  1. Jeebus, dimwit, the fact that the Newsweek article didn't repeat every lurid detail does not make it factually inconsistent. Nor does a bit of clumsy prose. No one imagines they teleported through the doorway. I know you're cool with some casual sexual assault from your favorite orange dom, but the two juries so far haven't been rape enthusiasts and they've tagged him with about $90 million in damages for lying about what he did. So go pound sand and throw your fit because a random news article wasn't written the way you'd have liked. Tough titties. (But ask before you grab 'em.)
  2. I certainly can't speak for everyone, but I have no clue what you're on about with this gibberish. You linked to two factually consistent accounts of a rape--which, by the way, is also consistent with Trump's boastful "grab 'em by the p*ssy" monologue--and you think you're doing him favors? As usual, you're eager to defend the indefensible. If only you'd been there to help hold her down, perhaps she wouldn't have gotten away!πŸ™„
  3. MAGA cultists were willing to assault police, storm the Capitol--and one of them took a bullet for him. Hell, I think the Canadians here would donate an organ. I'm sure they'll line up for milking.
  4. Again, freedom of speech refers to government control of speech, not to social consequence of speech. What you're not cheering on isn't courage, it forthrightness or any positive attribute. It's just an a-hole with access to the megaphone of celebrity who is using his platform to pile abuse on the weak and marginalized in a world that already does plenty of that. No amount of rationalization will change that. You support it, for whatever reason. It's exactly like cheering on an outspoken racist. It's probably worth getting that checked out.
  5. You live in Canada and your "senses" tell you exactly nothing about the state of immigration along a 2000 mile border at least 2000 miles south of you. You can't see, hear, taste, touch or smell any of it. Your senses are full of Fox News bullshit, which you believe without question. And that's why you, specifically you, should never trust your feelings. You're bad at it and, as a consequence, easily manipulated. You, of all people, should rely heavily on data. Facts, not feelings.
  6. Basically, you're most impressed by sociopaths, who do and say whatever they like without regard for how it affects others. Other people don't matter, and if they can't take the abuse then they it's their problem for being too fragile, not the fault of the abusers. Nobody can say anything unacceptably wrong, as long as they believe it. Clearly neither a reasoned nor an emotional argument will convince you that words matter and that people should be socially accountable for their words. At least not in this forum. But I'd second that you should probably see a professional. If you're defending disordered behavior there's a good chance you're perpetrating it as well.
  7. You're being deliberately obtuse. The torment is the bullying. And having a celebrity--potentially someone they know and admire--use their platform to proclaim that their existence is fundamentally wrong, a failure, a mistake, is awful. And there are other individuals who will hear that celebrity and are influenced and who will repeat and amplify that hateful message. That's why celebrity comments are scrutinized. And yes, punching up is good. Standing up to bullies and oppressors is good.
  8. Honor my ass. "Trash talk" is what you say to rile another competitor. It's not what you say to a 13 year-old who is wondering whether they should end it all just to stop the torment. Saying horrible things about marginalized minorities is just punching down. It's bullying, plain and simple. Hurting someone weaker just because your can. Sounds like he learned well the lessons of his father.
  9. How could a president possibly govern without that option? Preposterous!
  10. Nobody "opened" the goddamn border. That is a fever swamp fantasy. Border enforcement today is conducted according to the same laws that have been in place for ages. The Biden administration is repatriating a higher percentage of migrants than under Trump, and a lower percentage are being released into the US. What has changed is the volume of people trying to gain entry. The language of "open border" is a specious political ploy to inflame the xenophobic fears of nativists. But if you want to think of it in those terms, border enforcement was more open under Trump. A migrant would have had a better chance of getting into the US under Trump.
  11. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Guess the big buffoon should have kept his mouth shut the first time. Any chance he'll learn the lesson this round? ETA: My absolute favorite part of this whole sordid affair is when Trump tried his disgusting "I don't know her and besides, she's not my type" defense and then when attorneys produced a photo of them together he misidentified Carroll as his ex-wife, Marla Maples. Carroll was SO not his type that the fool thought he had been married to her! 🀣
  12. I'm counting that as a hard confirmation that DeSantis will not be the running mate. Trump won't have anyone for whom any bridge is too far.
