Jerry Falwell. Dead and gone.
Drea replied to Higgly's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well, Global ain't the CBC I watched the man say it himself -- unless of course the vast leftwing conspiracy theorists made someone up to LOOK like him... yah think? By "we" I mean the populace of the west including dupeable Canadians and Americans. The guy has followers all over the world. He spouts his crap daily for decades -- we have only been hearing about this so called war on terror since GW was annointed (opps I mean appointed... oops I mean elected) 100 Huntly Steet comes on in the morning after Global News -- I'm not home but I change the channel anyway so my budgie doesn't have to listen to that garbage. LOL Unless you're a religious fanatic you shouldn't be too worried your tongue and hands are safe. S'matter anyway -- wouldn't you like to see the leader of Iran shut up? Would this not be a good thing? LOL FYI -- the religious fanatic in Iran spouts hatred to those who do not comply with his religious doctrine. -- the religious fanatic in America spouts hatred to those who do not comply with his religious doctrine. Same fanatic -- different clothing. -
Jerry Falwell. Dead and gone.
Drea replied to Higgly's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Global last night -- the report stated that INDEED Falwell is the one person responsible for uniting the republicans with the religious rightwing. Today there are many republicans who feel they have been "highjacked" by the religious right. Falwell said (during Regans campaign) "We now have more than 200 people running for office and we won't stop until he have all of them" Conspiracy? Yes Theory? No Ah yes -- we must love those muslims 'cause we didn't cheer over their deaths. Thing is -- they do not influence our society on a day to day basis and are therefor not really on our radar. Falwell is because he is (was) "in our faces" on a daily basis. Just because a person does not like a nutbar like Falwell does not mean they automatically support OTHER religious fanatics. ALL religious zealots should have their tongues cut out and their hands mutilated so they cannot communicate their filth. -
What EXACTLY does this man do differently throughout the day than a "real" man. Really. Start when he wakes up and take us through a typical day of a "liberal" man and then take us through a typical day for a "non liberal" man. what you've said is simply ranting -- lets get the truth out there Betsy!

LOL The "virgin birth" must be PROOF that we evolved from these creatures! PROOF that we are reptilians! I wonder though, why there has not been more instances of this "spontaneous" pregancy occuring. LOL Heres the link: Parthenogenesis
-
The only way there could have been a "virgin" birth is if the ancients practiced artificial insemination. OR the fact that the word "virgin" did not mean the same thing as it does today. It used to mean "young woman", not young woman who had never been penetrated.

Betsy, Women are still moms and wives. Men are still fathers and husbands. The only thing that's changed is the fact that women (most of us westen women) now have an equal say in life. This is a very good thing -- as we make up 50% of the population -- our thoughts and opinions need to be heard and heeded. What does an emasculated man act like? What does he do differently than a "non-emasculated" man would do? Please clarify.

This post has been reported. No need to repeat it -- you know which one I mean, if not look up the date. I WANT to insult you, but I won't. I shouldn't need to should I?

You're projecting. The thing is, your concept of God.............. You are correct -- as I do not have my own concept of "god" (as a non believer) -- I am going on other's concept of it. Of course I cannot say "neener, neener my god is better'n your god" as I do not have one. I cannot say you are going to hell in a handbasket as I do not believe in the concept of hell. As an atheist, I shall bow out and let the religious have at it. Cheers!
-
The thing is the concept of "god" is all about power and control. I would much prefer that people thought of mother nature as the "creator" rather than some invisible entity in the sky. Kinda hard to say "Mother Nature will send you to... to .... to ...somewhere if you are "bad". LOL Watched a program on N. Korea the other night - the people treat Kim LIKE a god. They have been brainwashed into thinking that without him they would all die (never mind they are starving to death now) a miserable death. Sounds suspicously like the propaganda and brainwashing done in the name of god.

