Six Nations occupation at Caledonia
politika replied to Renegade's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
TS The indians should have the same rights as the rest of us, same as the whites, blacks, Chineese, you name it and are entitled to Canad'as social programs. But on one condition, You are living in a main stream Canadian soceity like the rest of us, have a job and pay taxes. Also get rid of the treaties as well. Once thats done you have all the rights you want like the rest of us. By the way my hat is off to you TS if you are a hard working citizen, who pays his taxes and doesn't rely on the government for help. All my above comments on, booze drinking, grumbling and money guzling natives do not apply to you. -
Your taxes? Actually politika, off-reserve Natives do pay taxes like you or I. They are still exempt from the 14% sales tax GST PST (Manitoba) though. Sorry that was my fault, I didnt make it clear.
-
I'm sorry you feel that way Geoff. However, we've played by Canadian rules, and all I see my taxes going to is to keep a line of Clifford Olsen's, Robert Pickton's and Paul Bernardoes having a good laugh at the rest of us while in jail. Your taxes?

I'm hardly un-educated, but as for age wise I am a grade 12 student going to university next year, I don't pay taxes except for my job as I still live with my parants until I go away, so yes I do pay some tax, I don't even need to ask if you pay taxes . Why are you under mining my inteligence that is on a debate about indians and whites and fair treatment? This thread itself is hardly inteligent itself except for the fact their is truth in here that the indian lives richer than the white man. Now if you really want me to prove to you my inteligence start a thread about, General Wolfe and the plains of Abraham, or Sir Issac Brock and his victorious but sad death at Queenston Heights, or somthing that better fits the topic of this forum, the Conservatives vs the NDP Ideologies. -

I don't understand why you think you're a second class citizen. If you're white, chances are you're doing far better than the average Indian - healthier, richer and more secure. Why are you the second class citizen ? Is it because you're bothered by, or you feel guilty about images you see on TV ? Indians are doing very badly in this country, and most people feel bad about that even if they don't feel guilty. Governments from both sides are unable to solve these embedded problems, and because of politics they don't wash their hands of it either. So we limp along with half solutions that don't work. But this second-class citizen business seems to me to have something to do with your identity as a Canadian. In Toronto, an Indian is more often treated like a second class citizen than a white person. THey are living richer than any of the white people, No Tax with their treaty card, indian card whatever the hell you call it, while the whit epeople get the crap taxed out of them and the indians collect a big check every month, like geofry says. They want us to think they are poor by buying crap and complaining but really the crap they buy is cheap and makes them richer than any of us. Im glad Harpers cuting the funding to reserves. -
Agree?

Can somone help me with a question. If the COnservatives plan to spend over 5 billion dollars on defense, is that all th emoney that is going towards it? Or is their other defense money's floating around our their somwhere at the Government's disposal? What is your guys take on the defense spending is it really Conservative?
-
I think this is a major breakthrough in the Trade war that has been fought for nearly a decade. It is also a breakthrough for our relationship with the United Staes of America. I congradulate on Harpers victory. I dont get why people are whining that its bad the only way it can get bad is if prices drop which should not happan as wood is on demand in the US, so we will never have to worry about tarrifs. Also out of the money we lost the US is only going to keep a 1 billion, big whoop. It was costing is mor elegal wise to fight this than the money we actually lost anyways, we are geting billions back, but we only lost the one so it is no big loss in my oppinion. Also I would like to know who made the rumor of the 34% cap on soft wood trade? Probably those pesky Liberals trying to stir up trouble well Harper was away during question period.

Stronach Won't Run for Liberal Leadership
politika replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You said in one sentence that Graham sucked as Defense Minister (he cheaped out the military) and a couple of sentences later you say if he became leader you might vote for him?? That sure sounds to me like you are willing to vote for an incompetent individual as Prime Minister, and it seems to me that is all we have had in the last 20 years or so, incompetants, including Ly'in Brian Mulroney. I want to see what Harper will do before we send the corrupt Liberal Party back to the troth. So far I like Stephen's initiatives. It will be interesting to see the Liberal's try to run on a pledge to save the GST, when it was Chretien who pledged to scrap the GST during his first mandate. I also agree with Stephen with regards to giving each parent $1,200.00 for each child to assist paying for daycare. I certainly do not want government in the daycare business, and I do not believe that taxpayer's should be asked to pay for daycare, so some yuppy mom or dad can both work. If they want to have children, let them pay for their own daycare, or better yet, stay home and bring up their own children instead of letting strangers at the local daycare centre do it for them, which is what my wife and I did when our children were very young. The more government gets involved in people's lives, the more they are going to need in tax-revenue. Thank you very much, but I fell Canadian are over-taxed as it is. You probably didn't catch me say after I said he sucked as Defense Minister that "he is one helluve a speaker and a damn good politicion" He only was a bad minister of defense becuase he botched up big time in buying those leaky subs and canceling our order of choppers to replace the ageing Sea Kings. But that was one mistake, and he is an extremly good speaker though and would make a good PM (as long as he had a competant Defense Minister at his side) THat stil doesnt answer my question though, how come he cant run for Liberal leadership? -
I agree Harper was doing very well. I admired his combacks they were great! Anyways kep up the good work Prime Minister Harper!

