  1. The legalization of marijuana will not make it any easier for teens to access. Everyone (those in the "against" camp) always brings up "what about the children!". This is not about kids, it's about adults purchasing a plant without the stigma of a criminal record if caught.
  2. Now, I don't have any stats handy, but I do believe that guns used by criminals are NOT stolen from honest gun owners. They are being smuggled across the border. I have a good idea... why not put a 5000 km "zapper"? It would be like those invisible fences that keep dogs in.... if someone were to try to walk over it with something metal they would get zapped into next week. Yup, even that Rolex would get you zapped. Even the metal holes that you put your shoelaces through. Even the damn fillings in your teeth. Oh hell, the arms manufacturers would just start making guns out of plastic anyway. Seriously though...If a Canadian is caught with a gun he/she should recieve an automotic five years in prison. No matter what "reason" they give too bad. There is simply no reason whatsoever to have a gun on your person or in your vehicle. Guns used for "play" (target practice) should be kept at security laden gun clubs.
  3. my question remains unanswered.... if an action does not cause harm, what makes it immoral? I will just keep asking until I see an answer.
  4. Hence the fact that there is no site yet... We are looking into the legal implications of it. There should also be a database of bad landlords so that tenants can make informed decisions on whether or not they want to rent from. As a tenant for years before we bought, I realize there are bad landlords out there too. We've made the decision... we will lease to the next tenant. We have just went through years of extensive renovations and want to protect our property... if a tenant were to ruin our handmade douglas fir and glass eating bar, I woud have to kill them! (kidding!)
  5. Nothing wrong with floating your boat so long as your boat is not harming any other boats! Conjecture.... there is no evidence that children raised in "gay" households, homes with more than one mom and dad... are harmed in any way. Children are no longer "children" once they become adults. It is immoral to have sexual relations with child (a non adult) because it harms them. Holy smokes! Pining for a theocracy are you? I have a fourteen year old son. I do believe "commie pinko" is a bannable offense here on MLW.... ps, there is no such thing as "commies" anymore -- your "new" enemy is Islam remember? and my question remains unanswered.... if an action does not cause harm, what makes it immoral?
  6. No "morals pushers" have answered these questions... I will continue to repeat them until I get an answer.... If no one is harmed, is an action considered immoral? If no harm occurs during an action is it still immoral? And if so, what makes it immoral? Got any answers there folks?
  7. Nah... just pointing out that even staying up really late can be mind altering (and fun!) Then you probably don't drink either -- as you are old enough to know better. If I could find some from a safe source -- absolutely! Count me in, I want to try it again! Yet alcohol remains legal and available to our children. Sad that it ruins so very many lives. Oh I never thought that! Naive maybe, stupid never. How do you feel about people drinking? Is alcohol "safe" stuff? But it is very very easy to overdose on alcohol. One cannot overdose on marijuana.
  8. It's fun. If you don't think so that is your issue, not someone else's. *shrug* And when my bro and I were just kids we would try to stay up as many hours as possible (we made it for 60 hours one time!) -- causes the giggles too! (recommended for kids 8 to 14) I'm not advocating for "illicit" drugs to be legal and available. I am only intereted in the legalization of marijuana. I was describing my experience; I was not advocating that "kids" go out and do acid. I was 30 when I did that half hit of acid. The first time I ever saw mushrooms I was 23. Old enough in my opinion. And yes, I would do it again given the right circumstances. Perhaps your friend's brother was an idiot. Either that or he had already been drinking and thought himself invincible. Weed is not in the same category as "other" mind altering substances. Humans have been altering their minds in one way or another from the get go. Why? Because it is enjoyable when done in moderation. How do you feel about people drinking? Is alcohol "safe" stuff? Edited to add: That made me laugh so hard!
  9. Good weed does not make one want to fly or think they can fly. Good weed makes one nice and mellow -- takes ones cares away. I would instantly know if my weed had cocaine added. .... is this not another reason to legalize it? To keep it safe from those who would add that crap? No one adds weird stuff to a bottle of vodka in the liquor store... IMO pot should be safely available in liquor stores. Yes, Margaret Trudeau blames her mental health issues on pot. I've been smoking it for 30 years on and off and have never had a problem. Some people may be prone to mental health issues and as stated earlier, are more than likely "self medicating".
  10. Landlords need some way to protect themselves from bad tenants. If that means banding together on the internet, so be it. I've known people that make such a disaster of places that they simply move on when the house gets too messy. Dirty diapers everywhere, holes in walls, dog feces on the carpet...ewwwwww! Welfare picks up the tab for the new damage deposit and away they go to wreck someone else's place.
  11. For teens trying drugs isn't about "self medicating" or "an escape". It's about FUN! It's pure fun to get all f**ked up! That's why I like shrooms (been years and years and years since I had any) because one gets utterly messed up (make sure you are somewhere safe!). I did acid once. Half a hit. It was sooo fun. My g/friend and I were safely in my apt. We stayed up all night laughing our faces off at simple things... like the word "the"... would send us into a fit of giggles. I would do it again in a heartbeat, just that I'm so old now I have no idea where to get "safe" stuff from.
  12. Kengs (or the new guy Don Cherry), being you're the ones espousing "morals" please answer... If no one is harmed, is an action considered immoral? If no harm occurs during an action is it still immoral? And if so, what makes it immoral?
