  1. Have you ever been in "the forest"? Do you have any idea of how big "the forest" is? Cut down the trees in "the forest"? "Clear cut the forest"? Yours is a not so funny joke. You also said "A mismanaged forest quickly becomes a tinderbox". Really? "The Forest" has been around for millions of years, long before man was around. Who managed it then? O)h yeah, Mother Nature managed it. How? Oh yeah, it allowed fire to go on unimpeded.
  2. Exactly what is "proper forestry and maintenance"?
  3. The whole story of the red roof house https://www.npr.org/2023/08/24/1195331310/red-roof-house-fires-lahaina-hawaii
  4. Meeting Canadas demands does not mean cutting immigration. And he did not say anything about the refugees we accept. Also, form the article "The problem with Kwan’s claim is that there is no evidence to support it in anything Poilievre or his immigration critic, Tom Kmiec, has said publicly" so, it is hearsay, not fact . Yeah, he said he will eliminate the carbon tax but, will the provinces agree with it? British Columbia, New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories and Quebec have their own carbon tax, not from the feds. But that is all. he said "“A Poilievre government will get rid of the red-tape and the gatekeepers,” "but what does that mean?? he said "The Conservatives are calling for lower payroll taxes, financial incentives to spur housing construction, and an end to deficit-spending and carbon tax hikes in the coming federal budget." but that was in context to the spring budget by the liberals, not what he would do. Is he threatening to de-fund the CBC because he thinks it is out to get him or a real de-funding of the CBC? “The overpaid CBC President has launched a full partisan campaign against me. Canadians cannot trust anything her CBC says about me, because it is motivated by her partisan campaign against Conservatives,” Sounds like sour grapes as opposed to a policy statement. I think the list that you make are talking points. All things change when they sit on the throne
  5. The "people on the ground"? The ones that have their homes burnt to the ground and their lives have been saved by being told to evacuate? As you now see? See what?? Are you somehow saying the federal government is making deals with natural disasters?? As you you have already been told, it is provincial and mostly municipal governments that tell people to evacuate on the advise of the on site emergency personnel. The only shystering going on is what you are trying to pass on LOL
  6. Exactly, and defending them and making excuses for them, as you did and are still doing, is fruitless and wrong. They tortured and murdered, and you are making excuses again. All soldiers were given the drug and only 2 became murderers. Poor excuse. No one owes you an explanation for anything but there is a report somewhere and it identifies and blames the soldiers for their actions. Also, it was only 2 soldiers, not an entire "elite formation of professional soldiers".
  7. We spoke and you disagreed with this a while ago. It is the market that drives the prices, and hence housing costs have gone up, again. You also said that high interest rates will be detrimental to house buying, well, that is not correct as the realtors will attest. High interest rates have not prevented home buying at all. I said, in a previous post, that I recently spent a few weeks in the Vancouver area. Lots of housing construction going on. The issue as I see it is that the houses being built are huge, 4000+ sq ft 5+ bedrooms withing 6 inches from the property line side to side and back to front. Maybe if we built "normal" sized homes (1500 sq ft) the price would not be so high?
  8. I get what you are saying. The thing is though, the law is a the law. The 2 individuals did wrong, very wrong and the constant defence and hero worship of them is equally as wrong, especially if claiming to be a christian.
  9. Canada has moral values, it was going to imprison torturers and murderers Matchee and Brown, not like you that defends and hero worships them. I think it is that you lacks moral values.
  10. You are aware, or should be that it is the municipalities that make these decisions for the saftey of the people in the area. I can assure you none of the decisions are "whimsical". The effect and cost of evacuation is not in the slightest a whimsical action. Yes there are emergency plans and in recent years with all the flooding and fires, they have been updated. You clearly live in your basement and have no idea of anything LOL You clearly have no idea about the north, or many areas of this country. They did make a fire break bu thigh winds still allowed the fire to jump them. There is only one main road to and from the north through the Northwest Territories. No nee for a 16 lane highway like downtown Toronto. In Kelowna, the high winds pushed the fires across roads and even the lake. Embers travel a long way. You have no idea how much planning and effort goes into emergency situations. I am surprised how clueless you are.
  11. I am paying pretty close attention and I have not heard PP say any of the things you allude. He has not said he will curb immigration, let alone lessen acceptance of refugees. He has not mentioned tax cuts. He has not said anything about defunding CBC. If he has, please point me in the direction and to where he said those things. Not going to get into a pissing contest, only would like to read about those "promises". It will help me make reasonable choices.
  12. No, I do not underestimate the senior bureaucrat advice, it is that they are not in the policy or plan development phase. They are told what the plan is and to make it work within existing regulations and laws. if it cannot, then that senior bureaucrat tells them they cannot or they have to change the laws or acts....and that happens all the time LOL As an aside, many of those senior bureaucrats are political appointees from the outgoing party or political favours.