  13. I may be projecting a bit, but I don't think enthusiasm is very high for Trump or Biden. Most Americans (70+ % if I recall correctly) definitely don't want this rematch. They are both way too old. We don't want to watch a shambling cage match to win the gerentocracy. But I think there is a strong MAGA base who are blindly, unswervingly loyal to just one man, and the rest of the GOP has not figured out how to win without them or how to support another candidate without alienating the deplorables. I'm an independent, but I'd ditch Biden in a heartbeat if I had a viable alternative. I'd even give some serious thought to a Haley vote if it came down to it. The Democrats are in a bit of a pickle there. All I know is that we are in an existential crisis if Trump wins. He tried to end the Republic once and now that he knows how close he came I think he knows what he needs to do differently next time and I think he will try again. I think his ego would compel him to make that (dark) history if he could. He would love to be remembered forever instead of being an unfortunate footnote alongside the other 1-term presidents.
  14. No, the legality or illegality of an action doesn't play into your rationale at all. If hate speech were deemed illegal tomorrow you wouldn't suddenly shift your perspective. You wouldn't stop admiring someone who says what he wants regardless of who it hurts. So let's dispense with that specious deflection right off the top. Is mental health, health? Is there such a thing as verbal abuse? Is there such a thing as emotional abuse? Can words hurt? If you can agree to all of those (and that seems pretty basic) then you must acknowledge that verbal bullying is still harmful and cruel. And not behavior to be respected and admired. I'm sorry that guy had a shitty childhood. It's commendable to recover from those circumstances. But if you do recover and build yourself a platform, and then use it to rain down misery on other vulnerable people who are bullied, threatened and ostracized every day then you're just repeating the cycle. It's common that the abused become abusers and that the bullied become bullies, but it's not something to be respected or admired. And Dana White is a brand owner and manager. Performers are the product. Damn right that it's his job to police how people speak. For most brands, an employee going on a racist, misogynistic or homophobic rant in public is toxic and the brand will demand some retraction or simply end the association: it's bad for the brand. It happens in sports all the time. Leagues demand apologies and fine players for transgressions. If this kind of talk isn't bad for Dana White's brand, it says something pretty awful about the customers.
  15. taxme, meet taxme. You two should get acquainted. What is it with you MAGA creeps? Like Trump you all lie about the dumbest, most pointless and most obvious things that everyone can plainly see.
  16. Great, now you can FINALLY STOP saying he hasn't been charged. And as for what he did, who cares and why, again, go read the indictments so you can have some basic understanding of what you're talking about.
  17. Hey, that alcoholic father who apparently kicked in the faces of his child and the child's mother was just living his truth. I don't necessarily agree with cruelty and bullying, but he did what he felt, and I respect that. Stand up guy.πŸ™„ I think we have very different perspectives on the kind of people who merit respect, let alone admiration. I don't care if someone is the world's best actor, or singer, or director or face-puncher, if they go around wantonly hurting other people--physically or emotionally--I'm not a fan. Racists, misogynists, homophobes and other bigots are just hateful bullies. They should be shamed and ashamed. They should not be given a platform. They should pull their white hoods over their heads to hide their faces and operate in darkness, because they have no place in a society of decent people.
  18. I do not know that, and there's no data to support that notion. For all his noise, he didn't alter the trajectory of the economy at all--until the Pandemic, even he helped push it off a cliff.
  19. Trump's #1 requirement will be allegiance and obedience to Trump rather than to country and constitution. Mike Pence surprised him by having the backbone to thwart the coup attempt. He won't risk that again
  20. I don't know why you're bringing trans people into this, but the point remains the same. I can't imagine why you would respect someone for saying or doing cruel things. It makes zero sense. Would you respect someone who shouted racial slurs and denigration at you? Is that a stand up guy? Should we celebrate and cheer him on, or tell him it's not okay?
  21. Regardless of what you think about Biden, it's simply a fact that Trump made the deal and oversaw an almost complete withdrawal. 2500 troops were left, so the Taliban came to claim their territory back--starting before Trump left office, BTW. You want to apportion blame? 90/10? Have at it. But blaming Biden for something Trump left just slightly undone is partisan hackery
  22. Garrison Keillor use to do a very funny bit about Minnesotans fearing the influx of "frostbacks" from Canada.
  23. Historically, immigrants don't represent a drain on resources, but rather a boost in human resources. Obviously there are (evolving) levels of maximum ability to take advantage of human resources, and capacity constraints, but I think most economists agree we're not close to either limit. With oodles of space, appetite for industry and a falling birth rate, I suspect we'll be able to make good use of new arrivals.
  24. Secure against legal immigrants. The slogan for his plan to employ aging porn stars. With a straw. Sluuuurp.
