  1. Unless Social Services gets involved there need not be any child support at all -- if the couple agrees. The only reason I had to go after my son's father for support was because I had to (for a brief period) go on welfare. They forced me to take him to court for child support. They judged that the amount per month should be $315 (based on his income). I had it lowered to $100 per month. The judge thought I was crazy, he said I was the first mother who had ever refused money... LOL IMO I made the decision to have the child and therefor am 100% responsible. The father really had no choice so why should he have to pay through the nose? FYI, His child support payments go into an RESP for the boy. Edited to add: I would rather he stay with his stepdad who loves him, as he does not have a relationship with his biological father, who couldn't care less.
  2. I voted no because it is not in their best interest to do so. If they nuke Isreal (even with a dirty bomb rather than a full on nuke) USA and Isreal certainly would wipe them off the map. It's all posturing. Except for what Figleaf says -- "leakage" to terrorist groups. In this day and age I doubt if any government (legitimate govt -- meaning NOT Hamas) would nuke another country. There is just too much at stake. A terrorist group on the other hand...
  3. Hubby (commonlaw) and I have an agreement that if anything happens to me he will be resposible for my son (not his). As this man is, for all intents and purposes, his father. I have it in my will. That being said -- if hubby and I split I would not go after child support. Child support is the responsibiltiy of the biological (or adoptive) parents.
  4. That's too funny. Is that all the cons have -- OMG he ate a hot dog with utensils!
  5. Innit tho! mostest espeshully sinse i got my own tee vee show seen by milliuns! LOL
  6. The Sumerian texts reveal that they got their information and copied it from much older texts. I'd like to know who (what ancient culture) they copied from! I think there was originally one story that was handed down through the generations and changed as time went along. I want to get under the paws of the Sphynx! Apparently there is a "cavity" there and no one knows what's in it -- perhaps some ancient texts -- some archeologists have pegged the Sphynx at 10,000 years old (during the age of Leo)
  7. Ah, the Sumerians certainly were not a "primitive" culture. Yes there are many versions of the flood story. All quite interesting. I love reading about ancient history. *truce Betsy -- you believe what you will and I will believe what I will -- no amount of arguing is going to change our minds. LOL Plus I really enjoy talking about the ancients. Sumerians had an advanced knowledge of astronomy and I find that facinating. At home tonight I'll link them for you. Cheers!
  8. EXACTLY! What is non offensive to you may be offensive to me and visa versa. So you gonna go to the middle east and parade yer daughters in their itsy bitsy bikinis? If not, why not? After all it is perfectly acceptable in our culture -- how dare any other culture say wearing a bikini in public is unacceptable! Of course you'd have to give up your dream of blonde grandchildren. LOL
  9. The Sumerians lived in Mesopotamia... LOL Ancient Sumerians A site about religious tolerance... Earth History (ancient) Secrets of Sumer Its not irrelevant. Those men who wrote your bible simply copied (bastardized actually) older texts in their primitive effort to explain life... LOL Another one for yah...
  10. The creation story came from ancient Sumerian texts written by ancient Sumerians. Nevertheless -- you are praying to Allah -- just calling it a different name LOL Do you get a horde of virgins too when you die? Oh riiiight, women don't go to "heaven" do they -- they are not "worthy" LOL
  11. You really have a short memory. I pointed out your hypocrisy a few weeks ago, when you made opposing views on two different threads. Edit: It's coming back to me now, you spoke against religious practices on one thread and defended them on another. After I pointed this out, you claimed it was cultural, not religious. I then pointed out that the country in question had an 85% (give or take I can't remember exactly now) of Muslims, therefore it WAS religious. You never got back to me after that hypocritical outing. as a matter of fact I did -- remember I said FFS.. then someone asked what does FFS mean? Remember -- no I am not going to go searching through old threads -- you go ahead though. I think you should send your sister or daugher to walk around the middle east in her bikini -- yah think that'd be appropriate. Oh yah and I remember mentioning something about me and my hubby coming over to have wild sex on your couch -- remember? It's appropriate for us to do so in OUR house so why not at YOUR house? Duh. Frig.
