I'm confused with how your cite relates to the quoted text you used from my previous post where I said the purpose of immigration should be to make life better for Canadians, not foreigners. I didn't speak to Canadians' attitudes about immigration, though I do have some stats on that if you wish. As to helping the economy - immigration has been described as an unparalleled benefit to the economy for at least a generation, talked up originally by Mulroney, I believe, when he decided to almost triple immigration despite the economists telling him it would do no such thing. But one thing they did state was that the increase could help the economy a little, or hurt it, depending on the mix of immigrants. That would seem an indisputable statement. So we should get the best mix we can. Take the best, and leave the rest. Only a small minority of immigrants are ever tested even under our poorly tested 'points' system, and that needs to change. We have something many, many people want so we should be able to apply the standards that most benefit us as a country. The numbers? That would depend on how many we can accommodate and how many and what kind we need - what is best for us in other words.

By any logical assessment of the immigrants we get from different parts of the world, wanting them to be from Europe actually makes perfect sense. They would not only fit in better culturally, not only be far less of a security risk, but European immigrants earn a lot more than immigrants from anywhere else in the world according to Immigration Canada. Give me a good, logical reason why we SHOULDN'T prefer them as immigrants. The job of our government is to make life better for Canadians, not Nigerians. We can control immigration, including the illegal time, by simply having the proper laws in place.

Jordan Peterson announces he is moving to America.

Yeah! We don't want highly successful, internationally famous authors and intellectuals in this country! We have Trudeau! What more could we ask for!? Taxes are a helluva lot lower in Florida and the weather is a lot better. Why wouldn't he want to move there? -
Who says they all have to come from the third world? Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers in the UK get paid a lot less than ours. Let's raid there. Of course, first you need to set up some kind of national licensing system administered by the feds. Because the provincial professional licensing groups have zero interest in letting new doctors or nurses in and have and will continue to throw up every possible roadblock to keep them from working here. I've read stories about the plight of female doctors in India. They're in danger even in their own hospitals, and treated badly by their own colleagues and staff, not to mention by patients. I bet a lot of them would like to work over here in a much safer and more respectful atmosphere. And I read another story about the plight of women in South Korea. It's an extremely sexist society. Maybe we could attract some highly skilled South Korean women, including doctors and nurses here with the promise of an open, tolerant society. Why do we just throw open the doors and take whatever shows up?

You should be able to deport anyone who isn't a citizen for any damned reason you want to. And if the citizen was born elsewhere and they are found to be detrimental to this country by virtue of criminality or expressing hatred towards this country that citizenship should be revoked and they should be sent home.

And you're a virgin and will probably remain one.

I'm not going to get into an argument over your interesting interpretation of history, but merely say I disagree with that interpretation in its entirety. Again, an interesting take not supported by fact. The only reason Ukraine still exists is because Biden, much to the surprise of the Kremlin, rallied the West and poured arms into Ukraine. If it had been Trump, well, Trump would have done nothing. Ukraine would be a part of Russia by now, and the Russians would probably be moving on Georgia. Trump is not going to stand up to Russia on behalf of a bunch of foreigners who neither pay him nor can benefit him.

Immigration used to around 85k per year until Mulroney raised it to 225 because her was convinced by his immigration minister that immigrants, especially those from non-democratic backgrounds, would be grateful to his party for letting them in and would be lifelong party supporters. At the time of the report, though, he'd just raised it to 300k It's clearly a big part of it, along with our unrestrained flood of refugees, our massive increase in foreign workers for unskilled labour, and our massive increase in foreign student workers. It should also be noted that while China's emissions continue to grow the American emissions have gone down. More than ours, in fact, last time I heard.

They should have done this a month ago.

But those people have public healthcare and the US doesn't, so they didn't have all the untreated illnesses in their population. They also tend to be a lot less fat than Americans.
-
There was an election to win, man! Two thirds of emissions (and growing) come from the developing world. And they keep building coal plants. The West's emissions have been steadily declining but not nearly enough to make up for the heavy growth from the developing world.