Yes I would say you did. You displayed your historical ignorance. My original point stands: If the human race was at it's most brutal to one another in the century which marked a loosening of theistic belief, it makes it rather difficult to argue that god is poison. It is much easier to argue that humanity is the poison and more specifically intolerance of others with different beliefs. And yet here you are mocking people for their beliefs.. By the way -- I did not write the article. I simply posted it. Theist beliefs will always be intolerable -- its the nature of "religion" to be intolerant. Yes, years ago it was much much better to burn so-called heretics in the name of "god" than to tolerate them. Yes, today it is so wonderful that practically an entire "religion" is willing to kill themselves in the name of a "god". I stand by my original point -- the concept of god is poison to the human race as it will always pit one group against another -- unless of course one group is able to kill off or convert everyone. Regardless of the statistical number of deaths from century to century the point remains -- There is no way to prove the existence of the invisible father figure and therefor there will never be agreement among "religions".
-
Got off on a bit of a tangent there when someone stated that we are worse off today (because of secularism) than in the past (because of the belief in god) But really, humans kill one another for many reasons -- religion being only one of them.

Rue, I seriously thought that by the time I reached middle age the stigma would be gone as we have all (most of us) tried it and discovered that we didn't turn into werewolves or anything LOL I never smoke it at work, just like I never would drink at work. Just makes sense. As GostHacked pointed out -- there is a time and a place...
-
It helps me to eat. I am naturally too thin (and hyper to boot) so smoking pot helps me to chill out and makes food attractive to me so that I eat. I just started this new "blueberry powder" from the health food store that I mix with fruit juice so I am getting nutrients. Without weed I'd probably hardly eat at all.
-
Probably the only way someone could hurt themselves or someone else while on pot is if they drove and got in a car accident. I certainly do not condone driving after smoking as it's just as dangerous as driving while under the influence of alcohol, or when you are too tired. People "self medicate" all the time. Instead of taking a doctor prescribed valium at the end of the day, some folks drink a glass of wine... some folks smoke a little weed... some folks do yoga. There is still such a social stigma attached -- drives me nuts. No one thinks anything odd of my coworker who goes home and polishes off a bottle of red wine every night, but I am loath to mention that I smoke pot (because of the social stigma) -- even though she gets pissed drunk and I only get slightly mellow.

You've provided no links... and you only looked at one century. How many died during the Spanish Iinquisition? How many died while invading North America? How many died when India was colonized? South Africa? How many died when Khan and his hordes were on the march? How many died when Alexander the great was having his fun? How many died during the American civil war? How many died in the time of Joseph Ben Yaweh? People will kill one another for many reasons (power, economics,) and will continue to do so even when we finally find out that there is no god.
-
Your reading comprehension skills are lacking... I said that the last century was the MOST peaceful and harmonious in human history. Meaning (because you need explanations) that there was LESS cruely and bloodshed (less does not mean "none" -- less means "not as much") than any other time in history. I am busy today so will not have time for research. And if you've never read a history book, 'tis not my problem, research it for yourself. Try typing "human brutality throughout history" into your search engine. Let me know when you find proof that we live in the worst time in human history... Oh, so your god is an emotion. Of course this is exactly correct. God does not exist anywhere except in the mind of the believer. Just as love and hatred do not exist except for in the minds of the people feeling the emotion. I cannot talk to your love or hatred. I cannot feel it or touch it. It only exists to you (like dreams) Emotions are not tangible items. To the theist, god is more than an emotional feeling -- the theist believes there is an actual being... And with regard to "believing" in aliens. We do not have the proof yet but science is still working on it. You never know, maybe they will find your god out there at the outer fringes of the galaxy.