  12. I bash all religion equally Betsy Did you know that Allah is the same god that you pray to? That the "creation story" in Iran is the very same story told to you at your mamma's knee. Those Indo Canadians (women and men) -- good for them for standing up for their rights as human beings. No woman deserves to be killed for "honour" or for "disgracing" her family... Good for those who would fight the religious fanatics -- whatever label they give themselves. Good thing someone in the past stood up for OUR rights as Canadian women eh Betsy.
  13. I do believe what Cyber means is that religion is full of hypocrites. How many followers actually follow the laws as written (written by god no less!)? pfft. Call me what you want -- but you will never be able to call me a hypocrite.
  14. I cannot say for certain that is so BUT it is just as plausible (moreso in fact) than an invisible entity watching and judging... I have read the bible (King James Version) and have read some ancient Sumerian texts (translated of course). There are certain parallels yes. Does that mean I KNOW FOR SURE that aliens were here? Of course not. But I am wise enough to analyze the information and discuss the possibility, not simply swallow it because somebody told me I would go to hell if I didn't.
  15. See! Stalking people on threads. If you want to discuss this go back to the original thread instead of randomly picking threads to discuss the same topic (the "Betsy thinks women are worthless" topic LOL)
  16. I am an extreme non believer... ? LOL I extremely believe that we have no daddy in the sky -- sorry kids you are on your own. No one is going to save you from yourselves so live your life happily -- it's all we got. Cheers!
  17. You are stalking folks in threads now Betsy and its really getting old... as this thread is about religion, lets stick to that shall we? And you've just explained how stupid religion is (and unknowingly how woman ARE oppressed LOL) -- women being stoned etc. Shameful, pathetic human beings would do this to one another in the name of an invisible entity that may or may not exist. Simply pathetic IMO.
  18. Betsy, Where is your example? No I am not a university student -- been in the business world for more than 25 years... LOL The stereotyping of women are done by those people who believe that women are not smart enough, or that they are too emotional or too whatever to be "equal" to men. Come on now Betsy, do you seriously believe that you are worth less than a male? Seems as though you do. Sad really. I've got a great book my hubby gave me for mother's day -- Life Lessons for Women (it'll help with your self esteem) by the folks who wrote the "Chicken Soup" series of books. Cheers Betsy -- Drea
  19. Ok after all the fuss -- I take it back. I would DUCT tape the mouths of the fanatics and tie their hands... better? Of course as a person sitting on a computer somewhere I have no way of actually doing anything to any fanatic, no matter their fantasy...
  20. Yah they are. Take Turkey for example... Also I have a young friend in Iran. She's attending university in Tehran with the goal of becoming an electronics engineer. She has the internet (obviously as this is how we communicate). 75% of the population of Iran (70 million) is under 30 years old. They want what we have -- freedom from religion -- or at least they DID want it before a**hole Bush started threatening them -- now their Imams say "see you young people the west IS bad!"
  21. You are saying we are free BECAUSE of christianity. I am saying we are free IN SPITE of christianity. Obviously islam is a stronger religion than christianity as they have been able to hold off the hordes of secularists for so much longer... Not that they are any better than any other religion -- just better at controlling folks. And islolation -- they've isolated their populace for so long they could tell them anything. But thankfully that is changing and even they are waking up to reality.
  22. As an a-theist I have every right in the world to question "theists" as long as their "theism" affects me (theism in govt, schools, etc). Now if you keep your theism to yourself (in your heart and mind) I have no problem with it. And gee, I wonder why the founding father's made that decision? Yah think it might have something to do with *oppression and the fleeing from it? *oppression by god or king -- same thing, different "Lord". LOL
  23. No, Western culture as influenced by SECULARISTS... If there were no nonbelievers Christians would still be stoning people, burning them for heresay, etc. Even bad old islamists are waking up -- take a look at Turkey -- rallying for the separation of church and state! they certainly are not rallying to become christians -- they want a seperation of church and state much like we have here. Christianity is not better than islam -- its just that christianity has us sane folks to nip it's idiocy in the bud. Theism belongs ONLY in the heart/mind of the believer, not in law or parliament, school or work.
  24. Excellent BD! From Wikipeda: Zealotry was a movement in first century Judaism, described by Josephus as one of the "four sects" at this time. The term Zealot, in Hebrew kanai (קנאי, frequently used in plural form, קנאים), means one who is jealous on behalf of God. The term is Greek in origin. That's me jealous for mr. invisible entity dude -- yesiree!
  25. Where's your example!!!???
