  1. There have always been homeless people. The fact there are more can be somewhat attributed to an increase in populations but, before you start blaming immigrants for the homeless situation, how many of them are in tent city or on the streets of east Hastings. Seems to me that homelessness is a problem we have always had and is mostly long time Canadians.
  2. Sorry you don't like it. You have better facts? If not, well, blow harder LOL As an aside, the GTA is only a small part of Canada. Sometimes folks form there refuse to accept they are not in the centre LOL
  3. Bottom line is a very low vacancy rate for rental units so, regardless what the rent cost is, they are being rented. Also, in many cities, if landlords leave the units unrented or empty, municipalities are taxing them.
  4. Investors have always owned rentals. Thing is, being a landlord is an expensive and often, not an enjoyable venture. Being a landlord is a business and if it is not profitable, they sell out and rental units disappear. You are right in what you are saying. Hence, no rentals are being built and if they are, they rent as to cover costs. Yet, as expensive as it is, vacancy in Toronto is less than 2%, Vancouver less than 1% and other cities similar.
  5. Deluge??? 2 to 6% of homes in all of Canada are foreign owned (not just Chinese.) https://news.westernu.ca/2023/01/expert-insight-canadas-ban-on-foreign-homebuyers-is-unlikely-to-affect-housing-affordability/
  6. "The Canadian Housing Statistics Program shows that non-residents only own about two to six per cent of Canadian residential properties in 2020." https://news.westernu.ca/2023/01/expert-insight-canadas-ban-on-foreign-homebuyers-is-unlikely-to-affect-housing-affordability/ Lets not blame what is an imagined situation.
  7. Bottom line, as I have said all along is, no one will build homes for free. A developer/builder does not build to lose money. Also, fewer and fewer build rentals because the rental crowd cost them money to maintain the building and why bother.
  8. Better Tent City is paid for by you and me. It is a taxpayers gift. There are already many factory build home factories. The cost of the home is only a portion of the cost;. Land, development fees, roads, electrical, sewage, water infrastructure and so on. The topic is not resolution of homeless people, it is about home affordability and reduction in building. The "homeless" crowd will never own a home.
  9. What dodge?? The facts are there. It costs a lot of money to build a house and the buiders/developers are not charities and are there to make money. The topic was home affordability, it turned into talk about immigrants causing the problem. It is a fact that foreign investors were supposedly causing home price rise in BC years ago and Trudeau, after several years, jumped on the bandwagon to prevent foreign ownership for 2 years. The fact is that BC had an issue, the rest of the country did not feel the foreign ownership by Chinese much. You, blaming immigrants is baloney. As I have said, the majority or a great many of immigrants are refugees and cannot afford to buy homes. House prices go up because people are willing to pay for them and are offering more for the house. Bidding wars or even just paying asking price drives up the price.
  10. How is this news to you? This is years old, before the pandemic. BC has prevented or tempered foreign home buying for "investments" for years assuming it would prevent the rise in home prices. Well, they were wrong weren't they? This law, as of 1 Jan is just Trudeau trying to appease. And besides, the topic has turned to immigrants, not foreign investors.
  11. The biggest factor is no one is going to build something for free. Yes, interest rates are a factor for buyers but, they are a factor for builders as well. It costs them money to build and then it costs money to abide by the ridiculous regulations and requirements thrust upon them. All that added to the cost of a house and, remember they are in it for a profit. Oh and, the builders cannot get labourers and the ones they get are demanding higher wages which, surprisingly, add to the cost of a house. And lastly, buyers have to find 10% to put down on a house. that makes them have to decide between present chosen lifestyle and a house.... Blaming immigration may be a partial problem but not really because most, if not all, immigrants do not have the money to buy a house.
  12. Wow, just wow. You have been enveloped by your paranoia. Face it, a cashless society is here, and in the rest of the world too. Only old time thinkers are not on board. If you think your bank or credit card is how you can be tracked then you are seriously naive. Oh and, I don't agree with you so I must be a lefty? LOL OK then
  13. He is blocked but I can tell who you are referring to. Single minded ones. The most dangerous of people. ?
  14. I say, stay off the paranoia diet LOL. Have you been around today's young people (25 and younger for sure). They already carry no cash and have not for a long time, by their own choice. Long before the trucker debacle, long before emergency act enforcement and freezing a few activist accounts. A freedom loving society has chosen to use credit and debit cards vice cash. No conspiracy, no coercion, no communist plot, no dictator edicts. Oh and, what is China doing that seems to percolate your panic?
  15. The world does not owe you anything. No free ride. It is not the governments fault. You are not the centre of the universe.
  16. I think inflation is a small part of it. As they said "cost of building materials, a shortage of construction workers and higher interest rates " are the factors. The shortage of labour seems to be the biggest issue around my area. I see labourer jobs open paying $30+ per hour (tradesmen much higher) and yet, no takers. No workers, nothing being built or, it takes a very long time to build a house. No one want to work outside in the rain or snow anymore, let alone work with your hands. The trades are in real trouble. Blaming immigration is senseless. Most immigrants do not have a job, are refugees, let alone have the funds to buy a home.
  17. LOL. Great point. Thanks to the truckers debacle that laws and bylaws have been made and/or strengthened.... oh and how dare they enforce.
  18. Is it Spring Cleaning time? Who is next to go at Fox? Top Fox Hosts Are Telling Friends They Could Be the Next to Go https://ca.news.yahoo.com/top-fox-hosts-telling-friends-133000465.html
  19. As main stream as CNN, CBS,ABC,NBC and even Al Jazeera
  20. Fox will rebound, I am pretty sure of that. Again, I could not care less of Carlson as well as Hannity. They may land elsewhere but, they are pretty well gone from mainstream media.I am thinking that the extreme right wing has even been a bit tempered.
  21. Canada's record for fighting climate change is abysmal. We never hit a target, any target. We have successfully fed inflation with unnecessary taxes and then tried to make us feel better by giving us money back. The tree planting initiative was a phony show business thing anyway as lumber companies have been obligated to replant logged areas, for decades.
  22. Bitter....LOL Bottom line, and this was for Deluginal, Carlson is gone and Fox lost whether he accepts it or not, that is the end play As for Carlson and where he ends up and with who and his audience, I do not think I could care less now....same as I could not have cared less before. He has the money to just vegetate if he wants.
  23. Point still is, he got caught in lies. Fox saved or is saving face. He "apparently" did a lot of things.
  24. No, florescent short shorts
