Christmas. I feel stupid saying happy holidays. What "holidays"? Summer holidays? Commercial on TV the other night woman says "Did you get your holiday gift?" Huh? Like someone (sorry don't recall) said earlier -- it's not the politicians or the public (or immigrants) demanding that "Christmas" not be mentioned. It's the corporations, they don't want to take the chance of offending ONE person and losing his dollar. Merry Christmas!
  16. Thank you for your honesty. There's a new show on TV called "Life on Mars". It's about a guy (detective) that gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. ACK! The lack of technology! The lack of rights for women! The attitudes of the men towards themselves! -- it's amazing to see how far we've come. I was 9 in 1973 and I remember. The show is quite accurate. I suggest having a peek at it, Mr. Canada. To see how far we've come. Then look around you, at your wife today, at your daughters and your sons; and realize just how wonderfully far we've come.
  17. A public wedding is about two people declaring their love and commitment to one another to their families, community and the world. And a marriage is about sharing your life with another person. Why should any people be denied this public declaration? This celebrating of their joining to share life as one? I think (I don't know) that gay couples just want to declare their love publicly to one another in the accepted manner of our culture. To declare their love openly and publicly in a ceremony just like everyone else. And to be accepted as a couple who have vowed to commit to one another. Really what difference does the gender of one's spouse make?
  18. That's ridiculous. I've worked with Jehova's Witnesses who had no problem when we decked out the whole office. They enjoyed the good cheer just like everyone else. Surely you are not a scrooge charter.rights? Christmas has become a cultural tradition. More so than it's religious or pagan connotations. Yes, the winter soltice is the original reason for the celebration. And yes, Christians and non-Christians celebrate the birth of Christ at that very same time. Scholars have recently concluded that Jesus was born in June. It could be though, that babies born in ancient times were not recognized as "people" for the first six months (becasue infant mortality was so high). Six months from June is December after all. Not that I've converted or anything (for those astonished that I would even mention the birth of Jesus ). I do believe that ancient stories stem from some grain of truth.
  19. Christmas is my busiest season. I lurk but don't have much time for participating these days Most everything we do was once labelled "dangerously progressive" by someone. Providing the opportunity for two people who love one another to declare it publicly (ie; marriage) is a progressive idea that some think is dangerous. We have already progressed in this area... years ago interracial marriage was illegal. Many believed allowing two people of different races to marry would bring about the destruction of society. Two generations ago a woman earned less than 60% of what a man did. It was assumed that she had a husband supporting her and therefor did not need to a living wage. We have progressed in so many incredibly good ways. I cannot think of any progress in the past 30 or so years that has been a detriment to society.
  20. Please provide an example of some ideas that are being trumpeted as progressive when they are in fact against nature and a fallacy. What are these ideas that are dangerous and must be quashed as they will only lead to our own destruction as a human race? "Do unto others as you would have done to you." Is a good rule unless one is a masochist.
  21. FORBES: If GM Collapses, Don't Blame The Union I think $10 an hour ought to be enough for anyone. Sheesh! Just because I make 50 grand a year doesn't mean everyone should! After all I went to college! I sell stuff and only make money if I work really hard! Those buggers who do the same repetitive boring job do not deserve nearly what I do -- they are simply slave labourers! They should be happy just to have a job, let alone benefits. Sheesh! /sarcasm.
  22. Remove just one executive and cover all the benefits and wages of all the workers. That is the reality. My company -- no I am not telling you who -- got rid of NO ONE from the "bottom". They restructured the executives. We were all offered a buy out but not laid off. The execs, however were not so lucky. They got golden handshakes, but they had to take them. Us minions (those people who actually bring money in) had the option to stay working. As my father always said -- "when your broke never sell your tools" -- workers are tools in business and the Big 3 are selling their tools. Not smart in the scheme of things IMO.
  23. Of course the unions killed the auto industry! Those buggers make (holy crap batman!) sometimes upwards of $30 whole freakin dollars AN HOUR!!! OMG they are rolling in dough! usa today link Without a middle class that has disposable income there is no economy.
  24. Why would you want to? Truly, the most humbling thing a successful person facing difficult times has to do is go into that welfare office. I had to. Man it sucked. College educated, job experienced, yet when I got pregnant I had no other choice. What a humbling experience. I don't look down on those on welfare, I wonder what circumstances in their lives brought them to that level. Tis sad that we need a welfare system at all but alas not all people are successful all the time. I would rather "waste" a few tax dollars and know that if the shit hits the fan again in my life, there is a net (a thin one albeit) to catch me.