Stronach Won't Run for Liberal Leadership
politika replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well it will be good for the Liberals now that Belinda's out. But that leaves very few left and like you said, all the candidates are very Conservative like. What about Bill Graham? Can he not run? He is interm leader right now and he sucked at his former job as defense minister (he cheaped out on our Air Force) But he is one helluv a speaker and a damn good politician. I am a Conservative supporter but if Bill Graham played his cards right if he ever did become leader of the Liberals he would surely win my support. -
Neat website. I have not seen it before. It is very informative.

Why do so many Canadians think our military is ...
politika replied to Hicksey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well on contrary to Leafless's belief, I believe our forces in Afganistan are doing a damn fine job and are well more equippe than people think. Well as for Canadians needing to know stuff, we have probably killed more Taliban than the government is leting the media report on. So far they say we killed the axeman and a few Taliban, but I think we have killed hundreds more and it is being covered up. This may sound rediculus but people don't want to think we are over their killing people right? -
Why do so many Canadians think our military is ...
politika replied to Hicksey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, the government's version of the facts, anyway. Is there any doubt that we're seeing a full-scale propaganda campaign designed to boost the public's opinion of the Afghan mission? No I have no doubt their is a propaganda campaign going. The nation saw it when Harper went to Afganistan and delivered an American style "whoo rah, we are going to win this war" type speech. But it is neccessary to get the Canadian people backing our forces. I am proud of Harper's speech and I am glad he cares for out military enough to go visit them, somthing Martin or Cretien would never have done. -
Thanks, I do have another question though, I noticed on the news Harper and Graham were draging him to his seat, somone told me that is what they do. Could you tell me the tradition and history behind it?

Why do so many Canadians think our military is ...
politika replied to Hicksey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Has it occurred to you that this version of muscular war-making is why Canadian's are uncertain about the Afghan mission. They like the image of the happy peacekeeper. They don't like the idea of a U.S. style war machine. I know Canadians are uncertain now, but if they actually new what was happaning and the government actually informed these people on what was actually really going on they would be more on easy with the force in Afganistan. People are only edgy because the government is not feeding them facts. I want to make it clear that I have no problem with our forces in Afganistan and what we are doing. -

Well, not to defend Goldstein (of whom I know little, but the fact that he's a Sun employee says plenty), he's not a reporter, but a columnist. In other words, he's paid to be biased. You seem to be labouring under the impression that "social workers with guns" would be considered a perjorative term by Canadians. On the contrary: I think that's what most Canadians want the military to be. I agree that that is what most Canadians want to think and with a little help from the media who hasn't really talked about are over 2000 troops fighting insurgents in Afganistan but is more focussing on the very few Canadian soldiers who actually arn't fighting but helping re-build the ravaged country. With a little research and straight facts though I am sure people would understand what is really going on in Afganistan and our military is turning more into a smaller version of the United States military. (not that I think that is bad, by the way, I think it is good.) -
Why do so many Canadians think our military is ...
politika replied to Hicksey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Uh...Goldstein is a he not a she. And secondly, I don't a see how making a statement about a common belief is indicative of bias. Do some homework. And yeah, that does seem to be the belief many Canadians have, based on the happy image of the Canadian peacekeeper. That image is far more palatable than the reality of Canada's armed forces as the water carrier for the empire du jour. My bad I meant he, I do not know how I got the "s" in their. Um well considering reporters are supposed to be neutral in matters and not taking sides, than yes I am afraid he is bias, reporters are supposed to give facts not their own oppinions or else it is bias and is meant to represent the real story not hi spoint of view. But again I do not think the majority of Canadians believe this, I still stand on my point of the ignorant few who do believe our military is basicly crap. Or they could very well be un informed as we are not really peace keeping in Afganistan but hunting down insurgents.
