Man, your imagination is sure overactive. Renting leads to living on the street?? LOL Remember, nowhere is it written or said or promised that you have the right to own a home. Yes, people are spending, on lifestyle versus trying to save for a down payment, that was the point of the comment. Sorry you were unable to comprehend that. Remember, nowhere is it written or said or promised that you have the right to own a home.

Look, the PM cannot tell anyone to do everything he wants, as you seem to think. You should know how things worked, you were in the military. Priorities, that is the key. You (or I) have no idea what is on the priority list for NCC or Heritage Canada. The NCC kicked out the leader of the opposition and the PM moved into Stornaway. Your arguing with me is pointless. 24 Sussex is closed and they have no idea (yet) what they are going to do. They have not decided what to do for the past decades and that is why it is what it is.

The point was to demonstrate that the decay of the building had been going on for decades. Blaming one PM, who by the way, would not even move his family in because the NCC discovered too much mould and vermin infestation. Also, the PM is not in control of the building, it belongs, in its entirety to the NCC. They make the decisions on repair and restoration and refurbishment. Don't be so naive, the PM cannot tell an agency to do what he wants done so he can live in a nicer place. Can you imagine the shitstorm from folk like you if he did LOL The fact of the matter is, the building was condemned by NCC. In the past, every time there needed to be repairs, it was a national outrage about how much it cost. The NCC has neglected it now to the point something must be done and it can take many years to get it done, no matter is in power. Maybe you can convince PP to start lobbying for repairs so he and his family can move in ?

Ontario considering restricting Gambling Advertising

Point is, they are banning them. I am quite sure the gambling sites are not going to stop advertising. The "Athlete or a "real" celebrity" will have to find other sponsorship deals -
Ontario considering restricting Gambling Advertising
ExFlyer replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
"Online gambling operators in Ontario could soon be banned from featuring athletes and celebrities in their commercials. So, they use actors from the Screen Actors Guild or ACTRA or hey, they can call me, I work for cheap. LOL -
Yup. if you want to get it up to code and be something to be proud of, yes, it will be a big job . There are over 13,000 historic places in Canada we already take care of. https://www.historicplaces.ca/en/home-accueil.aspx In the National Capital area alone, there are 1300 buildings. (website will not load) That does not include the Provincially designated ones. Point is, 24 Sussex is a drop in the bucket of the heritage building expense sheet.

Being official residence is only one aspect of historical buildings. We have lots of historical buildings and structures in Canada that were not official residences. Yes, it is and can be like the White House or 10 Downing. Not many 200 year old buildings meet today building codes yet we keep repairing and renovating them. Of all the historical designated buildings in Canada, with exception of Parliament itself, I would suggest this one has the most significance. https://www.historicplaces.ca/en/pages/standards-normes.aspx

I was responding to someone that made a comment on rent being higher than mortgages. I did rent yes. A landlord can sell bhis apartment or condo or house any time he wants. He has that right and can bring someone in to look at it. I am sure your rental/lase agreements states that. There are homeless all over the country, all over north America all over the world. For many different reasons. Your point?? Where did I promote sleeping in the streets??? Get a grip and take oyur emotions and feelings out of this rent vs own topic. All I have said, from the beginning, not everyone wants to be a homeowner and there is not right to own a house. Take a pill dude LOL

Lots of blame to go around. 15 years of Harper and things did not improve at the residence either. Trudeau just was the one that decided it was so bad he would not even move in. NCC seems to be, from what I read and hear here, an agency that does what it wants. 24 Sussex is not the only building in the capital that is is disrepair.

This is not a singular liberal problem. It has been a problem for the conservatives too. The building has been deteriorating for decades and patchwork repairs are all that has been done. Now, it sits vacant and has since Justin was elected. NCC is the failed agency that has let this very important heritage building decay. Look at the decades it is going to take to repair and upgrade the parliament buildings. It is long past the time to bring the Canadian Prime Ministers residence up to it's historical significance.

Rental costs are affected by many things. Yes, real estate prices and vacancies are some but so are expenses, utilities, taxes, labour and same as home ownership expenses etc etc. Oh and lets not forget the profit landlords expects. I already responded to someone that said "rent a $1,500/month single bedroom apartment instead of buying a $400K-$500K detached house?" and said, "Well, payments are very dependant on how much you have to put down on the house and what your mortgage is. A $600K mortgage will be well over $4K per month. $400K is over $2.5K per month. Not including any utilities and property taxes. "

What I want? I don't want anything. I have what I want and need. I am saying not everyone wants to be or will be homeowners. What makes economic sense to one person can be completely different in another person. "Blowing your money" is a very individual thing. Some want a house, others want fancy cars, designer clothes and exotic vacations. Millions of people, all over the world raise their families in rental accommodations so yes, it works just fine. 1/3 of Canadians do not own a home and that has been the rate for many decades. I have no argument, I am stating facts. To each their own for their own reasons as opposed to you where you cannot see past that everyone should own a house..

Education is a provincial jurisdiction. There are public (non denominational as opposed to protestant) and catholic. As far as I know, not all provinces fund catholic schools like public schools. What is interesting is that public schools in many municipalities are now offering prayer rooms for muslims. In Ontario, it is a constitutional thing. https://rdo-olr.org/the-constitutional-catholic-schools-issue-in-ontario-how-the-province-of-ontario-could-remove-its-obligations-to-fully-fund-catholic-schools-by-way-of-a-constitutional-amendment/ Also, in Ontario, you no longer need to be catholic or have a catholic parent to go to a catholic school

BC and Ontario have been making deals. Yup, the ongoing Indian welfare payments from the feds and provinces. Have politics ever been good??? I guess if you are a supporter it is all good LOL Yup, especially if one believes supposition, innuendo, rumour and opinion pieces. Personally, I wait for real action and then react.

The provinces are making land deals and payments to aboriginal groups, as are the feds. On top of all the federal and provincial payments being made regularly, which I call indigenous welfare. Double dipping. I mentioned BC's stand against Alberta oil pipelines. Inter provincial trade barriers come to mind as well. Bad politics? Well, that depends on how you are feeling that day. One day saying nothing is bad politics, another day saying nothing is smart politics. I am not suggesting anything. What I can say is politicians say all sorts of things, some trial balloons, some just to appease to an audience with no intent of doing anything except to get out of the meeting unharmed. LOL I do feel comfortable in saying that the liberals (or any sitting government) would not tear apart a 1930's constitutional resource right.
-
Not downplaying at all. The provinces are already giving and kowtowing to the aboriginals, as is the federal government. The aboriginals have figured this out, how to double dip LOL. The unfortunate thing is that provinces are always in disagreement with each other. Be it Quebec against all of Canada and the other provinces or BC against Alberta's pipelines etc. Canada and it's provinces are sort of becoming like the US vs the individual states. The power struggle between the feds and provinces is just growing. Like I said, Lametti is a lame duck, he would not say anything of value without permission from Telford, and he didn't say or announce anything. Saying we will look into it is a below zero response. As for Lilley, in my mind, he is like Peter Doocy of Fox news, they are the story more than the actual news they are reporting by their extremism..
