This is a bit odd of a topic considering its been a month since this idea was presented but it has been in hibernation sinse. But I will answer your question anyway. Yes, I think their should be mandatory voting. Every generation their is a loss in the number of people voting and watching the news earlier this morning it said a wopping 38% of young adults vote. That is horrbile that is below 50%. I just truned legal voting age and I definatly plan to vote in this up coming election it will be exciting as it is my first vote. But here's my view why are we a democracy if nobody cares? I think a day under a dictatorship would motivate people to vote wouldn't you agree?

Tell me: who are the enemies our military is suppossed to be deterring? wow you are really blind, you think everybody loves Canada? Lets see enemies we have well I can name North Korea as a fact, Other small countries, as well as the fact that the Islamic Supremisists AKA Terrorists have decalred war on the West and have named Canada along with The USA, Australia, Spain, U.K as their enemies and have attacked them all EXCEPT for Italy and Canada open your eyes black dog and look whats ging on around you. Not neccesarily. What's more, our allies are all more than capable of handling themselves. What if the time ever arrised that our allies needed help ever thought of that? It can happan Canada's contributions to peacekeeping have been slipping over the years. We're now ranked 38th among peacekeeping nations. The significance of Canada's peackeeping role is inverseley proportionate to the importance many Candians place on it. Well this may be just my oppinion but I think it's time Canada gives up being the world peace keeping police and start consentrating on whats more important, our country and its well being. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Agree with you 100% but A lot of rumers have been spread about him, so that people are afraid of him. That is the reason he has lost seats in Ontario and therfore can't even hope for a minority. I really want this guy to win this election but in order to do this he has to stop consentrating on the Canadian West and win seats in Onatario.

Missile Defence (which Canada is deeply involved with, despite the "official" position to the contrary) is a perfect example of the type of militarily useless and financially wasteful project that has led Canada's armed force sto such a sorry state. The only poissible winners are the aerospace companies and other military contracters whose bottom lines are subsidized by such a white elephant. It's the 21st Centiry equivalent of the Ross rifle. You think their ae no terrorists out their who would like noting more to see north america dissapear of the face of the earth? Not including CSIS reports on major terror cells in Canada. My point being is we do have enimies we are not as safe as we think we are, thast Canada's problem we think we are to safe and we spend less money on national security. I think in this ever changing world we need to make Military funding one of our top priorities, I am not saying we go and blow out education and health care over it but spend some money on it so we can at least defend Canada and not have to rely so much on the United States. Why would the USA want to defend us if they no if they needed are help we could not help than in a case that they needed are help?

I am looking forward to finding out the election out come in January. Right now I am hopeing for a Conservative Minority at least maybe a small chance at a majority. I agree with Harper's stand up for Canada speech. I believe Steve is a man of his word he says somthing he's going to do it no if, and's or dithering. I think he would be an honest leader not just fix up his attitude towards the country and start bribeing Canadians near election date with new funds for departments like the Liberal's are doing. I think a Conservative government will do good to this country, it might not happan until Steve is kicked out by his MP's because of their lack of faith but if a new guy comes along and picks up Harper's roll and still has the same politicol views as harper he/she will be just as good. Not trying to sway off topic or anything but quickly could someone take a shot at who would be a few candidates who might run for Conservative leadership if Harper ever get's kicked out?

Agreed. However, no one should now be saying Canada's army is in good position because it isn't. The conservatives can make it in to office they have enough seats in the praries's but all they need to do is smarten up in Ontario, impress Ontarians and they have themselves a government, hopefully majority. Don't get me wrong I want to see a Conservative government in power, but they are going ot have to work 10x's as hard to impress people in Ontario enough to vote for them.

Just recently their has been a report of 2 Canadian hostages in iraq. All though it's not Canada's fault of these hostages being taken, consideirng we warned humanatarian aid workers to avoid Iraq, I think somthing has to be done, they are fellow Canadians after all. I know our government adn CSIS is doing everything they can to bring these two home I suggest we keep it quiet and not start a war about this sending soldiers in Iraq unless we need to. What do you propose we do to rescue these hostages?

ONE of those 7 incidents was probably a human error. But come on do you possibly believe 7 highly trained military officials were NOT signifacantly trained or was at fault for this? Or would most of these have to do with vehicle safety?

I have faith in the P.C. I think Klein should be fired Who says that about their boss on National News. That was pretty stupid of Klein. But besides that, I think the Conservatives can at least win a minority. But today I read about the death of a private in the Canadian military as well as 4 other soldiers being injured when their land vehicle LAVIII rolled over on them. This is anothing reason why I think are military should be fixed. Instead of buying those Hercules aircraft when I read in an article that some Canadian soldiers said the ones they had were fine. I think we should have started with are vehicles and weaponry thats's in worst shape and move on from their instead of replacing whats "oldest" Agree?