  13. I recently spent several weeks in Vancouver area. Housing construction is going on everywhere. Thing is, houses are very expensive but, I figured out why. Almost all houses east of Vancouver proper is about 4000 or more sq feet. They are huge. they are within 6 inches of the lot lines front back and side to side. Many, if not most houses are 5+ bedrooms. I think, to drive down housing prices, someone should incentivize building smaller homes. I raised my family in a 1500 sq ft home just nicely. And, now that we are empty nesters, we are thinking of downsizing. PP should talk about that and how that may drive prices down and make housing affordable again. The government (if you are talking about public servants) do not and will never have a plan. They are subservient to the elected officials and only do what they are told to do by the elected feds, provincial or municipal. The "government", if you are talking about elected people, can not and will never dictate what is to be built as they will always favour the open market situation. If folks want to buy 5000 sq ft homes, that will be what is built. In Vancouver area, that is what is built and that is what sells. (regardless of down payment requirements and interest rates).
  14. Geez, the adults handled it for the past 3 elections LOL
  15. Right as in correct or right as in politics? All sources I can find say Epoch Times is far right politically. Seems the politically far right do not believe in climate change. Not going to debate for or against believing climate change.
  16. I added more in another post. Bottom line is that Epoch Times is a pro Trump far right wing publication. The article by lego stated "Last year, there were more than 200 fires from batteries from e-bikes, electric vehicles (EV), and other devices.". 200 fires out of how many devices? Tens of thousands or millions? That is why EV's should be banned? My point is that Epoch Times is far right anti climate change publication. (anti climate change as the far right seems to be). As last nights republican debate noted, all but one candidate says climate change is a hoax.
  17. Actually,, in the case of my family in Kelowna it was " the over-the-top reaction" to the trees burning in their back yard. In the case of Yellowknife, where i also have family, which is surrounded by fires except on the lake side, there is only one road in and out so " the over-the-top reaction" is a safety issue. Decisions have to be made for the safety of the citizens. If you think their safety is " the over-the-top reaction" then I think you hand your family have never faced any danger.
  18. Ha Ha Ha. Doesn't fit your narrative eh? LOL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Epoch_Times https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/epoch-times-media-giant-youve-never-heard-of-and-why-you-should-pay-attention/ https://www.facingsouth.org/2022/09/epoch-times-disinformation-mailed-to-voters https://www.nupoliticalunion.org/blog/xdiaj194ndlecm6rqt5q8yq38xvz35
  19. Yeah, the Epoch Times. The pro Trump Falun Gong religious far right wing rag? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/24/technology/epoch-times-influence-falun-gong.html
  20. No, I have not made a choice and yes, Justin and PP are now playing to the voters. Justin never changes colour but he (or his handlers) have a way of attracting voters with promises. I believe Ambrose was playing the party line as a faithful party player. I am truly waiting for PP to say stuff of substance.
  21. Michael, we can go on forever. You know my stance and I think you may be trying to convince yourself of yours. I think I will leave this now.
  22. 1. Bottom line is that it is internet. Are you implying that internet, something over the ether should be controlled by our government? That a company that uses the ether has to comply with rules made specifically against them? As I said, Canada can just ban them like China does. 2. 3. Well, why just social media? 4. I am not for over regulations. I am not pro nationalism just for demonstration of strength. If China wanted to buy our newspapers, what would we do about it?? I will tell you, nothing, we would do nothing. We let whomever buy whatever whenever in Canada. 5. The sites are open forums. the have few rules and it is up to the user (not government) to abide by them, just like repoltics. 6. No, our democracy is based on the British system. If comparing to the americans, do you think in any way that Americans would take it if the government fines internet sites for copying news clips?? I think not LOL 7. Yes, news papers and stations killed themselves, not Facebook.;
  23. PP has not answered anything. He is just spouting rhetoric and fluff. Justin is far far from "my man" LOL
  24. Nope, I am committed to those things that interest and affect me. My values are mine and I certainly have no obligation to share them with you As I said "It is suicide in a different way. Ya wanna do yourself in, go for it. "
  25. 1. It is not a tariff as internet usage is not trade. 2. The internet is not regulated and those that use it are not regulated yet, the government has chosen certain social media companies culpable for what users do. If you wish, our government can become like China and just cancelled cut off and bar anyone they don't like if they speak against them. How about that? 3. No, I do not believe in regulating internet, social media, nor media nor content nor ownership. Fact is, the government says people posting links are content providers and social media is responsible As a result, social media should pay for users posting that content. Maybe every poster that posts a link or clip or cut and paste should be fined for breaching a copyright law? I am not sure what your idea of "public discourse" is in this context. I think the ones whining and crying is the Canadian news media and, regardless of what, on this forum, think of them, the government decided (or was led to believe) social media is the reason they are dying. That is BS. The Canadian news media committed suicide, became monopolistic and people were tired of their partisanship and stopped reading the papers and watching the mainstream news. The news used to be pure who what when where and why and now, most pages are just op ed opinion pieces. Little news and lots of opinions.