  13. Truer words have never been spoken Hear hear! When a person is young pot gives them the gigglies and they may do silly things. I recall sitting in the lazyboy with my best friend after we had stolen and smoked my brothers "tie stick" (amazing stuff for the 70's!!!). We sat there squished together and laughed our faces off. I remember the day I smoked a doob with my mom for the first time... she laughed so much... after that she bought her own and smoked it whenever she felt down or didn't feel like eating (she had cancer -- she died ten years ago, but at least she got some relief throughout it all)
  14. Men can have children now?? Wow, I was only away from the TV and computer for one day and look what happens! Kengs, no one is advocating fathers and sons marry. Or fathers and daughters. Or mothers and daughters or sons...or me and my cat (who I love dearly) And if no one is harmed, why is an action considered immoral? Is something considered immoral if it harms a person? For example; hitting your neighbour with a baseball bat for no reason, would be considered immoral in my opinion, because it causes harm. This is the same reason that I consider pedophilia to be immoral -- it harms a child. Boinking a goat would also be immoral as it is harmful to the goat (poor goat!) But if no harm occurs during an action is it still immoral? And if so, what makes it immoral? I am not judging you or your beliefs just wanting to know what makes something immoral.
  15. Hubby and I were discussing starting a website for landlords in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. It would include information on bad tenants -- those who leave the place a dump, don't pay or party all the time. At least then a landlord would have some semblance of control over who he/she rents to and what their real rental history is. We've had our tenant for almost 9 years but we are going to be renovating her place so we can move into it. We will then have to rent out this place* and we are so not looking forward to it. We are even thinking of going to a lease instead. At least then it's covered under contractual law rather than tenancy law. Tenancy law looks after only the tenant. Like the first poster said, a tenant can easily cost a landlord a ton of money. We also buy Christmas gifts for our tenant and have not ever raised her rent. We are the nicest landlords ever -- she is also a very good, quiet tenant. I feel for her though --she is in for a huge shock when she goes to find another place. *we won't be offering her "our" side of the duplex as it is only a two bedroom and she has three kids now (when she moved in she was a 17 year old with a newborn).
  16. Does so. No matter that you personally think you are "better" at eye to hand coordination (you are probably young and young people have good eye-hand dexterity 'cause of all the time playing vid games!) -- I certainly am worse at everything that requires concentration when I am high. I smoke to relax, if I want to win a marathon I ain't gonna smoke. Cheers!
  17. Who is "harmed" during the course of a homosexual relationship between two consenting adults? Isn't "harm of another" the basis of morality? If an activity is not harming anyone, what makes it immoral?
  18. Two matronly women chastise a child for his behaviour and you folks run around screeching "Feminist Dykes!" "Our children are going to *insert your fear here*!" Get a grip. If the women had of been thin, young while chastising the brats (precocious cute little children), would this thread even exist? No, it would go like this "I saw these two young girls learning how to be moms today -- they were setting a good example by telling one boy he wasn't allowed to touch another" That's how it would've went if the women were of "f**kable" age, weight and looks.
  19. 300 sq ft house? Why that's huge compared to my igloo! Of course, living in this extreme level of poverty has been very difficult. I missed out on cafe latte's yesterday at work (where they pay me in health care vouchers-- really! That's all I get -- my healthcare paid for. For everything else we use the barter system. We trade back bacon for maple syrup.) My igloo is top of the line though. It's made with real snow trucked in from up north. (the truck runs on chicken poop and bacon fat as Canada has no other means of energy. Most of the time though, we just huddle around the bacon-fat fire and hope for the best.
  20. It is utterly amazing the amount of poverty I see on a daily basis. Canadians driving two, even three, four and FIVE year old vehicles! OMG I've never seen such despair! Canadians living in houses and condos! The horror! It boggles the mind! You won't even believe this one... there is (GET THIS) a trailer park (that's right folks a mobile home park with 15 trailers in it) right down the road from me! I cannot imagine the hell of living that way. Gosh I feel for those people, stuck in mobile homes! I feel even worse for the ones that drive SUVs into the city every single day. Must be hell on them. And you should SEE the grocery store -- my god, they have produce from around the world! How horrible is that? I wonder how any of us survive at all in this poverty sticken hellhole that is Canada. LOL
  21. two words... frost heaves. Very few frost heaves in most of USA, lots of frost heaves in most of Canada -- hence the bad roads. Frost heaves are caused when the ground freezes and then thaws and then refreezes. And yes, AW most of Canada is still undeveloped wilderness.
  22. So a man such as this attains "forgiveness" (and therefore entry into heaven) by asking for forgiveness and "giving himself over to Jesus/God". Yet a person who has lived a good, honest life (without the belief in Jesus/God) does not get into heaven? So, anyone anywhere can do whatever they please throughout their lives (even killing people and eating them) -- all they have to do is ask for forgiveness and hand their pitiful lives over to a "God" and they are "forgiven". Frig, I have never heard anything so pathetic in my life. Dahlmer goes to heaven! Whoo hoo -- religion!
  23. hope you don't eat food from the Fraser Valley... they spray pure manure right onto the fields... drive past Chilliwack anytime besides harvest time and you will smell it! Pure unprocessed poop. Yummmmmmmmmy.
  24. The operative word here is "were". Christians "were" burning witches at the stake but they no longer do so -- thanks to non-believers, humanists and science for injecting logic and saving people from religious nuts. But no need to discuss that as it happened way in the past, in the dark ages. So why continually bring it up regrading natives? It's not as though they are still doing it.
