Let's talk about what will likely happen if the democrats DON'T vote for the CR that will prevent a government shutdown. But first, we have to talk about what normally happens in a government shutdown. The government doesn't shutdown. The government keeps going. The military is still doing it's job. The FBI and CIA are still on the job. The Dept of Ed and everything else keep going. Some, non-essential workers are sent home....with pay. So they get a vacation. And, usually, the President makes a big show of it by closing the Washington monument, the road going by Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and anything that might government them some political sympathy. That is not what Trump will do. Trump will have a lot of room to maneuver. Meaning he can "shutdown" the government any way he likes. If Trump stays true to his tendencies, he won't pay the non-essential workers. The non-essential workers may not even have a job when the spending bill is signed. The entire episode will play right into Trump and DOGE's hand. Non-essential workers, departments, spending and the like will be gone. But here is the thing. If they do vote for the CR, the next big spending legislation will be a reconciliation bill and that will have all the conservative boxes checked. The Dims can either not vote for the bill and force thousands of non-essential workers out of the government while taking the blame or they can vote for the bill and facilitate the Republicans passing a reconciliation bill that is full blown MAGA.