Now RB What is your definition of a real man? How 'bout if you tell us "A Day in the Life of a Real Man" and "A Day in the Life of a Sorta-Man" -- just so we can compare them and be clear
-
This thread (all all the posts within it) are not "targetting" christianity but the concept of an invisible entity -- doesn't matter what you call it (god, allah, buddah, jesus, vishnu). There is no religion "better" than another.
-
F.F.S. we have been in THIS century for a whole seven years -- whatever. Of COURSE I meant from 1900 to 1999 -- which were certainly NOT the bloodiest/cruelest years in human history. Go on believing the invisible Daddy will save you from your "sins". LOL You insult my debating style and everything EXCEPT for the fact that you CANNOT define the difference between a person praying to "G-d" and a person praying to "Ra". Geez -- insult the messenger because you can't refute the message. Cheers!
-
This is NOT the bloodiest time in human history. I am at work now, but over the weekend I will do some searching and prove it. And yes, I agree that humans are repsonsible for bastardizing religions and the concept of "god". Regardless, it still stands that the human race will be better off when people no longer believe in an invisbile entity that hands out judgement. I am still confident that the human race (sans whitedoors) will grow up and shed the need for "gods". And white... you have yet to tell me if people ought to still believe in a sun god, ought to be still sacrificing people to make sure the sun rises... or if these antiquated beliefs belong in the past. Praying to "Ra" so the sun god rises is the same as praying to "Allah" or "G-d" or "Jehova" or "Jesus" -- equally useless, equally antiquated.
-
Religious folk have a hard time wrapping their brains around the fact that those who do not believe in the existence of a god don't have "faith" in anything. People USED to believe they needed to do "something" in order to make the sun rise. So Whitedoors, going by your logic, they were CORRECT to beleieve that without their "prayers" or "sacrifices" the sun would not rise. If this is the case, why are folks today not sacrificing to a sun god? Because we KNOW the reasons that the sun rises and sets. (It's the rotation of the planet and it's orbit around the sun which was discovered through logical science, not blind faith) Today there is no need to speculate on a "sun god". We KNOW it was stupid to sacrifice human beings (or do you think they were doing the right thing? Cause, well yah just never know maybe the sun god is real and wants human blood -- yah think?) The 20th century was NOT the bloodiest time on earth. On the contrary, it is the most peaceful human beings have ever been. I do not BELIEVE in anything. I KNOW that the earth is not flat -- I KNOW that the earth revolves around the sun -- I KNOW these things because they are scientifically proveable. Your notion of "god" is not.
-
You nailed it cybercoma. We are at a point where we are finding out more and more about the world (and universe) around us. Those same folks that say "everything is too complex, there must be a creator" are the same folks who could not understand how a leaf "came back from the dead" every spring, so they attributed it to a power beyond their understanding (a god). In millenia to come we will look upon these last few thousand years and marvel at how naive we were. Just like today when we look at those religions who offered sacrifices so that the gods would make the sun rise the next day. Today we know that the sun will rise, sacrifice or not.

This is funny! Yessiree -- my teenage niece was just ITCHIN' to have a baby (so was her boyfriend) so they had sex. And a baby. Sheessh. They are not opening their eyes to the possibility of fertility -- it's the opportunity to get laid and have an orgasm. Heck even old people and infertile people have sex -- imagine that, those abnormal folks. I laugh! This quote sounds like an old lady I knew in the 70's "Well if she didn't want a baby she should not have had sex!" Obviously people like this have lousy sex lives.

Well, first I can point to the obvious, like you don't have to be a mathematician to add 1+1=3. Well, I can also say that I am also of the belief that it is much more important to set a good moral example than going out of my way to try for smokes, weed, booze. You also get these items at special places and hideouts. Sounds very dangerous and compromising to me already. I buy my smokes at London Drugs. I never thought of a drug store as a "hideout" LOL. You will follow the law because it is "on the books", so it is safe to assume then, that when this antiquated law is struck down you will no longer have a problem with it? If you've never had the opportunity to "even see the stuff" how can you say that someone who smokes weed acts like someone who is drunk. You are wrong. The effect of alcohol is entirely different than the effect of marijuana. The law is not in place because marijuana is "bad for you". The law is in place because the hemp crop was a threat to the US cotton crop back in the early part of last century.Butter is also bad for you -- shall we ban it? Either it a.) does nothing for the economy or b.)has long been established and is part of the economy Maybe some mind altering substance is in order? You oughta try it for the clarity alone LOL
-
Maybe you should set them down and give them a good wash. LOL Good one! The onus is on the worshipper to prove the existence of an invisiblity entity (good luck with that). In today's world we no longer NEED religion (or gods) to explain that the sun comes up every day...that clouds produce rain. People used to believe that the sun would not rise if they didn't prostrate themselves in a certain way, or sacrifice a person, or burn incense... We now know better -- I am CONFIDENT that the human race is capable of growing up and realizing no one is going to "make everything better." Cheers!