I posted the rebuttal to this on another thread not that long ago. A report by Immigration Canada in 2017. They didn't get that bad after just a year of Trudeau. Things had already gotten bad after years and years of heavy immigration which Harper never slowed. It showed growing ethnic enclaves, declining economic success rate for immigrants, less of them bothering to learn English or French, difficulty finding housing - this was in 2017 - difficulty obtaining healthcare and growing religious tensions. This bloody report foresaw everything that has gone wrong based on what had already started to go wrong. We can and absolutely should blame Trudeau and his government of airheads for ignoring it, but they just took a bad situation and made it infinitely worse. It was already bad. “Declining outcomes of recent immigrants have shown that integration is not automatic,” says the report, which surveys emerging problems with immigration flows and the pressure it’s putting on Canadian sectors. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/douglas-todd-canada-struggling-to-absorb-immigrants-internal-report-says

Trudeau doesn't give a damn about climate change or fighting it. He's a poseur. It's all about him and his image. He wants US to lower emissions so he can flaunt his virtue and 'goodness'. If us lowering our emissions just moves them elsewhere, or even increases the amount that's fine with him as long as he looks good.

This idea Trump is a great peacemaker has always struck me as amusing. The guy is a notorious lifelong bully who cares about nothing but himself. He bullies smaller countries and cowers before larger ones. If he settles the Ukrainian war it will come from him forcing Ukraine to surrender virtually everything Russia wants with no real guarantee they won't attack again. There are a lot more fat and old people in America than in the Third World or Europe. Also a lot of people with untreated diseases -who were fat and old.
-
Let's compare ourselves to the West and not Pakistan or Nigeria, okay?
-
It might not be a criminal government but I'm pretty sure it's got a lot of criminals in it. Too much money has disappeared and the Liberals have told CRA not to investigate where all that covid money went, and put too much effort into stonewalling investigations and refusing to answer questions or provide legally required documents to the House.
-
Sliding rapidly back into the pack. Our climate change policies alone are robbing us of wealth while the developing world builds coal plants to supply cheap energy to the factories relocating from the West.

The crime rate in the US also dropped dramatically during this period. Some people ascribe this in part to the removal of lead from paints and gasoline. However, since 2015 crime rates in Canada have been rising faster than in the US. It's not race, it's culture. But the effect is highly... visible. https://www.tps.ca/organizational-chart/specialized-operations-command/detective-operations/investigative-services/homicide/most-wanted/ I don't care if the PM is 'likable'. I care if he's competent. And time will tell if Poilievre turns out to be competent or not. Time has already told us all we need to know about Trudeau and Singh.
-
Their crime rate is due to their inability to deal with the culture and values of their inner cities. And that's primarily the culture and values of black people. In some ways it's actually worse lately.
-
Get out of the cities full of immigrants and you'll find it. Wish you guys would give it up on the antivax stuff. There seems to be an awful lot of those indigenous people we supposedly genocided. They're especially prevalent in the statistics on homicide.

Sometimes we shouldn't be respecting people due to their beliefs. I don't respect Palestinian protesters for example. I don't respect any Muslim country. And our 'legendary' integration of newcomers only worked when those newcomers were Europeans. It hasn't worked for some time now, a time that predates Trudeau.

I read a long writeup by a Brit the other day who compared US and UK cultures. His take was that in America, you're celebrated if you succeed, you take chances, and if you fail, well, try again. In the UK, you resent successful people and think anyone who fails is a loser. In Canada, I would say we settle. We settle for mediocrity. We congratulate ourselves if we don't finish last. US individual wealth in the form of GDP per person has been going up, up, up while ours has been going down, down, down. The richest Canadian provinces is poorer than the poorest American state. American politicians are sometimes detestable people, brash, outspoken, rude and crude on both sides of the political spectrum. Ours are... bland, unaccomplished people of no substance who speak softly and smile a lot. We could stand to emulate the US in some ways. To be a moderating influence you must first HAVE influence. And Canada does not have influence any longer. It is considered an irrelevant country with a failing economy, virtually no military, and weak, narcissistic leaders whose every pronunciation on the world stage is designed to appeal to local ethnic voting blocks.

Jesus God, August. Have you seen the videos of the Eritreans fighting it out in various Canadian cities? The Sikhs battling the Hindus? The hordes of Palestinians hunting for Jews in the streets? The frenzied LGBT people who say ensuring forty-five-year-old fully intact men can shower and change with the girls if they claim to be female is a hill they're willing to die on? We don't get along anymore.
